  1. and let me just say, I hate McCarver and Buck. They suck
  2. Our players dont typically leave with angst. Our managers always do.
  3. CC hit 99mph on that foul ball. He is juiced and he looks okay today.
  4. We shall see. If he is a mirror image of Torre, then that certainly could be the case. I'd love to have Girardi out there.
  5. Well, here are my parting shots for Mr. Torre. GTFO!!! Just kidding. Many people on here know that I have been advocating Torre's removal since late 2004. So this is a LOOOOOONG time coming. And at the same time, people on here continue to say that there is no evidence for wanting him gone. Well, depends on where you look. #1- Look at the Yankee collapse vs the Red Sox in 2004. We had a 10.5 game lead in June and he was STILL burning out Quantrill and Gordon. So much so that they both faltered down the stretch and were integral in the collapse. That is still burned in my head. Watching Quantrill's 80mph fastball glide down the middle for the homer just makes me puke in my mouth a tiny bit. That yr we have a pen that wasnt all that great, but had 2 solid veteran MRs who were desperately overworked and didnt have to be. And this was not just one season, this was a trend that he continued over and over and over again. #2- Say what you want, but having the highest payroll and the best man for man team in the league 7 yrs running without winning a WS is enough for me anyway. Those are 2 things, the list continues on, but the most important one in my mind is the team he would have been getting next season. Consider this... Our rotation may have 3 rookies in it next yr. Our pen could have anywhere from 2-4 rookies in it next yr in my estimation. That being said, does anyone remember what Torre did to Edwar? Brought him up, had him throw 2 of the first 3 games he was in the majors for, then sat him for 13 days. 13. Then he brings him in with the game on the line against the DRays and he gets booed off the hill. The kid goes to his locker and cries after the game. Seriously, props to Edwar for having the stones to make it back, but this is status quo for torre. he picks his 2 or 3 guys to go to, burns them out, then uses the guys who are rusty. They go out, pitch like s*** and he doesnt use them again. This is what Torre does. And with the kind of arms that we will be seeing in the majors next season, we dont have that luxury. A. If Torre likes what he sees, he'll be taking those 23 and 24 yr old arms and use them until they break. Not especially useful when, if handled properly, they could be relievers in pinstripes for a long time. B. And the most important IMO is Torre's handling of the staff. Torre trusts no rookie and I can understand that philosophy. But he is paranoid of the guys. He has no issue with pulling a guy in the 5th when they are in the slightest bit of trouble. Eventually, the guys have to work out of it. And THEN, when they prove themselves, he will hang them out to dry. We dont need that. We are going to have young pitchers on both ends who need to be handled carefully, and that is just not who Joe Torre is. Hence, although I could name many times where Torre has killed us, both in season and in the post season, I think the biggest reason he needs to go is the personell of the team. It doesnt suit him and alot of drafting and prepping can be ruined by a guy like him. Enjoy retirement Joe.
  6. Maybe they will enjoy being managed appropriately. Jury is out on Donnie, but I like the prospects of Girardi. http://byetorre.ytmnd.com/
  7. it was a more than fair offer. I am happy it happened this way rather than just not giving an offer at all. But the Torre reign is over. Great successes overriding horrible in game management.
  8. AND IT GETS EVEN BETTER!!! Michael Kay is on his way out too!!! Sean McDonough was quoted on an XM interview as saying that he is in negotiations with YES to be their play by play guy. YIPPEEEEEE!!!
  9. lousy deal? he had the opportunity to make more than he made last yr. BTW.... http://www.theretrobaby.com/store/images/icouldpee.gif
  10. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07291/826354-63.stm Looks like he is a serious candidate for their manager position. Good for him if he takes it. He has gotten through to the pitching in Boston and has earned a shot.
  11. Hence why I gave him a TBD. Next yr is the big yr for him. His first yr over here with mixed results. Will he be a Javy Vazquez and just fall apart? Will he be a Josh Beckett and right the ship and turn into a dominant pitcher? Who knows. It is to be determined.
