  1. HIs first full season as a professional has been nothing short of amazing. Joba Chamberlain, 21, was selected in the supplemental round as the 41st pick in the 2006 MLB draft. At the time, teams admitted Joba was a top 10 talent, but shied away because he had a serious tendency to be overweight (some say he tipped the scales at 300lbs on more than one occasion) at Nebraska and also had a lingering tricep injury. But that didnt stop the yankees from drafting him and signing him. He did sign late though and only got one appearance in A ball before the season ended. But it didnt stop there. He was sent to Hawaii by the Yankees for winter league ball and absolutely dominated. In 37.2IP he walked 3 batters, while striking out 46. That was a harbinger of things to come as he started to get national notice on many baseball prospect rankings. This yr, he arrived at camp in the best shape of his life. Sitting at 6'2" 230 lbs and looking thin as ever, he showed up ready for work. And there was talk that Joba might actually skip the lower A levels just like his 06 draft compadre Ian Kennedy eventually did. And they were right, Joba was to start the yr in Tampa, high A baseball, something typically reserved for guys who have at least shown they can handle the long season leagues first in A ball. But, Joba fell to the hamstring bug and ended up missing most of ST and the beginning of the season in Tampa. But he ended up recovering. His arsenal is interesting to say the least. He's one of those special armed pitchers to come around once in a great while. A guy at 21 who can regularly light up the gun in the 98-99mph range, but one who also has impeccable control. His plus off speed pitch is his slider, which he can throw close to 90mph. He also throws a MLB average curveball and a changeup with plus potential (yet is considered to be average to below average at this moment). In terms of velocity, you arent going to find many guys who can throw harder than Joba. In his last start, he was clocked at 99mph 4 times, the last being in the last AB of his start. Thus far, his stat line looks like this.... 4-0 2.03ERA 7GS 40IP 25H 51K 11BB .181BAA 0.90WHIP He will join Ian Kennedy, Jeff Marquez, Alan Horne, Jason Jones, and Brett Smith in the rotation (one will likely be promoted to AAA, most likely Horne or Smith). Good luck Joba the Hut.
  2. Plus Romero had a WHIP at or near 2. As a reliever, that is putrid. As a semi-specialist, that is unacceptable.
  3. to be honest with you Gom, it wont matter. If this is the yankee team we will see for the rest of the yr (not winning 9 of every 11, but you know what I mean) then it isnt going to matter. My worry is that one of these SP's is going to be going down with an injury prior to Phenom Phil's return and muck up the works. When you have 4 quality starters and a quality rookie going through his ups and downs, you can win some games. Its when you have to rely on fringe guys in one or more spots that you start to feel the deep burn. And not in a very good area mind you.
  4. cmon guys, this isnt all that bad. Hell, this deal might even go through............. ....... ......... ......... ........... ............ ........... ............. ............... in MLB 07 the show........ ........... ............. ............ ............ .......... ........... . Only if you put force trades on. I know that guy from other boards. He's not that dumb. I'd assume he is kidding, if we're thinking about the same guy with the SN prospero.
  5. Leyland is a lot like Torre IMO.
  6. The Yankees were already able to sign 3 players from the draft. Manuel Barreda, Snyder and an undrafted player with the last name minor. On another note, Grote is very close to signing, as is Pope. And for further good news, Chase Weems (the yankees 6th round pick) was contacted by the phillies in the 3rd round and turned them down. But after being drafted by the yankees, the kid's dad is allowing him to proceed with signing and wil likely be in the yankees fold by the end of next week.
  7. It is june, right? A pitcher having a bad first half does nothing for what his career will hold. Hell, those were similar to the #s Pettitte put forth in the first half last yr too.
  8. That is an idea you can stick with. Good audition last yr (granted, a bit high on the WHIP) he is left handed, AND he is having some strong outings in AAA this season. If you want to plan around the lefty, then go ahead. But around a kid with nothing going for him (Delcarmen), that is sheer madness.
  9. I hope so. Hell, I thought the back end of their draft was amazing and we should do everything in our power to retain all that we can.
  10. BTW, Manny may be looking at a suspension even though he wasnt tossed. Throwing anything in the direction of an umpire is grounds for suspension. And it was pretty obvious he threw his gloves in the umps direction. We'll see how they interpret that.

  12. 6IP 3H 0ER 8K 2BB in another trenton victory. DOMINANT.
  13. Well, Clippard was exactly as expected. Inconsistent. Solid one game, awful the next. He isnt ready for full time work in NY, but he had to be and he has been interesting to say the least. I would think that he gets demoted once Igawa is deemed ready. But good for him. I like Clippard, I definitely think he has major league stuff. But he needs to learn that major league players dont chase as much as the minor leaguers do. IE, find the zone more.
  14. My old stomping grounds, Lelacheur stadium. Oh the memories.
  15. In regards to Mahoney, if the yankees want him, they'll get him. Lets be honest here. Slot means nothing in NY.
  16. watch the scouting videos. I can tell a lot about a player after one solid swing. Watch him for a few more and you get a picture of what they need to work on and what kind of player they can be. That is why I think Sublett is more of a what you see is what you get kind of athlete. His swing is near perfect. There isnt any projection left.
  17. thebaseballcube.com has stats, but they lack this yrs. If you want to see this yrs stats, you are gonna have to go to the individual school webpages.
  18. yeah, it was sucking for the yankee game too.
