  1. What a fickle fanbase, lol. Dan wasn't a mystery when he was hired. It wasn't like he was hiding his true identity and was laughing maniacally after being hired. Henry knew he was hiring a guy who was going to turn the sox into a winner now and sell the future. You don't hire DD if you want a home grown team that will reap minor league fruit on a yearly basis. You get Dan when you want your farm system to be turned into high producing veterans right now. Dan turned a two time last place finishing team and turned them into 2 time AL East winners. You cannot blame Dan for that. In doing so, Dan created a cliff. The merits of his hiring will be in the world series titles. You don't hire a guy to decimate your farm and win NOW if you anticipate early October exits. He completed objective #1, which was turn the sox into a winner. He has yet to complete objective #2 and win the big one. BTW, the funniest thing here is the reversal of roles in the AL East. The sox became the mercenarial machine, the unlikable team of guys who seem to have no chemistry but out-talent teams they play against. And the Yankees became the upstart team of home grown stars who are very likable and make up for their lack of experience with a cohesive clubhouse chemistry. Weird how that table turned
  2. Beckett believed his own press clippings and admittedly got soft after getting his big contract.
  3. Another thing I wouldn't be surprised about. The sox may be a good landing place on a pillow contract for another right handed power hitter. Todd Frazier in Boston would hit 30HR. I thought the Yankees would offer him a pillow contract, but if he really wanted to rebuild his value, going to Boston would be the ticket. That moves Devers and his awful D to 1b
  4. Since coming back to Boston, Hanley has produced 0.6 WAR total and is coming off a -0.4 WAR season. He is now post shoulder surgery and is a year further beyond his prime. I definitely bring some DH competition in to camp. Hanley doesn’t get the DH job back without earning it
  5. One guy I haven’t thought of, but is clearly going to be in the sox crosshairs is Justin Upton. He put up a 5 WAR season and unlike JD, he plays solid defense and can run. He’s also healthier. While JD would likely be relegated to DH duties, Justin could unseat one of your OFers and allow you to use them for trade. I could see the sox nabbing Upton, moving Beni or Betts to CF and using Bradley to fill a rotation hole or the 2b hole
  6. Lets put it this way. Hanley Ramirez was worth negative WAR in 2017. He can only play DH. He turns 34. He has bilateral chronic shoulder conditions and is coming off shoulder surgery. Oh, and he is owed $22 mil in 2018 with a reachable vesting option for the same amount for 2019. If you deal him, it is to eat dead money or in concert with dealing off a top notch asset on your team. Also, Hanley doesn't get dealt to Miami no matter what, as they are an NL team. If you were to deal Hanley, you would have to move him in the AL and take back an equally bad contract. The sox aren't in a money game right now. They can afford to pay some dead money and hope he recoups his value a bit on the field for your 2018 team
  7. Volquez has zero value, I agree. Ziegler has some value as his stuff didn't take an appreciable nosedive. Gordon isn't getting paid a ton. I think you and others need to realize that a 2b with a 3+ WAR season is worth FAR more than the 3 years and $38 mil guaranteed of him through 2020. There will be a team to pay a top 100 prospect and maybe more for Gordon and eat the entire contract. Trying to consider him a salary dump is entirely misguided
  8. Jack, you’re logic is entirely sound. But this is how some people vote. This is why the award rarely goes to a player from a bad team. Last year was an exception
  9. It is for sure. It’s a popularity contest
  10. I’m just telling you how some voters have supported their votes
  11. The gold glove is meant for the best defensive player at a position. Most Valuable Player takes on a different meaning. The best player may not be the most valuable. Altuve has the highest WAR in the AL, but without him, do the Astros win the AL West (remember, this is a regular season award). They probably do. Aaron Judge has a decidedly lower WAR, but without him, do the Yankees win the 1st wild card? Probably not. I guarantee it will be closer than people think as Judge’s performance elevated NY into a playoff team whereas Altuve took a playoff caliber team and turned them into a 100 win team
  12. I think gold gloves should go to each position. Having 3 OF gold gloves effectively removes a corner outfielder from the mix. You should have one for LF, one for CF, and another for RF. Betts would be a perennial winner in RF
  13. Hanley Ramirez has literally no trade value. He isn’t being dealt to a team that is shedding payroll. Stop it
  14. Florial and Estrada are hitting the cover off the ball in the AFL. Holder is hitting well also and McKinney leads his team in RBI. Abreu and Sheffield are dominating on the mound and Carroll has allowed 2 hits in 7IP and functioning as the teams closer. The only Yankee AFL prospect who is getting lit up is Schwaab,
  15. If the Marlins want to shed payroll, why would they add?
  16. It would make sense to go with Tony Franklin. It also shows our direction, which will be a patient one. We have one more season before the absolutely epic 2018-2019 free agent class. We need to see which kids are ready and which ones aren’t. We also HAVE to make trades. We have 9 guys per scout.com who we need to protect from the Rule 5 with 4 more we’d like to protect and only 5 slots as of now. This is going to be a bonkers offseason for the Yankees and it’s fitting that it starts with the manager
  17. Dustin Pedroia is 20th in JAWS and 22nd in WAR all time at 2nd. He’s just above Jeff Kent and just behind Ian Kinsler all time. He’s clearly in the hall of very good. He’s a borderline HOFer. Complaining about his production as his body falls apart is ridiculous
  18. No, the Stros set a record last night for 7th consecutive win
  19. I keep hearing about the Yankee getting an analytical manager. Girardi was an analytical manager. He had his binder which had every split known to man and up until we got all those relievers. I’m anticipating that we will get a manager with Yankee minor league experience
  20. Cashman is also stealth. There’s a good chance that he already knows who will be managing, but isn’t ready to share it yet
  21. JD will get at least 5 years. I’d probably peg him as a 6-7 year deal as power is a premium nowadays and JD is the best on the market.
  22. Joe was reluctant to give the kids PT in 2016 until it was foisted on him. He is old school and would rather give PT to the veterans. This is a clear change in direction. They will hire someone with recent minor league experience. I’d say Jay Bell (the manager of the AFL Yankee team) is the front runner with Tony Franklin (AAA SWB manager) a close 2nd
  23. We might hire from within. ESPN reminded me of one fatal flaw. For a manager who preaches accountability to not take responsibility immediately after game 2, that was the deathknell
  24. Rusney is never seeing the light of day in Boston again. His $12 mil will count against the cap once he is added to the 40 man
