  1. Edwar has a slightly better fastball than Foulke, so we'll see. If I remember correctly, Foulke was exclusively a FB/Change guy. Remember, Edwar has a breaking ball too. His numbers are too good to ignore. And, SCM, shame on you. Your math is awful. Edwar is 26. Foulke retired at 33. How many yrs does he have left?
  2. he and Britton are next in line for a callup, WHEN needed. The Yankees always take too long with garbage veterans. It took them too long to DFA Karsay, Quantrill and Stanton on the last go round. I hope they DFA gas can soon so these kids can show what they can do. BTW, props to ORS for giving Vizcaino the nickname Gas can, I use it a lot.
  3. Prediction: Schill will get hit a little more than his last start. But that will be because he is laying them in with a lead. Sox jump on Fogg early, 5 in the first. Schill goes 7, giving up 3ER with 5K and 8H and Okajima/Donnelly close the door on the non-save opp as the sox take the game 8-4. Josh Fogg should not have a Major League job. He is slightly better than Tim f***ing Redding.
  4. dude, um, Lowell IS Deuce. Where is Drew?
  5. and that is well beyond what I stated. Nice try though.
  6. Tim Norton, whom many considered to be one of the biggest "steals" of the 06 draft, is staring at the end of his short career. Norton, drafted in the 7th round after a much celebrated career at UConn, signed right away, and threw 72IP in Staten Island and dominated. 3-3 2.60ERA 72.2IP 83K 14BB 60H He shot up the yankee depth charts and was assigned to long season to start the yr. Old for a prospect, 24, he was considered to be a future pen arm and with his low to mid 90s heat and his plus splitter, he had "closer" potential. He started the yr strong (32K in 28IP at Charleston), he noticed discomfort in his pitching shoulder. An MRI showed serious damage and according to reports coming out of yankee land, he had a rotator cuff repair. With his advanced age at a lower level and his now lengthy rehab from a shoulder injury, that once promising pen arm is now looking like another pitcher with promise not fulfilled. The Yankee injury bug has been hitting hard this yr in the minors, but thankfully, Norton is the only player with a long term repercussion. Humberto Sanchez went down in ST with a torn UCL and had Tommy John surgery. He should be back by ST next yr. Mark Melancon went down in October with Tommy John. He will likely be ready to throw in a few months, although he is certainly being held out of playing this season. Christian Garcia has also had Tommy John over the fall and is in the same boat as Melancon. And JB Cox had elbow surgery, but did not have Tommy John. Rumors abound that it was either a bone chip retrieval or an ulnar nerve transposition, both less serious than TJ. Even Brackman, the yankees #1 pick has had questions about the stability of his elbow. Even so, with the record that TJ surgery has, these players are still staring at a very bright future. Norton on the other hand, is likely done. Hence why you need quantity and quality.
  7. lebron cannot do everything by himself.
  8. You are not giving him his due. He's the Rockies best pitcher.
  9. the radio guys said he got as high as 99.
  10. Anyone see the pitching matchups for the next 5 days? Tonight's game may be the most winnable of the 5. Schilling vs Fogg- edge Schill. Sox should cruise Beckett vs Francis- push. Soft tossing lefty with strikeout pitch vs sox best pitcher Tavarez vs Zito- edge Zito. SOft tossing lefty with strikeout pitch vs sox worst pitcher Cain vs Matsuzaka- edge Cain. Cain is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball Wakefield vs Morris- push. Morris has been unreal this yr, mid 2's ERA, 7-3. After tonight's game, the sox O will certainly be tested.
  11. no need for a feud fred. Sox nation is a very strange one indeed. But I have had the best spectator seat in the house in watching the comings and goings of red sox fans IN red sox nation. Unless you have been A: Raised by a sox fan, or B: been a sox fan in New England, you dont really have much of a pedigree. And as a convert from a coast away, things are different. Does that mean you are any less of a fan. No. Does that mean you dont love your red sox. Absolutely not. But does it mean that you havent experienced and lived in the red sox culture. Absolutely. Being a fan and living in the culture are 2 different things in your case. If you wish to continue this topic, there is one in the fights and crap thread. I;d enjoy other people's opinions on this. And just for reference. The entire state of Massachusetts does not have the name "Yankees" available for their little league players on their teams. Consider that. Would NY ever do that? Cali? Anywhere else? No. Massachusetts is a different animal when it comes to the sox.
  12. fred. The difference is that you started as a NL fan and converted to a sox fan when you were older. Youk is a sox fan who follows a NL team as well. Like I said, there is a difference in being brought up one way and then choosing another.
  13. the track meet when he is on base? He throws a 75mph fastball and a 65mph knuckler. He cannot speed up his motion or he will be throwing BP and his move is okay at best. A knuckleballer IS a track meet on the bases. Him leaving his pitches up is part of the pitch of chaos. Wake has nearly perfected it and he still is nothing more than a 4.5ERA kinda guy. Just sit back, and enjoy. The patient teams seem to bomb him. He eats up the inexperienced.
  14. are ya serious? He is throwing a floating pitch at about 65mph to major league hitters. Consistency is certainly not that. His pitches are left up to the wind and spin. Yes, spin. A good knuckler has a slight downward rotation. Those that get whacked have no spin at all. In Wake's case, he isnt going to be consistent. Beckett can be. DiceK can be. On any given night they can toss the ball 95 and locate it. That is consistent. Wake cannot. It is the blessing and the curse of the pitch of chaos.
  15. and flipping burgers at BK. Johnny. LOL.
  16. in his last 3 outings, he has this line... 3.2IP 2H 1BB 9K 9 of the 11 possible outs have been K's. Almost all of his K's are swinging btw, which is interesting and leads me to believe that he has stellar stuff, BUT will have a little trouble adjusting initially because of the more patient MLB hitters. But that kind of dominance in AAA is amazing.
  17. He'll be on a PC. They will be stupid not to give him one. Listen man, you guys have a huge lead. Tavarez is pitching better than the average 5th starter. Lester is coming off cancer, a poor start, and an arm scare. Right now, his PC is at about 65 pitches. They will increase that by 5 every start and once he gets to about 100-110, he'll be major league ready. Bringing him up right now is a poor move.
  18. apparently. His bread and butter is his changeup. Sounds like a Keith Foulke type of player with a little more velocity.
  19. the A's arent going anywhere.
  20. Meredith will likely settle in as a Chad Bradford type. He has a very deceptive motion.
