  1. Figured I start the merry christmas thread. As much as we s*** on each other, it is all in good fun. Hopefully everyone will have a happy and healthy holiday. And please eat a lot and get fat, you all deserved it. I know I am eating a lot. So I figured I'd make the official talksox dinner thread. What are you all having for dinner tomorrow night? I am having prime rib, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, horseradish sauce, and lots of beer. Oh and to keep this in the talksox-redsox forum for everyone to see it, name the fattest red sox players and yankees players of all time. for the yankees, cecil fielder is the fattest with wells as a close second.
  2. take a look at the way the yankees broke in their players. Jeter won the job in ST. They had their previous yr's SS in camp in Pat Kelly. Posada had Girardi. Cano had Womack. Melky had Bernie. These guys all had players that could replace them and at least give replacement level performance. Cora is a sub par offensive player. Him as a regular if Pedroia bombs out will be death.
  3. we shall see. He is faster and has more power.
  4. he's better than Kapler
  5. Do they know it's christmas time at all?
  6. I have thought about why the braves havent called up the sox about Crisp. They typically get the best out of their deals and the fact that they are laying off the Coco could be that they arent sold on him bouncing back.
  7. The globe today had a scouting report on pedroia. Here it is.
  8. I dont think he outfoxed LaRussa. The sox steamrolled that team into oblivion.
  9. their plan is to throw a lot of money at Torii Hunter or Andruw Jones.
  10. Hrm. I hope Bernie retires. If the yankees think they are carrying 12 position players, they cannot have someone so inept at fielding in the OF as the backup. If we deal Melky, I hope KT gets the job as backup OFer. That guy is a good little ballplayer.
  11. my point on Coco was that he costs 5 mil a yr and he has 2 yrs left (i think) until this contract runs out and 3 yrs left to FA. That means he will be a rather expensive replacement (5 mil per for now then arb if he amounts to anything). Melky still is under a full yr of service time, so he is controllable for at least the next 5, maybe 6 seasons in the majors.
  12. the guy is a small guy to begin with. He is said to have lost anywhere between 15 and 20 lbs. You also must consider that the kid just had all of his rapidly dividing cells killed in his body (gut, hair, etc). This means he is weak, very weak in a game where power and finesse are necessary. Plus, you must consider his emotional state. He is gonna be 23 I think. It would benefit everyone involved if he goes to AAA where there is no pressure and rebuilds himself from ground zero. Therefore, when he returns he will he a lot in the tank both physically and emotionally. Dont rush him. Plus, he is cancer free for now. This will be hanging over his head for his whole life. Lymphoma is classic for recurrences. I hope that the high profile nature of this case yields biyearly examinations to see how he is doing and hopefully can maximize his life in both quality and quantity. Don't trivialize this into being "cancer-free". Consider it halftime in a lifelong battle. Here is to hoping his cancer NEVER returns, but we all must see that there is a high likelihood that it will in some form or another.
  13. when all else fails, go for the spelling eh senior? I wont go that low yet. As of right now, there are no viable FA options and the only trade options seem to not be fits for the sox. As it looks right now, the sox will be filling their closer's role internally on a team that had a BP era over 4.5 with papelbon, and without him, the era was 5.1.
  14. exactly, good post.
  15. the rangers now have 4 starters and will likely give their 5 spot to either volquez or tejeda. They seem to be happy with their lineup and their pen is solid. They were shopping Otsuka for a starter, now they may not need one. And if they get Zito, it would diminish their want to deal him even further.
  16. btw, this deal likely makes the rangers less likely to deal Otsuka.
  17. FN, I see your point, but those teams have multiple lights out relievers. The sox currently, dont have any.
  18. http://www.dallasnews.com/s/advertising/interstitial/index.htm?fw=http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/baseball/rangers/stories/122406dnsporangerstrade.39fa6227.html WOW. McCarthy for Danks and one other prospect. I cannot believe how poor the white sox have been this offseason in their trades.
  19. Damon is durable bro. He takes the field with anything. My definition of injury prone and yours may be different. I consider injury prone by the injury and time missed. If your definition of injury prone is the fact that the guy battles multiple injuries every season then you are dead on. Fact is, though, Melky needs to see the field for at least 100 games, and out of the 3 in the OF and if Giambi is in fact entrenched at DH, then you wont get 40 out of that OF.
  20. thing is, Mo had a nagging injuyry but was very effective. Timlin had a shoulder problem, but exploded late. A guy who is old and coming off a 6+ERA second half is not a guy I'd be comfortable with right now.
  21. alvarez would have gotten a shot last season if he didnt break his ankle. I dont think he would have one well, though. He does suck.
