  1. I think you can if you know, as is, he should be a good reliever. Houck came out a guy who could have been tossed in a minor league closing role and be fine. Put him in the stretch, limit him to two pitches and let him throw. They are trying to stretch him out, tinker with his full windup and add in a 3rd pitch. Some guys just cannot do that
  2. Margot has had the qualifier of being injured. JBJ hasn't been injured as far as we know
  3. That's what I am thinking. I doubt the Mets deal DeGrom or Thor in season. They're better off dealing in the off-season where there is more time to maneuver. Happ would be a good pickup and shouldn't cost top prospects Another rumor I have read about was the Yanks getting Moustakas to play 1b. Not sure he's that big of an improvement as Bird is only about 60 points below him in OPS right now and that's at his nadir.
  4. That loser Frazier went 3 for 4 with 2 bombs today driving his OPS up to .979 in AAA. He sucks
  5. Florial went 2 for 2 today on rehab assignment in the GCL with a SB
  6. Dombrowski finished the plan. The 5 year plan never would have worked with Cherington because he fell in love with his prospects. Getting Kimbrel and Price for 2016 put you guys into the ALE drivers seat. Getting Sale last year kept you there. Getting JDM this offseason has put you as co-favorites to win the title with the Yanks. DD takes a lot of gruff for the way he won, but to this point, you cannot argue results
  7. It was a worthwhile pick, IMO, because you have a solid floor and a shot in the dark upside he could stay in the rotation. Theyre tinkering, which is fine. Eventually the sox will need to make the expected move and push him to the pen
  8. Severino has learned to master his fastball location. He's almost taken the Leo Mazzone rout of down and away repeatedly with the fastball. Once he is ahead, his slider is deadly and his change has really come around. But everything plays off his 98mph fastball. Pom doesn't have a 98 mph fastball
  9. Also, right now the Mariners have a 7 game lead on Oakland for the WC. I don't believe Oakland stays in the playoff picture this year. I also don't think the M's hang with the Astros by the end. My bet is the M's win the AL WC2 and will line up Paxton for that game
  10. The counter argument is that the tie breaker is not an elimination game. The Wild Card game is. Do you blow through your ace in the tiebreaker and risk having your 2 or 3 pitch in the WC game with your season on the line?
  11. Totally forgot about it honestly. Could be a 10 day stint with a strained hip, could be more. MRI today should tell us.
  12. He spoke after the 2013 title. I like the monicker though. Data? Lol
  13. I’m assuming we have the option to set our rotation. Clearly that’s not the easiest thing to do, but assuming we could, who would you start?
  14. Cmon now, you don’t remember the comments from him about not paying for past performance when referencing the Yankees? Remember how he said you don’t build a rotation on the free agent market? Cmon now
  15. Let’s say the Sox and Yanks tie atop the division and need to play a tie breaker before the wild card play in game. The loser would head to the wild card game. The winner would take their #1 or #2 seed in the playoffs. Assuming your players are healthy, do you start your ace vs the Yankees or do you try to win with Porcello and save Sale for an elimination game? For the Yanks, would we save Sevy for the elimination game and start CC or Tanaka? If I managed the Yanks, I’d probably go CC vs the Sox as he has the track record and it saves Sevy for the play in game which is a true elimination game. If I managed the Sox, that’s a tougher question. Sale is the unquestioned ace yet do you want to burn him in what would not be an elimination game? What are the thoughts of the group here?
  16. Sox were scouting Nathan Eovaldi this past week. My guess is the Sox are looking for a better replacement for Wright than Johnson. I applaud the Sox and their aggressiveness before the deadline. They understand how important home field will be
  17. Won three straight series after the dump in the Trop. Tanaka had a clean rehab outing and is now set to start the first half of the DHer vs the O’s on Monday. Loaisiga is likely to start the second game but until we get a replacement, we’re staring at a rotation with German in it.
  18. There were “bargains” outside of Moose and every one of them has underperformed. Lance Lynn, Neil Walker, and Logan Morrison have been terrible.
  19. How is slugging flawed? It’s total bases divided by at bats. It’s a good measure of power.
  20. DD has said he will go over, but I’ll believe that when I see it. Henry was the one laughing at the Yankees in 2013 for their roster building approach and he’s the one following the same path of unsustainability. The IFA penalties and draft pick penalties associated with going over are very problematic. Dropping 10 spots from the back of the draft drops out into the competitive balance selections. That’s even worse than comp picks and drops the bonus allotment by $600K. With slot money being the new game in the draft, losing that amount means less talent in slot 1 or far less talent should you take and underslot at 1 and redistribute to others in the draft.
  21. This doesn’t make all that much sense. Cash has been willing to part with prospects all along. It’s about parting with the right ones. His approach has us staring at a prolonged period of sustained success and a rebuilt core from within. I can’t blame him for not wanting to burn that for rentals. DeGrom is a different case as he’s available for more than one year, but we don’t know what the Mets price is. Andujar and Torres are absolutely off limits. They carried us for the last two months and both are having all star caliber seasons. They’re likely to be 1 and 2 in ROY voting as long as Torres isn’t out for long with his hip issue. The other issue is proximity. When you’ve got holes opening and guys ready to fill them, you don’t want to deal off the cheap replacements for rentals or shorter term fixes that are going to be expensive a la DeGrom. We’ve got at least one hole opening in the rotation next year. If the Yanks end up going deep into October, CC has already said he’d hang it up. If he keeps pitching like this, I hope not, but that’s a distinct possibility. I’d also say a deal to rid ourselves of Gray might occur as well. That makes a guy like Sheffield, who is clearly ready for prime time, very valuable. Same can be said for Frazier as Gardy isn’t playing at a level to guarantee his option and Frazier is killing the ball in AAA and even in his cup of coffee this year in the bigs. Our two biggest trade chips are likely to be our two best options to start next year. Granted, you pair Degrom with Sevy and Tanaka and the front of your rotation looks pretty sweet. That’s the trade off. In the end, I think the Mets hold until the offseason where the hot stove will allow for a more well thought out approach. I think we can come to an agreement then when all the cards are on the table. Currently, I can’t blame the Mets for shooting for the moon, but they’re not getting Torres or Andujar. The Mets are the team needing a rebuild and they’re staring at a long one. The Yanks are clearly fine holding pat if need be
  22. We lost 5 last season and all returned. I do agree that we need to deal away some guys. I just don’t know if we should deal from the top and get a marquee name or from the bottom and system build with more IFA money and a starter like Happ. We literally need nothing else beyond a single starter
  23. They get three playoff runs with him if they get him now
  24. The Mets aren’t going to trade either IMO. I think they’re hoping for a Chapman trade, which they should at this point. This isn’t Machado or Happ who are headed for FA at season’s end. Thor and DeGrom have two more years of control. They should ask for the world. I think with the fact that Loaisiga needs to build innings slowly, ie, he isn’t likely to pitch in Sept or beyond, and German’s inability to get through rough innings, I’m resigned to the idea of dealing for a guy like Happ. Clearly the non 40 man status of Sheff, the injuries to Acevedo and the poor start of Adams are keeping those guys down in the minors. All things being equal and Sheff would have been in the bigs since Montgomery got hurt. I wonder if a guy like German would end up being the main piece in a Happ deal. He’s got ace level stuff with great peripherals who hasn’t been able to limit the big inning. He’s best suited finding himself rather than learning in a pennant race. It would suck to see German 6 times a year if he ends up reaching his potential, but I think he’s our most likely piece to be moved
  25. I have a feeling, unfortunately
