  1. I concur. I wanted him gone in a fit of rage after Game 2 of the ALDS, but they rallied for him and it shows the team responded for their manager. Teams rarely respond like that.
  2. Joe Girardi is out as manager of the Yankees.
  3. The Yankees aren’t “cutting salary” as much as we have a spending cap. With all the expiring contracts, we actually have something like $50 mil to burn before we hit the cap. If Tanaka opts out, we’ve got $72 mil before hitting the cap. If we deal off Ells and save $8 mil per year, then we’ve got $80 mil before we hit the cap. And this is all in anticipation of signing Harper next offseason and some of the holes created can be filled internally with top prospects. We will be extremely competitive at the lower salary level.
  4. I said rookie breakout. Severino already had his swoon. After a helluva 2015 introduction to the bigs, he was awful in 2016. He figured it out in 2017. I expect him to continue a run of dominance as long as he stays healthy. I said rookie and the only rookie who really came in with a bang was Judge. Tanaka has a 3 year deal with $22.2 mil per year attached to it. He’s got a known elbow tear. He is coming off a season where he nearly matched Porcello’s HR total. If he opts out, we will get Darvish. Sonny Gray August-September actually was t that great. He’s proven to be better than that historically and I anticipate he returns to career norms
  5. They wouldn’t be happy per se, but they’d do it for the right return.
  6. Dee Gordon rebounded significantly in 2017 with a 3.3WAR season. He’s going to get a kings ransom in a trade
  7. You are entirely correct. DD has committed to this team. You have to go all the way. If I was DD, I would assume 2018 is my final year. I'd convince Henry to pour money into the team like he never has before. You now need a starter, a big bat and a second baseman. That $40 mil just got real small. I think there is a chance Chavis could break camp with the sox, but that'd be pushing it a bit. Either way, he has to spend, he has to deal. With Pedroia and ERod looking to miss significant time in 2018 and your DH coming off shoulder surgery, the AL East champs look to be behind the Yankees in the way too early rankings for the AL East. With what DD has committed, he cannot lose the offseason
  8. Yeah, you're not really on course here. What I meant was the Yankees team of August-October was very different than the one we had from April-July and we were better for the deals we made. Garcia was awful for us. We replaced Pineda. Eovaldi hasn't been on the team in over a year. Tanaka in all likelihood isn't opting out. We may replace CC with Otani. Our rotation right now without Tanaka is a good start at Severino-Gray-Montgomery. I agree we need to have either Tanaka or Darvish there. We are ready to bring up another rookie for the 5th slot if we don't get Otani. Also, yes, the kids could regress a bit, but the only rookie who broke out was Judge. Remember, Sanchez technically "regressed" in 2017 compared to his blistering debut in 2016 and we should have Bird for a whole season which lengthens our lineup significantly. Anyone who doesn't think the Yankees will be every bit as tough if not tougher in 2018 is fooling themselves
  9. Me too, but then again, nothing surprises me with this Yankees squad.
  10. You have become a bit spoiled, but the abrupt change in philosophy certainly can perplex fans and change expectations. If my team had the top overall farm system and then dealt it all away to win now, my expectation would be that they won and showed well in the postseason. The sox have won in the regular season, but appeared entirely unprepared for the playoffs. While back to back AL East titles is awesome, winning but a single game in the playoffs over 2 years is not. Plus, when the future is bright, it takes the sting off the losses. When you know you're facing a cliff, the urgency is there to win. Most sox fans can remember vividly the last place finishes and when you are staring a cliff in the face, know that you're going to get back to that point again. Relishing a title in that time makes it all worth it. Watching opportunities wasted makes it all a waste. Its just anxiety management Also, watching the Yankees rebuild in half a season and then get within a game of the world series tightens up that urgency
  11. You know, I am not entirely sold on Moncada. He only had a .750OPS in his debut this season and thus far in the major leagues, he has only hit .229 career. Plus, for all the hype, he has stolen only 3 bases in 62 games and has 86K's in that same time frame. His abysmal start to his career is clearly telling of his inability to play baseball at a high level. Also, Moncada didn't knock the cover off the ball in AAA like I would expect a top prospect to do, so I expect him to be a platoon bat..... Clearly I am trolling you, but when you tout a guy who had his struggles in Moncada as a potential 30-30 guy and yet piss on Clint Frazier (who is only 9 months older btw) who put up very similar offensive numbers in both AAA and the MLB, you look like a hypocrite or just a rosy red glassed ass kisser
  12. Hanley has a greater chance of contributing in 2018, clearly.
  13. They're still performing the surgery because its the last resort before telling an athlete that their career is over. If it works, then the players career continues. If it fails, their career is over
  14. He’s out until at least late May. Probably looking at the ASB
  15. Sale was on a rebuilding team
  16. The Yankees aren’t the old George Yankees where you knew what he was doing before he did it. These Yankees are a lot more stealth. The fact that they haven’t publicly interviewed anyone tells me one of two things. Either they know Joe will be back, or they already know who his replacement will be. I think Joe should be back. After game 2 in Cleveland, I wasn’t tooting the same horn. But his team came to his rescue and that shows that they have his back, which is huge.
  17. This is why we cannot stand pat on offense. We need one big bat to add as well. But you’re also missing the fact that we will (or should anyway) have Bird healthy for the whole season. That’s a big addition to a young offense. I want to add to him. I want us to get a 1b/DH that can spell Bird to the DH spot enough to keep him fresh. I’m aware of the potential return to earth of Judge. I don’t foresee him going down to a .200 hitter with no power, but the potential is there for him to have a low .200s season with a ton of power again. Hence why we need to lengthen the middle of our order. You add a guy like Santana or Otani to the DH spot and you’re improving the offense and lengthening it. How crazy was it that our 2017 team had quite possibly the worst production from the 1b and DH positions in baseball? Well, we’ve got 1b covered with Bird. DH’s are a dime a dozen this offseason. Watch out!
  18. The sox pitching staff is the stealth question of 2018. Everyone points to the offense, and rightly so. But the injuries and the ineffectiveness of the rotation going into 2018 bear watching. ERod shouldn't be in any of your mock rotations for 2018. If all goes well, he has a 6 month recovery time, which puts him on a mound for May. But this is the largest tendon in the body, and I anticipate a second half return for him at the earliest after he gets his arm ready. Price's elbow hasn't been addressed. He said publicly that he has a "tear" in there. Who knows what's torn and how badly it is torn, but until it is addressed or he puts up a full season of health, that spectre will be there. Pomeranz avoided the injury plague in 2017. Can he do it in 2018? Porcello has been bad, great, then meh for 3 seasons. He is more meh on his career. I wouldn't be worried about Sale
  19. If you're not improving, you're falling behind. The Yankees are going to be much better in 2018 than in 2017, especially since the team as is is better than the first 4 months of 2017.
  20. 93 yr old WWII vet. Alright, I will eat my words. Good man
  21. He came up as a catcher. He really should be a 1b. His UZR/150 wasn't as bad as I thought, but he clearly isn't going to be a long term OFer
  22. Sooooo, the DBacks just won 90+ games and came up against a buzzsaw in LA and now they’re going to deal their best player.
