  1. 294. Kade Koewen 6'5" 215 LSU@Eunice R/R CF No video, but at 6'5, I can imagine that this kid has some serious power projection.
  2. 8th round pick: Taylor Grote 6'2" 195 L/R CF The Woodlands HS Watched the scouting video. Kid looks like he has a very solid arm. He looks like he'd be a good runner too, he just has that "glide" to him that most of the better runners do. He doesnt have world class speed though, I can tell ya that. His swing has a lot of power projection. He drifts a lot, even to the point of getting out in front of his base on some swings. But I like this pick a ton better than Weems.
  3. 264. Adam Mills RHP UNC Charlotte 6'0" 190lbs no video, no idea. Will get back to this. 14-2 1.01ERA 141K in 142IP 27BB .188BAA wow.
  4. 7th round pick: Damon Sublet 2B Wichita St L/R, 6'1" 190lbs Batted .364 this season for the Shockers with 4HR and 14 steals. In 2006, he hit .394 with 12 steals. Its like night and day watching this kid hit compared to the HS kids. Compact, short stroke, no drift, no wasted movement. He doesnt look like he has much power and his # bear that out. But his swing is nice. His arm isnt. He slings the ball and really doesnt look like he has the capacity to be anything but a 2b.
  5. 234. David Mailman, 6-2 180 L/L 1B, Providence Sr. HS. Watched the scouting video. He looked like he was being tried out in the OF. I like his release and he has the makings of a pretty accurate and strong arm. Could be an OFer in the sox system. His swing has no drift, which is very good, but he doesnt stay tall throughout the swing and breaks down at the end. His weight comes forward rather awkwardly during the actual swing and he dives over the plate. Interesting pick. As with the yankee pick, this kid is quite raw. As should be expected btw out of a HS kid.
  6. 6th round pick: Richard Weems C Columbus HS Watched the scouting video of him. He had 5 throws to the bases and wasnt accurate. He has a hitch in his delivery as well that will add maybe a tenth of a second. He stays upright in his stance and looks like he could have a nice gap to gap stroke, but he also has a lot of forward drift which will be taken advantage of in the lower levels. This kid is a project, wow. He might be better suited for college.
  7. Sox 6th round pick- Anthony Rizzo- 1b- out of HS All I know is that he is an early commit to FAU.
  8. ever since ARod was seen in Toronto with that whore, he has been on fire. Solution: ARod needs more whores.
  9. I completely agree that you go by best available. Maybe it is just a pet peeve of mine, but I really dont like drafting kids out of HS when their biggest aspect is speed. Call it CJ Henry syndrome. Those types of players are better served to play in college and see if they can translate that speed and potential into consistent hitting.
  10. You have lefties in games 1 and 3 of the dbacks series. I'd assume you stick with Youk in those game and use Papi in game 2.
  11. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070607&content_id=2011635&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Oppenheimer likes his picks. Says Olbrychowski throws 92-96. Thats pretty good for a guy who doesnt throw a 4 seamer (his fastball is a 2 seam sinking FB).
  12. I think the Morris pick is solid because if a guy can hit for power, they'll find a spot. I just think it is a huge risk when you draft a kid out of HS who really shows no power projection and is solely a speed demon. Those are the type of kids you shy away from out of HS and then take them if they show they can handle it in college.
  13. for some reason, our offense awakes from its slumber against your arms. It is on our arms to put your bats in a slumber.
  14. it doesnt take much. Look at the stuff, look at the numbers, see what the scouts say and go from there. Its pretty easy to ferrett out the BS when you do your own leg work. Just like some NESPN idiots who like to change their opinions on a dime, you learn who you should and who you shouldnt trust. Sure, the NESPN morons are good to hammer home a point, but some have been VERY wrong on guys who arent even that much hidden. Case in point. Keith Law is a moron. I have used him to add to my points and discredited him when he doesnt. I know, bad moves, but still. He has said many times that a guy like Alan Horne (Yankee AA pitcher) has a future as nothing more than a #5 or a mopup man because he tops out at 90mph and has no movement. Then, 2 weeks later, he says Horne has a future as a back end of the rotation pitcher and tops out at 92 with his 4 seamer and has a mid 80s 2 seamer. Fact is, you go through scout.com (Yankee section only) and every now and then, through BA, and you will get the actual scoop. BUT, the best is if you go see them for yourself. I've seen Horne in Trenton this yr. He tops out at 96 and sits at 92-94 with his 4 seamer and tops out at 92 with the 2 seamer (sat right behind a scout with a juggs gun too to confirm the scoreboard readings when I wasnt too busy filling my face with hot dogs and nachos). So overall, it doesnt take a lot. Just simple paying attention and interest can get you all you need. And none of us are experts. I dont think anyone can actually call themselves that because an expert wouldnt be wrong 3/4 of the time, like so many of these so called experts are.
  15. chances are, though, his arm will be a complementary piece rather than the whole shabang. Sounds like he'll be a 3b instead of a SP.
  16. Those guys are a dime a dozen. The true great ones are the ones who actually learn how to pitch and implement it. There is no given that DiceK will do that effectively.
  17. maybe not. The schedule maker has given the red sox 19 games against the DRays after July. July is about the time they give up and go into the tank something awful. Didnt the Rays win something like 19 of their last 80 last yr?
  18. Ah, so you are the wild one then eh Youkette? The Orioles are the Orioles are the Orioles. Boog's is great, the crab cakes are delectable, the baseball is forgettable. Their pitching isnt enough to hold it down. Bedard needs to be complemented as he is more of a 2 or a 3 due to inconsistency and Cabrera doesnt complement anyone due to his serious inconsistency. Also, their offense is very hit or miss and lacks any sort of huge power threat on a nightly basis. Yeah, Tejada is a great hitter, but he doesnt put the fear of god in you like he did a few yrs back. But the future is bright. Markakis and Rowell could be a very solid 3/4 and the rotation with the addition of Erbe and the maturation of Loewen could be very good. I just think they lack the high end talent to compete this yr. And the manager, and especially the owner. Peter Angelos has f***ed the fans of Baltimore in the bum with no lube on a nightly basis. Once he goes, your team may actually have a long term prayer. Until then, you'll be battling with the DRays for the cellar come autumn.
  19. Game over 10-3 Yankee win. We have won 2 straight series, 6 of 8 games and have gained 4 games on the sox in that span. Good spurt, but is it too little, too late? Likely IMO. The sox wont stay this off for too long.
  20. does anyone feel sorry for Ozzie?
  21. ARod with the grand slam. Goodnight Chicago. Wow. ARod is en fuego.
