  1. Pomeranz is a FA after 2018. While his value for 2018 will likely be a steal, you’re looking at major money or an exodus after 2018
  2. If I were dealing Dave, I’d offer Betts and Chavis for Stanton and Gordon
  3. Yeah, but Beni is cheap for another 2 years and he has the look of a high average hitter with power. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a .300/.370/.550 line out of him in the future with some speed mixed in. On your team, Beni has the most value IMO. His production, projection and proximity to FA all outweigh the value of Betts IMO. If you asked me, gun to the head, which sox player would I bet on being the best value over the next 5 seasons, it’s Beni all the way
  4. His contract isn’t that bad of a contract from a lux tax perspective. Yes, Stanton gets $29.5 mil for 10 years, but for lux tax, it’ll be $25 mil. Plus, Stanton’s contract ends when he’s 37 rather than early 40s like most insane 10 year contracts
  5. Groome has little to no value. Beni would get it done, but why would you do that? I’m thinking the Marlins will get a major prospect haul rather than a veteran haul.
  6. His subluxation issue should be mostly fixed although sometimes the surgery fails. The question for him is when or if he regains the strength. It’s a pretty major leg surgery and something that may not get back to being entirely normal until 2019
  7. Stanton to Boston is a pipe dream. I think the market for him will heat up and ultimately, a massive amount of prospects will come to Miami and they will get their salary relief. In the age of power, acquiring the top power hitter in baseball is a key method to put your team on the map.
  8. You aren't signing both. I know MLBTR had you guys signing Morrison, but I don't see that fit. I see Duda signed to platoon at DH and eat up some AB's at 1b. I see JD starting when he is healthy and flipping between 1B and DH as well. A duda investment increases your power, guarantees no option vesting for Hanley and keeps you out of trouble with the union.
  9. I am surprised Ben hasn't landed with a small market club. If I was a club heading into the decline phase with limited funds, I'd absolutely want him to run the FO. The problem with Ben is that he is a Billy Beane type. He'd rather deal off a big leaguer than trade prospects for a veteran. Beane has been great at that and has kept the shitstorm in Oakland relevant for the better part of 2 decades. The problem is not rushing things. Beane waits until his team is good before he deals off prospects for vets. Beane also isn't afraid to deal off very young big leaguers with lots of control if he thinks the return is good enough. Cherington was basically given a mandate to win now when he had a last place club. That is why DD is here. Dave can take a team full of prospects and flush with cash and win. It isn't as easy as it sounds. Look at SD from a couple years ago for that example. They spent like drunken sailors and basically set their franchise back in doing so without any measurable increase in performance. Ben is just not cut out for the big market, yet. He may end up being the GM of the Braves, which would be a great fit for him. If he does that for a few years, he might be ready for a big market club again
  10. Martinez can play 1b.
  11. You can get a good D 1b for cheap. You need power. Your pitching has enough question marks that you cannot expect a repeat performance, although it’s possible. DD has to mitigate pitching risk with more offense. Moustakas brings power but no OBP to speak of. Hosmer doesn’t have the power you need and his defense is suspect. He has a chance to be worse than Moreland in 2018-beyond. You need Martinez
  12. His second half was typical for him. His postseason performance was epic. I anticipate he can pick up any slack from Sevy dropping down a touch in performance. Gray was actually a disappointment and I expect him to return to his usual performance. JMont was really good and should get an innings bump next year. If Adams gets the 5 spot, he’ll be able to go up to 180IP next year after getting through 150IP in AAA this year.
  13. Tanaka opting in likely means goodbye to CC Severino Gray Tanaka Montgomery Adams Probably rolling with the above out of ST assuming good health for all
  14. Tanaka will not opt out
  15. I’d rather get rid of a guy a year too soon than hold them for a year too long. CC had resurgent stuff this year, hence he had a good year. Can his old, fat body maintain that uptick for another season or two? If he can, then yeah, sign him. But I don’t know if he can do that and stay on the field. This is the same guy who contemplated retirement in July when his knee flared again
  16. I really hope you sign him to a huge deal. He’s got disaster in Fenway written all over him
  17. MLBTR has us losing Tanaka, signing CC for 2 years $24 mil and signing Alex Avila for 2 yrs $18 mil? I get the Avila signing, but there’s no way we let Tanaka walk and don’t replace him. I’d say Tanaka and CC walk and we replace one rotation spot with a top starter
  18. Otis Nixon and it ain’t close
  19. Let the hot stove start. QO’s are due within 5 days of the end of the season. I don’t think the Yanks or the sox have any notable FA’s that are eligible for the QO (I think Tanaka has a clause saying he cannot get a QO if he opts out and CC isn’t getting one). Clearly Boston will exercise options on Sale and Kimbrel. The big free agents are out there and while I expect Boston to be in on a hitter, the question is, which one? Do the sox deal for the younger Stanton or do they shell out for the late bloomer in Martinez. Do the Yankees add anyone to the rotation if Tanaka stays put? If Tanaka opts out, do we try to re-sign him or do we go with Darvish or Arrieta? Do we deal for a pitcher who has yet to materialize on the trade radar? Who do we add to our young lineup? The questions are far more vast in Yankee land. The sox have their team mostly set and with some money and limited prospects, they’re looking at either buying a player or “trading” for a big contract like Stanton’s. For NYY, we can literally do anything. It’s intriguing but also much more difficult to predict. Enjoy everyone.
  20. 3 of our 4 pitchers are really lighting up the AFL. Cody Carroll still hasn’t allowed a run. He’s functioning as the club’s closer. He’s gone 9 scoreless innings with 2 hits, 4 walks and 14K Albert Abreu has been completely dominant in a hitters league. 4 starts, 19IP (starters don’t got more than 5IP or 80 pitches). 2.37ERA, 20K, 1.05WHIP Sheffield has been even better. 19IP 21K 0.79WHIP 2.37ERA and is showing high 90s heat and a hammer breaking ball. The arrow is pointing straight up for him
  21. Yankees prospects are absolutely dominating the AFL
  22. That’s funny, lol. I’m not sure. I had just seen Forrest Gump again. Maybe that did it?
  23. Prado hasn’t been healthy. They’re better off keeping him, rebuilding his value, and dealing him mid season. They’re gonna get a kings ransom for Gordon
  24. Kimmi, the problem with Ben's "5 year plan" was that he gambled on clearly the wrong horses when he was spending big money. He grew a tremendous minor league roster. But when your big signings, your "Uncle John, please dole out some money on these guys" moves are Hanley Ramirez out of position and Fat Panda for 5 years, you lose credibility. Ben can build, but he was paralyzed when it came to dealing away prospects and his FA signings were nothing to write home about. Part of building is being willing to deal. Every player has his price. Ben fell in love with his prospects and that was his downfall. He wouldn't move anyone, so he had to sign to fill his roster, and he always seemed to sign someone who turned into a pumpkin rapidly
  25. And their system is pretty screwed up. They have talent, but they just seem to be struck with s*** luck
