  1. I am really perplexed by Bumgarner's market. Take a look at Bumgarner's history. During his 6 year run as a perceived ace, his best WAR season was 4.9. His worst was 2.7. He crossed 200 innings in every season. Where he made his bones was the postseason where he was super special every time out and essentially stepped up when they needed him. So good to great regular season, impeccable post season warrior. He goes and busts up his pitching shoulder on an ATV and missed parts of 2017 and 2018. He comes back in 2019, crosses 200 innings, puts up a WAR of 3.2 and posts his highest velocity since 2015. He also is only 30 yrs old. Yet, MadBum, with all his accolades, gets paid like a steady Eddy guy and not an ace. I am perplexed by this one. I would have thought the market would have supported MadBum clearing well over $100 mil. Heck, of the $85 mil, $25 mil is deferred. I am surprised Cashman didn't get in on this. 5-$85 mil is really pretty reasonable and it would have pushed Cash to deal Paxton for some talent. Also, this deal sets up the DBacks to move him. Yes, they'll lose a draft pick for signing him, but the fact that the money is deferred really sticks a team that gets him later. Brilliant move by the DBacks. Pretty surprising move from a market perspective. I think this drops down the values of the older lefties like Price and Happ who are on the trade market.
  2. I’ve told you all already, Price isn’t gonna move until the Bumgarner and Ryu sweeps are over
  3. Minimal return for two years of an ace.
  4. Mostly because Eovaldi is the freakish talent. He’s the guy you’d pay to see pop that gun at 100. And he did it in the playoffs. Circumstance certainly plays up values. But he turned out to be a dud. I think Cash is playing this offseason perfectly thus far. He’s been aggressive bringing guys back and making the team better and being patient dealing off parts
  5. I agree, although a team will take the chance on Happ with the pitching prices where they are. It’s a one year deal that could be two if the team makes it happen. For one year of a guy coming off a poor 2019 but was a durable 3 WAR pitcher for the prior four seasons, it’s not exorbitant. I also think Happ will benefit in a move back to the NL. I said before that I thought we could deal him for IFA money and we’d need to include $7 mil. With the prices for pitching going up, dealing Happ on his own, we’d probably now have to kick in $5 mil. Here’s the deal. Cole Hamels just got a 1 yr $18 mil deal with Atlanta. Cole’s WHIP was nearly 1.4. Happ outpaced him there. Cole has a better K rate, Happ the better walk rate. The area of absolute killer concern for Happ was the HR rate, nearly 2 per 9. That’s likely an anomaly and would be benefited by having him move to the NL or to a bigger park. As I said with Sonny Gray last year (who was an all star and got CY votes this year), Happ isn’t “done”. He’s not useless. He has clear value. He just needs to leave NY both from a performance and a logistical standpoint.
  6. Greinke is not Cole. And Whitley had a 7.99 ERA in the minors last year with 7.5 walks per 9. He ain’t ready.
  7. Thanks guys, I think? Yes this is a Sox board, but it’s pretty consistent with my day to day as I live in Mass. I am on a Yankee board too. I’ve been on a few others in the past, but some are ridiculously optimistic and even ban you for anything negative. I’m permanently banned at NYYFans after suggesting that Arod sucked and shouldn’t have been extended after his opt out. Weird.
  8. Losing Gerrit Cole doesn’t help
  9. He needs to throw 165 innings in 2020. So if he sucks, no way the team acquiring him allows it to vest
  10. Two reasons 1. Happ has been FAR more durable than the glass man himself, Eovaldi. Nate and Jacoby are IL buddies. They have been hurt more than healthy 2. The guaranteed money left. If Happ is a disaster, he’s a one year disaster. For Nate, if he’s a disaster, you’ve got him for three years
  11. The fact is, the Sox are entering a down phase. The Astros are at the end of their window. Our time comes now with no other big AL power
  12. Maybe other teams are thinking they can get a 3WAR pitcher on the cheap and are willing to take a higher upside guy with no role as enticement? Happ was a 3 WAR pitcher on average from 2015-2018. I agree that if we are to offload Happ without including money, we’ll need to pay with other players
  13. I feel like I’m in a f***ing alternate universe here. You’re stuck in the past. Are you sure you haven’t had a psychotic break? Sale is damaged goods. Lost velocity due to a shoulder issue from 2018. Lost the last two mo the of 2019 with a still u resolved elbow issue. And I’m the one who isn’t in reality thinking that he isn’t gonna make it through the year healthy? Price is damaged goods. He’s an older pitcher who hasn’t been healthy two of the last three seasons, lost velocity and is now coming off wrist surgery. But he’s a good bet to stay healthy? Nate Eovaldi had one magical month in October 2018. He’s never been healthy, ever. He is coming off another poor year with poor health. And I’m the delusional one? You added the king of durability and production in Perez. But he’s a great signing, of course, because YOU want him to be, lol Erod has a good year last year with great run support and he stayed healthy for once. Of course, he’s gonna stay healthy forever!
  14. Optimism and realism don’t always mesh. It isn’t that the Sox pitching is “gonna suck now and forevah!” It’s more that they hitched their fate to three pitchers who are now oft injured and/or diminished.
  15. You seem to forget that we saw 4 parades in 5 years not too long before your first. But you probably blocked that out, or are too dumb to remember.
  16. $6 mil for a guy who stinks is pretty expensive, IMO, especially when you’re trying to cut payroll
  17. You’re delusional
  18. And his ERA post ASB was over 6. He was awful on the whole, and he will be again. This is an expensive “throw s*** against the wall” player
  19. A parade right down to the basement is about all you’re parading. The duck boats are gonna gather some rust
  20. I was here. I’m always here. I don’t hide like you will
  21. He’ll disappear when we win one
  22. Says the guy who cannot spell pinstriped
  23. I already responded to that
  24. We are gonna best the ever living s*** out of this guy
