  1. Barnes is not helping his case for getting dealt to a contender
  2. I’m liking what I’ve seen from King and Nelson. Really excited to see what Schmidt can do if/when he gets up to the majors. Not impressed by Paxton. Velocity is way down
  3. Don’t give a s*** what it is. We’ve got enough arms in the caddy squad to give a shot to. Paxton has looked really bad from day 1. He’s an FA after the year. If he’s damaged, just shut him down and bring up the kids
  4. Paxton’s lack of velocity is very concerning.
  5. Not sure why you throw a breaking ball to DJ on 3-2 and risk facing Judge as a lefty.
  6. Nick Nelson was always a stiff over substance guy in the minors, but man did he look good yesterday
  7. ERod out for the season. No surprise
  8. If MLB had any f***ing balls, they’d have commandeered a baseball facility on the east and west coast. Split the central in two by geography. There’s now an eastern and a western conference. The eastern conference goes to X training facility. The Western conference goes to Y training facility. These facilities are gated with guards, etc. You can leave, but you have to sign out. Have day games, evening games and night games on all fields. Boom, season uninterrupted
  9. You cannot trust a group of macho 20-somethings to abide by anything. You monitor and force them to. MLB thought all the players would drop in line. Whereas the NBA created a bubble. The NBA will finish their season intact. They’ll also be able to start in the spring with zero issues as they have become the gold standard. MLB, again, is the laughingstock of sports
  10. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/why-did-mookie-betts-sign-141400795.html Michael Holley on why Betts didn’t sign w boston
  11. Well, that may be the end of his Yankee career. No confirmation on TJS, but I’d assume that’s coming
  12. It would also be horribly foolish as the likelihood of all 3 surviving or thriving without injury or ineffectiveness is low
  13. They’re the easiest game to distance but their commissioner once again showed how f***ing stupid he is. The NBA got it right. There’s NO way to ensure social distancing without a bubble. It takes one player to cause an outbreak
  14. If Verdugo can grow up a bit, he could really be a good hitter. I see him almost as a Beni type. .300 20HR type player
  15. Downs is worth far more than Graterol. From a value standpoint, the Sox did better with the deal they got. But now it’s about maximizing your pitching. It seems pitchers are far more difficult nowadays to get on the open market. Good to great pitchers know they’re one injury away from being done, so they take the extensions offered early in their major league careers and sacrifice long term potential income for the security of guaranteed income. So you’re either getting a pitcher who bucks the trend for their first big contract at extreme dollars (Cole) or a pitcher with lots of miles on their tread for their post extension contract and you risk paying for pst performance. This is why the development of pitching or the dealing from a strong farm is so key. Having money to throw around helps too.
  16. The Sox lineup is solid. Having a stud like Downs in the wings likely locks down 2b long term. You don’t lose much when JBJ falls off after the year. The problem isn’t the lineup. The Sox have scored 32 runs in 6 games. For those of you thinking the Sox pitching will return to glory next year, my question is “how”? Sale will be post TJS. His surgery was in March. Most starters aren’t the same until 15-18 months post procedure (relievers seem to come back sooner). That’s best case June of 2021 and worst case September. ERod is an answer, but seriously, I only hope he returns to being able to play. Myocarditis is no joke. Eovaldi has looked good for 2 starts, and as I’ve said before, this is Nate. Solid for a month, absolutely awful got a month. And he’s no marathon warrior in terms of health. Beyond those 3, there’s nothing on the farm that even resembles depth and losing a year of development is crushing. The best thing Bloom can hope for is he finds on rotation diamond in the rough to stick in the back of the 2021 rotation. But it’s never easy to build a rotation from the outside with just money. Most of the time you fail. It’s rare to see it hit (like the Yanks did in 09, but not long term). My bet is Bloom deals for pitching prospects this year and maybe he even swings a Downs for top 100 pitching prospect deal. He’s known to move guys after their debuts or even before. And he hits when he does
  17. Mean time to symptoms is 4-5 days, but can be as long as 2 weeks. Positive testing is dependent upon viral shedding which can be up to 2 weeks after exposure or more
  18. They’re doing this all wrong. Playing games in the home parks forces people to travel. You split the teams the way you’ve designated. You commandeer baseball complexes and play games there, creating a true bubble. You don’t go to home stadiums and travel three times a week at times. It was stupid from the beginning. The NBA, again, did things correctly
  19. And the season cannot even get off the tarmac without an outbreak.
  20. 3 games in and you guys wanna blow it up. I get it, don’t get me wrong, but if the conviction going into the season was to ride it out, then it’s too early to blow it up. But if you were to blow it up, you’ve lost your best trade chip. ERod was your best trade chip and now that his heart is damaged (even if it’s not permanent, crossing fingers), he’s not tradeable for 2020. Workman would be a great trade chip, but you’re assuming he’s going to be a dominant force and worthy of a trade. His track record coming into 2019 was not good, so he needs to prove he’s not a flash in the pan. If he isn’t, then he should return a pretty high ransom. Relievers in this sprint season will be very valuable, so I’d expect a few good prospects or maybe even a top 100 in return to restock the farm. Barnes needs to prove 2019 was a fluke. If he is crushing it at deadline time, dealing him would make tons of sense and should rebuild the farm. JD is a big time trade chip, although he comes with the uncertainty that he’d opt out, so teams looking for 2 more years of control would be wary of offering a lot. JBJ has a good first two games, but he’s going to need to stay relatively hot (for him) to be worth more than a flier by Aug 31.
  21. I don’t expect the season to have the plug pulled, beyond a major player complication like ERod, until the fall. My concern is that the playoffs won’t get off the ground
  22. If you’re going to reset and punt a season it is best to punt a 60 game, shortened, potentially shut down season, right? Now that games have started, the season will count and the Sox reset will be complete
  23. He’s going to need many, many tests to be allowed to play again. He’s going to get short of breath with exertion which is horrible for a professional pitcher
  24. That opens up the AL for the Yanks for sure
