  1. You need a guy like Britton. The bridge hasn’t been good of late and in the playoffs, you don’t have the luxury to let your starter figure it out. If he goes to Houston, you’re in trouble. If he goes to NYY, you’re in trouble. You might need to get him to keep him from NYY
  2. As expected, the Yanks are in on Britton. They’re also in on Archer, which would be interesting IMO but probably a rough move as the Sox dominate him and he’s got issues with the long ball (Sonny Gray says hi). I think Britton and Happ would be the right move. Apparently Wilpon of the Mets is so caught up in the Yankees winning percentage and trying to stay relevant that a deal to NYY would likely not happen even if the Yanks were the best option. The dysfunction in that FO is at an all time high.
  3. Frazier’s concussion won’t complicate matters as he will end up being fine going forward. Loaisiga’s shoulder will as nobody will want to deal for him until they see him throw again and that won’t be til after the break. We’ve got a lot more than just them, though. Machado brought back more in quantity than I had expected. They only got one top 100 guy which was about what I’d anticipated. The Mets got almost nothing for Familia. The rest of the rentals out there will likely be had for nothing. With the deadline approaching, my expectations have become true. I expected almost radio silence out of NYY. I’ve heard more Sox rumors than Yanks rumors. This adds to Cashman’s unpredictable nature. My bet all along has been that we would get JA Happ and a reliever. I still think that’s the way they’ll go, but I’m pulling that out of my ass just as much an anyone. Cash could make a roster changing shakeup as well.
  4. Fiers is the kind of guy you need. He’s not flashy and will probably get his s*** lit against HOU or NYY, but you need a guy who can take the ball every 5 and not be a total burn on the pen. He fits the bill
  5. Pomeranz didn’t get by on smoke and mirrors. He had a fastball that hitters said played a lot harder than the 91.3 mph he averaged. He’d work that pitch up while using that devastating curveball down. The other thing fangraphs doesn’t really take into account is the varying speeds on his fastball. Last year, I saw him throw fastballs in the same game of 89 and 95. He’d vary his speeds as well and threw just enough cutters to make the pitch a viable concern for hitters. Two things have killed him this year, one fixable and one likely not. This year, the top end velocity is gone. That may not be fixable. The other is he lost command of his curve. He can regain that. Without his ability to go with heat up, he cannot reset the batters eyes to make the curve that much more devastating.
  6. Sox are in on Mike Fiers, who has shut out the Sox through 6 as of right now. The guy has been pretty good this year
  7. He hasn’t pitched in 8 days. He’s also prone to having blips like this. Boone almost allowed it to go on for too long but Shreve saved his ass
  8. Cash has to take a pounding too. We have a top prospect totally ready in an area of need who is being held back by his 40 man status. If Sheff came on and dominated, we wouldn’t need a starter
  9. German sent down. We will probably see Cessa. Sheff hasn’t pitched for SWB in 11 days although I know he did pitch in the futures game. I wonder if Cash just does what’s best for the team and bring up Sheff or if he keeps dicking around with other guys
  10. The Mets can’t hit. If we’re gonna burn German and Gray, this is when to do it. I think Boone knows that each yanks-sox game is worth two in the standings. Also, German’s start vs the Sox is right after the deadline. There’s a chance German is donning a new uniform at that time
  11. I just mapped it out. That’s exactly what he’s doing. By starting German first, the Sox will miss Gray in their 4 game set. I think Boone knows he has to have Gray miss the sox
  12. I’m perplexed by the alignment out of the break. I am wondering if Boone is looking ahead to the Sox series and is lining guys up for it. Otherwise, why start German first game out of the break. Sevy threw what amounts to a bullpen at the ASB which you do on day 3 or 4 of your cycle (game day is day 1, long toss day 2, etc). If they wanted to give him a little rest, coming back in the Mets series makes more sense. Instead Boone throws our worst pitcher in game one out of the break. Surprising to say the least. Maybe he’s banking on the Mets anemic offense to fold against German’s stuff.
  13. They dealt a guy they don’t have space for to get an elite reliever and a setup guy with serious promise. When their staff is healthy, they roll out Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco and Clevenger, which is a very strong top 4. Their lineup has two MVP candidates in it. Their pen has killed them. With Miller returning and Hand and Cimber coming on, they’re gonna be tough to beat
  14. Also, Britton has shown his old velocity in his last few appearances as well as a ridiculous GB rate. He’s himself again after starting off with diminished velo and command. He has a chance to be a difference maker wherever he goes
  15. They got one big prospect and four guys with probable big league futures. They did better than I thought. Thing is, Machado is a pure rental for them. Seager comes back next yr and Turner stays at the hot corner. Machado will hit the market with no draft pick compensation
  16. It isn't unprecedented, but it is stupid. Hader wasn't a big leaguer when he said those stupid things. He wasn't a professional baseball player at all. Having a "punishment" 7 years later for something he did as a teen is stupid. I think this should be one of those deals where the man is judged on his character now than on how dumb he was at 18. If all of us are judged by what we did at 18, then none of us would get a chance in this world. We were all raging morons at that age
  17. A ton of teams stayed under the cap this year in order to spend. Kimbrel is the best closer in baseball. Assuming you're getting a deal because of lack of suitors is a fools errand. That's like assuming Bryce Harper won't get paid because the Yanks and Dodgers are pretty well set in the OF
  18. He’s had a recurrence of cancer. He has officially retired.
  19. He did retire. And he’s probably gonna die soon.
  20. Andujar’s issue isn’t range IMO. It isn’t arm either. He’s got the tools to be at least an average defender. He’s just far too capable of making a boneheaded play. A ball he should charge, he lays back on. A ball to his left he should lay out for, he stays up. A routine ball he throws in the dirt or up. He’s someone I can legitimately say has the tools to be a good defender, he’s just not executing enough to be even an average defensive 3b right now. In terms of the offense approach, Robby Cano is a good comp. Guy capable of hitting for a high average and some power who develops some patience and a lot more power. I’ll say it again, Andujar has the swing to be a .300 hitter with 25 HR. He has the tools to be a positive UZR 3b.
  21. The game has changed. Every contending team has flame throwers who can locate at the end of their pen. Kimbrel is the best of them. He is so good that most teams know they need to make their hay in the first 8 innings and will pull out the stops to do so. Losing him will significantly weaker your club. So I say go for it. See if you can replace him internally. And when you turn into the 2018 Guardians pen, I will laugh and laugh
  22. And when you experiment you run the risk of injury, which would be catastrophic to Boston
  23. It’s not like Betts is faking it out there, he’s quite possibly the best defensive OFer in baseball. You don’t move him
  24. They love it in Boston. They will also love it in Kalamazoo if they got top dollar there.
  25. Herrera will be expensive. Kimbrel will likely cost closer to the $20 mil AAV mark where I expect Herrera in the $15 mil per annum mark. He is only 28, so he is gonna get a long term deal
