  1. There are guys in every system who you salivate over and watch falter in the development stages. Groome must prove he can get long season hitters out and he needs to prove he can locate. He is only #1 in your system right now because of reputation and due to the dearth of upper level talent. There was another former top pick lefty with all the talent in the world who dealt with injury issues and has fallen from grace. Look up Brady Aiken. The guy walked more than he struck out in 132 innings
  2. For a 22 yr old with 31 HR in a season that ended well enough in AA, he should be higher than #97 on the top 100 (BA).
  3. Johnson absolutely wins a spot on your 25 man. He is going to be your ERod and Price insurance. Heck, he and Wright might end up in your opening day rotation! If the sox do not address their rotation, then you will keep Wright and Johnson into the season or unless they completely suck and have to go.
  4. I don't think Otani is heading to Boston. Boston has less cap money than NY and there are a few teams with more money than NY in the running too. If he wanted to go young core and winning, he'd choose NY. If he wanted to go history, he'd go NY. If he wanted to follow in Tanaka and Matsui's footsteps, he'd go NY. If he is going pure cash, then he isn't coming to NY or Boston As for Alex Cobb, he pitched well this year, but there are some very concerning stats that showed up in 2017. His last completely healthy season was actually 2014. He missed 2015 due to TJS and had an assortment of ailments in 2016 that limited him to 5 big league starts. Cobb's fastball has the exact same velocity and his walk rate has dropped a touch, but the good stuff stops there. His K rate plummeted 1.64K/9IP. His GB % dropped from 56-47%. His HR/FB ratio rose significantly from 8.5% to 13%. So all in all, you have a guy who walks a little less guys than he did previously (2.54 down to 2.21BB/9IP) who is allowing a lot more contact. That contact has thus far been far more in the air than on the ground. The contact in the air has left the park at a 53% higher rate than it did before. Cobb in Petco would be great. Cobb in Boston would be awful.
  5. Your guys with options remaining are all returning except maybe Holt unless he signs a team friendly 1 year deal. You're going to keep all 4 of your bubble players without options as they will all be given one more chance in the system to win a 25 man roster spot. I could see Marrero supplanting Holt as the super sub to save some money. I could see Johnson making the team as your long man or 5th starter. Hembree stays out there as a usable pen guy. Swihart won't be cut unless a greater option comes along. He will be given every chance to show he is healthy enough and then he will either be shopped or win a spot.
  6. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/report-alex-cora-to-be-named-red-sox-manager-after-alcs/ar-AAtJRxV?OCID=ansmsnnews11 Most of you guys called this. He certainly knows the game
  7. The national pundits don't seem to like Chavis as much as his numbers should suggest. 31 bombs from a 22 yr old is impressive. I honestly think he is your actual top prospect, who really needs just to work on his patience at the plate and prove his power this season wasn't a fluke. I don't like Jay Groome to be totally honest with you. He's got all the tools, but I don't like his makeup, his injury history or his command. The rest of that list is pretty weak to be honest when you consider where this system was just a year or two ago
  8. There isn't anything to "fix" per se. He is 19 years old facing guys 3-4 years his senior. He has a pitch recognition issue that should improve with time. Either we will see more walks or less strikeouts, and I will take either
  9. Fireballers have a little more wiggle room when it comes to location, but if you don't locate to the best hitters in the world, no matter how hard you throw, you will be beaten. I also wouldn't put Tanaka entirely into the pusballing crowd yet. He was hitting 95 yesterday. CC has also resurface with some velocity, sitting 91 and reaching 93-94 at times. Both of those guys were far less effective when their fastballs sat in the high 80s.
  10. Helium alert in the AFL. Albert Abreu and Justus Sheffield are dominating the AFL, a classic hitters league. Sheffield's stuff is playing up per Law and others. Fastball topping out in the high 90s, slider looking plus and a change that has gotten refined. He is looking like a top of the rotation starter Abreu is showing high 90s heat as well with a power curve. His delivery has been a little erratic, but he is absolutely dominating hitters there. Cody Carroll has yet to allow a run in 3 appearances, striking out 6 in 4 innings (walked 3, though). Estevan Florial has shown his talents in limited action (7 for 18) but has also shown he needs to work on pitch recognition. He showed true 70 speed as well as an uncanny ability to crush fastballs.
