  1. scm, I am not saying that they are out of options. I am saying that they are running out of options available right now. Options pop up during the season, but to bring this team uncompleted into the season is inexcuseable. As of right now, the only teams with interest in dealing a closer are not a match.
  2. not right now. If melky doesnt get dealt, then Bernie wont have a spot. If he does get dealt, expect him to be a yankee.
  3. right now the trade options are on teams that dont fit. The Rangers and stros want starting pitching and the pirates want a lefty power bat. The pirates can get the lefty power bat from the braves, but the braves want a young, cheap replacement for Andruw, and Coco is too close to FA to want him. Right now, the sox need to hope someone will ask for power and jump at WMP.
  4. they are running out of options.
  5. detroit does not have a closer by committee. Todd Jones is their closer. Zumaya is their set up man.
  6. just saw that, interesting. The Guardians now have foulke and borowski in the pen with other puddles of s***. The Guardians and the red soxare gonna be in the same boat with the pen. Great O, solid starters, s*** in the pen.
  7. I think this is a very good signing. I thought Runelvys would get a major league deal somewhere. He has great stuff and is still young enough to rebound. I see him pushing tavares out of that long relief role so he can be used later in the game.
  8. probably thompson if defense is needed and bernie if offense is needed. I see them carrying 5OFers.
  9. I made a point earlier about Melky not getting enough PT because the yankee outfield is actually anything but injury prone. Matsui played every single game of his career until he broke his wrist. Abreu has played over 150 games for something like 9 yrs in a row and Damon is continually over 135 games, so Melky would have had to squak out some time when one of those guys got a rest as the DH. I love Melky. I think the guy is gonna hit for a high average one day and be a very different style of corner OFer. At the same time, he wont see the field as a starter for 2 more yrs and the yankees in that time will likely have a better OFer to go after or bring up Tabata. The time is now to move him, unfortunately.
  10. I wont hate you plump. I dont hate anyone on here aside from the dodgers jackoffs, I love good conversation.
  11. Man, bosox, you have pegged a 21 yr old kid coming off a successful yr 1 and consider him to be a future journeyman. I wish I had your foresight.
  12. Predictions are pouring in but the rumor front is quiet. I could see the sox going status quo until ST, then acquiring Otsuka during april once gagne shows he can still pitch without his arm coming off. If that doesnt happen, then I dont think the sox will nab a known closer, but rather deal for a quality MR and hope and pray he can cut it in Boston of all places.
  13. rotoworld didnt like the pickups saying that the sox continually bring in non-roster invitees who have no shot and hence the cupboard is bare at midseason. What I'd say to rotoworld is, why would a non-roster invitee want to go to the sox when they know they dont have a prayer of seeing time until august anyway. Take it for what it is worth.
  14. who would win in a race? Benji Molina or Prince's dad big Cec.
  15. The Yankees sacrificed the sexy names for the ones who will give innings. I didnt know this stat until I saw it yesterday on yankees.com. The Yankees starters threw 934IP last season. Adding Igawa and Pettitte gave the yankees 2 guys with a track record of endurance. Add that to Wang, Mussina, and Johnson and you have 5 guys who can surpass 200IP. If Pavano can return to what he should be, then he could surpass 200IP if given a regular spot over Igawa. Durability was the issue the previous yrs. That shouldnt be the case this season. And Mr. C, you are correct. Pavano's gaping gap needs a large metal bridge to cross.
  16. tendon replacement. The ligament has not been the issue.
  17. Those guys werent there bosox. When Melky was doing most of his work, there was no sheff or matsui and cano was down for 6 weeks. There were a couple games that Giambi and ARod missed with various ailments and Damon nearly went on the DL after he missed 5 staright games with that foot. There were times in that yankees lineup when Jeter and Posada were the only regulars starting and Melky was hilariously one of the "big" threats. This season will be different assuming everyone suits up, but the yankee lineup last yr was a mash unit until the trading deadline, when they started to get healthy and added in Abreu.
  18. the elbow has nothing structurally wrong with it. It was miraculously cured. It's called surgery and it was done 3 yrs ago.
  19. piss on the parade son. You know what Pettitte brings, and he will be bringing it for the full yr. As usual, I expect him to have a low 4's era with 15-20 wins in that lineup and that bullpen.
  20. suppan still has signed yet.
  21. I dont get that logic though. If he is in a great lineup, you would think that he would be targetted as the sole weak link, hence they pitched to him. Plus, if he rarely chased balls outside the zone, you would think that he should get praise for his high OBP skills rather than calling them a fluke. Whether a guy is going for the HR or a double or whathaveyou, not chasing pitches is not chasing pitches. If you are saying it is an organizational philosophy, then he is following it to a T, kinda like Youkilis.
  22. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061221&content_id=1766055&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp the deal has been finalized, the physical passed, and Pettitte is officially a yankee now.
  23. Clement never has the 2nd best stuff in baseball to Hudson, as Hudson never had the best stuff. You want to talk about best stuff 2 yrs ago, it was Randy and Pedro.