  12. so because CC Sabathia is fatiguing as well, it is okay for DiceK to do so? Not in my book. DMats was brought here as a Japanese phenom who was to take you guys to the playoffs and beyond. But he absolutely disappeared after the AS break and if the rest of your team wasnt white hot to begin the yr, he would have been blamed for your collapse. Imagine how he and the other flops (Drew and Lugo) would be getting murdered in the media if you didnt make the playoffs. Amazing how team success can overshadow a player's poor play in the eyes of the fans. Shall we go to the stats? Pre-AS- 10-6 3.84ERA 119.2IP 110H 12HR 123K/38BB 1.23WHIP Post AS- 5-6 5.19ERA 85IP 81H 13HR 78K/42BB 1.52WHIP More homers and walks in less innings. An ERA that jumped 1.35 runs per 9. A WHIP that jumped nearly 0.3. The guy has been absolutely awful since the break. SO to say that he is just missing is way off the mark. The guy is tired, and has been tired. Hell, he admitted he was tired like he had never been before and it shows. His fastball may be 94, but he is throwing it down the middle. His breaking stuff has gone from lights out to right down the middle. So to give the guy a TBD, you have to see where I am coming from. He is a big ego pitcher from a land where pride and honor is your #1 duty. He came here with the weight of a nation (RSN) on his shoulder and he failed miserably down the stretch. If it wasnt for a reclamation effort from Josh Beckett, DiceK's mug would have been on the front of SI weeping as the sox went home at the end of september. So no, I dont think you can call his season a success. Just to measure that, how much faith would you place in DMats should the sox get to game 7 of this series. Exactly. But hell yeah I'd want the guy on my team, no doubt. He has the stuff and maybe he will be able to overcome the league figuring him out, fatigue and the mental anguish that will come after failing miserably down the stretch. That is why his acquisition gets a TBD. Lots of factors need to be figured out before we know what kind of pitcher he will be over that contract. And as we know, 90% of the game is half mental.
  13. http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2005/03/the_mazzone_eff_1.php here is that article from 2 yrs back.
  14. ask Eric Bedard or Jeremy Guthrie
  15. I think he might benefit from having his arsenal cut down to be honest with you. He has been inconsistent at times with all of his pitches. If he was to master 2 breaking balls, a change and his fastball instead of having the screwball, splitter, forkball, slider, circle change, cutter and 2 other types of curves then he will be better off. If I were Farrell, I'd tall DiceK to keep the 4 seamer, curve, slider, circle change.
  16. also, example, the DiceK move gets a TBA from me right now. He has folded down the stretch and has shown equal parts fatigue and equal parts lack of confidence. If this is truly the end of his season, then I'd say that this season did not live up to expectations and that next yr will be the big yr for judging him.
  17. Crunch, if Cleveland silences the bats and wins this thing in 5, do you think Tito gets the axe?
  18. Multiple sources are reporting that Ron Guidry will most likely not be back as pitching coach of the Yankees. Likely replacements include Leo Mazzone and Dave Eiland. I have mixed feelings about who to replace him. I dont think Guidry was half bad, but I dont think he was half good either. As for Mazzone, the Mazzone effect has been studied and has borne out to a certain extent. I do not have the article that was done in 05, but it certainly showed a significant enough improvement in ERAs from pitchers coming into and then leaving Atlanta, and the names did not include Madduz, Glavine or Smoltz. His philosophy is simple, command the down and away fastball and work off of that. And for 3 solid rookies coming into the fold, living by that philosophy could go a long way towards making them effective for a long time. On the flip side, Dave Eiland has been very solid as well. All 3 of the kids worked with him this season and he seems to have a strong understanding of their mechanics. For example, Hughes struggled until Eiland came up to the bigs in September, and immediately there was improvement (and for those who watched Hughes throughout his development, his arm slot was brought back to what it was throughout the minors). So in terms of in house options, Eiland may be the best for what is going to be a very young staff on both the starting and relieving side. So overall, I'd like either choice. I'd have to give a slight edge to Mazzone in my book though since he has a well thought out philosophy and has proven his excellence especially when he has great talent to mold.
