It’s Machado who needs to respond. Hal only needs to say he spoke with him man to man and feels the issue is resolved. Machado has to actually put those concerns to bed with his performance and attitude

The Yanks will get Machado. He wants to go to NY. We just need to be in the ballpark financially. My guess is the other clubs (CWS and PHI) are willing to go the 10 year route. My bet is the Yanks go 7 yr $198 mil ($28 mil AAV) with $105 mil coming over the first three seasons and an opt out after the third. This gives him the highest AAV while allowing him to return to the market at 29 yrs old. It also drops the AAV due to the dummy back end of the contract thereby helping the Yanks on the payroll side of things. We will then go out and re-sign KRob. Thankfully, while the market for fringe middle relievers has risen, the market for setup men capable of closing has not (see Familia). My guess is we can get KRob by offering him a lower AAV than what he was earning ($14 mil) by giving him a vesting option for a third season. I know a lot of rumors have the Yanks in on Britton, but I dont believe them. He’s younger and this is his first foray into FA. He’s gonna go for the biggest deal and it won’t be as a third options setup man in the Bronx

We replaced Lynn with Paxton. That’s quite a significant upgrade. Didi is on the bench for the first two months, most likely and Machado is still more likely to sign with us. Our pen lost KRob and 2 months worth of Britton, yet we also have high end prospects capable of doing well in a pen for us and yet we are still linked to Ottavino and Britton. Dude, get your head out of the sand. The Yanks are going for it this year.

The Astros lost Keuchel, Morton and McCullers for 2019. The only returning starting pitchers are Verlander and Cole. Yes, they have McHugh and Peacock capable of starting and Whitley and James in the wings, but they are losing 3 starters with big production and replacing them with guys less likely to succeed. The Guardians dealt off Encarnacion and Gomez while bringing back Santana, which is a definite downgrade offensively. Add to that the losses of Brantley, Miller and Allen and I doubt the Guardians are gonna scare the sox, even though they still likely are the best team in the central. The only team that hasn't lost much is the Yanks. Yes, Britton and KRob are still on the market, but the pen has been a significant strength and still is with the loss of those guys. We added Paxton which will make our team far more lethal. If we sign one pen arm and then nab Machado, we will be significantly improved. The sox are still the champs, but their entire loss of a pen is going to be tough to replace. Right now, I have a hard time thinking the sox can repeat with the sieve in the back end, but I doubt the sox don't lock down at least the closer spot

jsinger has always had the Kool Aid flowing when it comes to sox prospects. I've seen Poyner and he's a lefty nothing baller who's first taste of the bigs was marred by the HR rate. The other guys might actually have a future in Boston, but Poyner really sounds like a mopup man

Big rumor today is the Yankees are still willing to deal Andujar. We have filled our rotation. We are likely the top dog for Machado. I get the idea of using Andujar for some pitching, but we already have the pitching. This makes me think the Yanks are unsure if Andujar can get better defensively

There is no real plan B. As constituted, the Yankee lineup needs to real additions. With the injury to Didi, it does open things up a bit for a middle infield addition. But when Didi returns, we would need someone with the versatility to cover elsewhere. There is a reason Marwin Gonzalez hasn't signed yet. He was lights out in the second half of the season and he can play anywhere but C and P. He also is a switch hitter, which is very important for this RH heavy lineup

Sale likely has a shoulder injury. whomever gets over their issue first will have the advantage. Push Price is more of a sure thing than Paxton, although Paxton has more upside due to the difference in stuff. Push Tanaka and Porcello are a push. Happ is far more durable than Eovaldi and Happ outpitched him last year. Advantage Happ CC has started 4 more games than ERod the last 2 seasons even though he’s on an arthritic knee. ERod has a much higher ceiling. Advantage ERod. The Yanks and Sox rotations are very evenly matched. If Sale is healthy and throws 200IP, then the Sox have an advantage. Then you look at Paxton, and if he can throw 30 times a season, then he’s likely to far exceed what Price gives you. If playoff Eovaldi is what you see from him, then you’ve got an ace, although he’s never proved that and he’s the biggest injury risk on here. Can Tanaka show his long stretches of dominance can stretch for a full season? Can porcello regain his CY season location. Can ERod stay healthy? Is JA Happ as good as he showed in NY? Can CC fight off Father Time for one more year? Yankees 2018 WAR 16.2 Sox 2018 WAR 19.1 That advantage is almost entirely made up of Chris Sale’s ridiculous 150ish inning season. If he’s entirely healthy, then you’ve got an advantage. If he’s not, then you don’t.

Well, it looks like the rotation is set. We have a 1-5. We have a 6-8 (German, Cessa, Loaisiga) that all have big league experience and one of them is a top 100 prospect. We have a guy coming back at mid season who posted a 3WAR rookie season and is coming off a surgery most players rebound from and sometimes come back throwing harder. I doubt we make any further additions beside a few washed up former starters or AAAA guys. We do still need to work on the MIF issue. With Didi set to be out at least into May, we are likely looking at a good utility player capable of playing 2b, SS and 1B even if we nab Machado. My guess is we will be in on Marwin and Josh Harrison. I know there’s been chatter about Daniel Murphy and the Yanks, but Murphy had microfracture surgery in his knee and when he came back, he had the lateral mobility of a first basemen. We don’t need another guy who can only play 1b or play a horrid middle infield. The next few weeks will be interesting. I doubt the trade market helps us much as there aren’t many SS or 2Bs out there that are upgrades via trade since Segura is now in Philly.

Putnam is an interesting guy. Throws pus, but generates a lot of swings and misses, generates less hard contact than the norm and gets a fair amount of ground balls. He hasn't really been healthy since 2015 and is due to miss at least half the season recovering from TJS. My guess is this is a deal for 2020.

Tipping pitches definitely makes sense. I wonder if he was doing the same at the end of 2017. His stuff hasn’t suffered.
