  1. Perfect place for Porcello to recoup value
  2. Sox have added $9 mil in guarantees today. Now they will need to shed $28 mil from the docket to get under
  3. Starter from the Twins. Won 10 games. Fell apart as the season went along. 1.9 WAR for a 5+ERA pitcher. Lefty found his velocity last year topping out at 94. Another under the radar Bloom signing. $6 mil with an option for 2021.
  4. I don’t hate that idea. Maybe get some IFA money back
  5. I just posted in another thread that Bloom might shave it down to 2 seasons, so clearly that is not the path I am getting behind.
  6. You are gonna hate Bloom if your goal is to win anything in the next 2 years. These are the moves he made in TB. He signed guys off the scrap heap and turned them into something. He dealt for guys who teams were ready to give up on and found a role for them. I told everyone here, Bloom's arrival at a time when the sox need to cut payroll is going to 100% make people hate him in the off-seasons then quietly love the results. Bloom is the kind of guy who could potentially shave your rebuild down to 2 yrs from the expected 3
  7. How could he be reactionary? The sox have gone public with their need to cut payroll. You don't reactionarily cut payroll, that is stupid. You can make reactionary signings, but that defeats the off-season's primary goal
  8. They "may" be able to offload JBJ without including money, although I do wonder if the decision to tender him was a bad one. I do wonder how much of Price's deal they'd have to eat. To get under the window, the sox would need to offload $8.5 mil of Price's deal to sneak under after dealing off JBJ. They would need to return no major league talent above minimum money and would need to not replace Price. As bad as Price was last year, replacing him with a Brian Johnson will destroy the sox chances of being relevant. That being said, there is a quote that Bloom made that makes me wonder about the rebuild. Bloom is quoted in the mlbtr piece as saying “But so much of what we’re always going to be trying to accomplish, but certainly now, is to make sure we have as strong a farm system as possible.” This is obvious for any team, but saying this for a team that is offloading salary speaks towards a tear down
  9. The other thing to keep in mind here is that Peraza will be arb eligible for 2 more seasons after this one. If Bloom is right and this signing turns out good for the sox, they can keep him on arb through 2022.
  10. I am surprised he got a guaranteed major league contract, to be entirely honest. His speed dipped last year, which was his only plus tool. But Bloom has a history of taking these former top prospects and getting something out of them. Jury will be out
  11. Just read the mlb.com piece on the sox and their plans. The sox are currently $19.4 mil over the final threshold. JBJ won't be enough to reset this year
  12. So it is official. Rosters will expand to 26 for 2020. At a MLB minimum, this will raise payrolls by about $600K. Something else to factor in for lux tax purposes
  13. Outside of an injury to Cole, in the offseason, there is literally no hole that would necessitate such a desperate decision now
  14. Unless the sox had a plan for the $31 mil the sox would shed (or likely less), then adding cheap and young talent to off load him is dumb
  15. Ah, I remember the reports were pretty skewed initially. $2.5 mil is harder to hide.
  16. The best option for the Sox in a year where they’re dropping cash payouts is to prove Price is healthy, then deal him in season. Teams will want a discount right now because they’re not sure he’s healthy. If the Sox are convinced that this wrist issue is behind him, then they may end up shedding more of his salary once he proves he can take the hill
  17. Likely to be the Holt replacement as a super utility guy. 1 year $3 mil guaranteed
  18. Worth it to avoid the ten spot penalty? Probably, especially if the difference was only a few hundred thousand.
  19. The reset will be one year. The rebuild likely longer than that
  20. Of course, but I'm sure the Angels would have been flexible with the amount of money especially if the sox kicked in another prospect
  21. Gammons is out of his mind unless the deal also includes Devers. Price and Beni for Madrigal and Vaughan would be a franchise altering decision from the White Sox and would immediately reinject life into the sox fanbase. I wouldn't take that deal if the money was exactly the same
  22. Strikes aren't a problem. Health is. He continues to struggle with health as both a starter and a reliever. Also, for a guy who throws as hard as he does, he allows a high amount of homers.
  23. As of right now, the Yanks have a projected Lux tax calculation of $259,304,214. That is $11.3 mil over the final threshold. With all the spending, I do wonder if the Yanks decide to just destroy the $40 mil overage. No point in going past it by a couple mil like the sox did in 2018. If you're gonna go past it, go for it. Otherwise, the only deal I can forsee beyond the unlikely grievance issue with Ellsbury is a Happ trade. With the $11.3 mil in overages, it sounds like we have the amount we would need to recoup in a Happ trade. Happ plus $5 mil for whomever you want to give us.
  24. Then the yanks are planning to blow past the final limit and not give a s***. Don’t like that plan especially when we are now out a fifth and second round pick for signing cole
  25. Yanks had a choice. Roll with what you’ve got and see if chance takes you to the promised land or sell now assets for non ace pitchers. I go with option 1, especially when you know a guy like Cole is hitting the market