  11. Groome or Mata aren't getting it done. Groome is a top 100 prospect for upside alone. He has yet to show he can pitch as a professional or stay healthy
  12. Either that or you aren't actually seeing the type of pitching NYY have. Our pitching is very, very good and the one guy who was really underachieving has proven himself an ace in the bigs before. He just decided to save it for the postseason this year. Great pitching will shut down great hitting most of the time. The interesting thing about NYY is that they have great starting pitching AND a great bullpen. You rarely see both
  13. We don't have to beat Verlander. That being said, a well rested Sevy vs Verlander who is coming off a 120+ pitch outing in game 2 might be a story line. Listen guys, I thought our team was going to miss the playoffs in ST. The fact that we are one win from the WS is mindboggling to me. I believe this team has the talent to win it all, I just couldn't have thought in my wildest dreams that these kids would come up and perform at All-Star levels so quickly. I didn't think Bird would come back from two major surgeries to be such a professional hitter in the playoffs. Gardner has been old man river showing experience and determination. Didi has just been nails. Frazier has seemed to be the glue that has helped keep this team together this postseason. The rotation has just been incredible. The pen ridiculous. I really do like this team and going forward, this team has a LOT of winning to do. This is just the beginning
  14. So I should expect Verlander to go 9IP and 1ER again? We usually hit Verlander
  15. Our run differential is +12 in the series and we lost twice. Our pitching has been absolutely magnificent. Verlander won’t be as good as he was last time out, so the Stros better bring their sticks and their relief arms if they plan to see game 7. What a series. This Yankees team is special. Shades of 96 all over again
  16. We are rolling now. Judge and Sanchez have awoken.
  17. mvp, most surgeries performed in the immediate aftermath of a season are known about before hand. DD just wasn't tipping his hand
  18. I doubt Keuchel is off his game. We need to adjust our approach and hope Judge gets another umpire who calls the actual strike zone. Giving Keuchel 2-3 more inches off the bottom of the zone is death to this Yankee lineup. After such a nice comeback, I wonder if Joe will game plan or let his guys hit? I would seriously consider giving the hitters the take sign until they are either in a 2 strike count, 2-0 or 3-1. Keuchel throws the most pitches out of the strike zone of any pitcher in baseball. Force him into the zone and we might get to him. If we don't force him into the zone enough, but run his pitch count up, we can feast on that pen
  19. The max bid is whatever is left in your INTL budget. Small market teams start with close to $6 mil. Big markets (here's looking at us) start at around $5 mil (I think $4.75 mil). You can trade for another sum (I think 75% above cap). I know NY has another $4-5 mil left in their budget as they have spent under $3 mil and obtained the max allotment in a series of deals this season.
  20. There are two players who you cannot count on this offseason, Price and ERod. Price looked good in the POs, but his inability to pitch more than a month or two without his elbow flaring is concerning. ERod with his surgery will be a ?? Out the gate. Even with Porcello sucking last year, he typically remains healthy and you’re going to need innings to be eaten. Sale Pom Porcello ?? ??
  21. They cut his patellar tendon and reattached it. It’s the largest tendon in the body and takes the longest to heal. Doing it in a controlled environment certainly decreases the recovery time, but this is the kind of issue that will rob him of strength initially. He’s in for a long recovery. Like i said, prepare for 2018 as if he doesn’t play, and if he returns well, gravy. As for Hanley, they debrided his shoulder. When they’re in there, they look for structural issues. He most likely had some fraying or some loose bodies in there, but the cuff and the labrum must have looked otherwise intact, otherwise they’d have repaired them. If all they did was a little cleanup, he’ll be ready for ST. If he in fact had a repair, then he’ll be 50/50 for ST
  22. This series has been excellent. Only one game was out of hand (Game 3). The rest have been nail biters to the very end. One very big thing happened yesterday. The umpire stopped calling low ball strikes on Judge. The media has finally come around to the fact that Judge is getting murdered on those pitches and then he has to expand the zone. When they actually call his strike zone, he can settle in and hit. Another thing I saw yesterday with both Judge and Sanchez was that they went center cut on two hits yesterday. They’ve been pulling the ball all series. Then Judge hits the restaurant to center and Sanchez wins the game with his double to RCF. They need to keep that approach vs Keuchel who will wear them out away and down. Our starting pitching has been excellent this series. Gray was done in by Girardi’s quick hook and by a mistake by Romine. In fact, when was the last time a team won a game late in the playoffs when they’ve allowed 2 or more unearned runs? I’m honestly not sure. Our pen was solid as well, even with Robertson hanging his curve to Gurriel
  23. We have to win 1 of the next 2. I think we can beat them in a game 7, but we have to beat Keuchel or Verlander
  24. No quit in these kids!!!
