  1. I can tell the difference. You guys are excited, but not "die with every pitch" excited like you were in 04. That win changed the entire mindset of new england. Now, the sox have a mindset of winning. How one championship changes things. For a team that was known for blowing it when the marbles were on the line, now the team is known for being clutch. Go figure. Either way, 2 in 4 yrs is impressive and you have the renewable pitching talent to be in this for awhile. Hence, why I want my team to follow your plan for once.
  2. The world series is a foregone conclusion. Enjoy it. This is quite possibly the biggest mismatch since the Yankees played the Padres in 98.
  3. that may be the last time you see Schill in a sox uniform.
  4. ME! Counsell, Luis Gonzalez, Mark Grace
  5. With Schilling being all you could ask for in the postseason while his stuff continues to leave much to be desired, do you re-up schilling for 08? 09 if he wants 2 yrs? Holley was talking about it today on EEI and said that if he pitched a gem (like he did), then he should be re-upped. Do you agree? It is an interesting dilemma borne out of a player who steps up when the bell rings on the postseason like clockwork. But does he have enough to play another full season? Is this the last gasp of a stellar and clutch career? Discuss...
  6. even when the Rockies get all they could ask for out of their pitching staff, they STILL couldnt hit an old, broken down Schilling. This series was over before it began. Colorado is probably the worst team to ever reach the WS. The WS this yr was really the ALCS.
  7. Sox in 7? In the I-Rockies dreams. This thing ends in Coors
  8. 02 oversaturation, lol. The one thing that people do over time when they live at higher altitudes is to have a slightly higher blood count. Thats about it. Increase carrying capacity. And yeah, the Rockies looked like deer in headlights. I am not arguing that the sox wont win this thing, cause they will in 5, I am just saying that when you live at a lower partial pressure of oxygen, athletic performance will fatigue a bit sooner. You may not feel it or it may be so small like ORS or like most baseball players who show there, but it is there.
  9. you guys are missing the point. He was ready to accept a 1 yr deal for 4.5mil in ST. He had an interesting regular season, but nothing in the postseason that changed anything and as we know, you are measured by postseason performance in NY. He was then offered a 5mil deal (note, raise of 500K) with incentives to make him double the initial deal offered in ST. And then he leaves saying he was insulted, when he was actually offered more than he would have accepted in ST after having a season that really wasnt one of his best.
  10. even if you have a deficiency as an adult. In my short time in the medical field, I have seen it ordered once, on a kid.
  11. Once again, the internet in the wrong hands can be a bad thing. Pitching does consist of short bursts. And those short bursts do eat up stores ATP. But if you continue to have many short bursts (like pitching in a game vs one throw), you will burn out your ATP stores VERY quickly and they need repletion. How do you replete those ATP stores most efficiently? Well, by oxidative phosphorylation, that is how. And what does oxidative phosphorylation require. DING DING DING DING. OXYGEN. And if you require more oxygen than you have available, what do you burn? That's right folks, Pyruvate. And what does that Pyruvate get converted to. DING DING DING. Lactate. I can show you the pathway if you want. And what does that Lactate do? It causes signs and symptoms of fatigure. Can you follow? Maybe not, I understand though. The internet only gets you so far.
  12. Go Rockies... Actually, I cant even pretend to think that this is gonna be a series. Can you just sweep them so we can get this season over with?
  13. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jon_heyman/10/23/scoop.tuesday/index.html The gist of the article is that Torre has negotiated a 4.5 mil, 1 yr offer in the ST of 2007 with Steve Swindal saying that he wanted to close out Yankee stadium. But before they could finalize the offer, Swindal got his DWI and subsequent divorce and dismissal from NYY. The Yankees, at the time, decided to hold off on all of their FAs, even Torre until this offseason. So come the offseason, he gets an offer that guarantees more $$$ than what he had negotiated with Swindal for the same length or even longer should he get to the WS and he turned it down saying he was insulted? And also, Heyman is correct in pointing out that Torre had incentives in his contract up until 2004 when Swindal gave him the bloated 6.4 mil per yr deal. Torre lied to everyone on this by spinning the disrespect card. The Yankees offered more guaranteed money, much more money in incentives and the possibility of turning the deal into a 2009 deal as well. Some insult. Thanks for the memories Joe, but you sucked late in your career and now you lie on your way out. See you in 5 yrs when you are inducted into the HOF, until then, good riddance.
  14. Hmm, yeah, that was a goof.
  15. this is absolutely false. Pitching is an anaerobic activity? The only anaerobic activity you perform is when your 02 demand exceeds its supply, then you shift your energy making capability from oxidative phosphorylation to lactate production from pyruvate. The lactic acid builds up which causes fatigue.
  16. Cano gives us an advantage over Santana? Without Cano, we depart in the ALDS this season. With Santana, we win the ALDS. Its that simple.
  17. I dont like 3 guaranteed yrs for a 37 yr old catcher, but the options externally suck and the ones internally wont be ready for 3 yrs, so we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. For Mo, 3 yrs is also a bit long, but more palatable.
  18. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/10/23/2007-10-23_mariano_rivera_joe_torres_exit_doesnt_me.html Mariano says that Torre's exodus will have no effect on his negotiations. he has changed his tune since being contacted by the Steinbrenners. No offer is ready, but the news is that the yankees will work hard to get an offer out to him prior to the WS ending. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/10/23/2007-10-23_yankees_likely_to_offer_jorge_posada_40_-2.html The Steinbrenner's met with Jorge's agent and the rumor is that Jorge will be offered a 3 yr deal worth 40 mil. Sounds like both will be yankees next yr barring something going totally wrong.
  19. It is all about oxygen delivery. There is a lower partial pressure of oxygen at that altitude, which leads to less 02 saturation and less Oxygen delivery. And when you are pitching, you are having 150 or so short, powerful bursts that require precise timing. The muscles get more tired at the higher altitude due to increased demand with less supply. I am not denying your experience, you just might have not noticed the difference. Some do, some dont. But the science is there to support me.
  20. But you have to deal something of value. They have already made their choice of which guy they are gonna shoot for retaining (rumor has it, the Twins and Hunter are very close). Santana is as good as gone. And I have a feeling they will deal him this offseason. That being said, there are only a few teams who will be in on the bidding. You figure Santana will warrant a 20mil per contract. So that in and of itself eliminates 20 teams. My worry is that we lowball the twins and then the sox trump us. I'd offer something they cannot trump without seriously hurting their team. Cano + 2 minor leaguers (Horne and Tabata). Ellsbury and Buchholz just dont have the resume of Cano and Cano is being billed as a potential .330 30HR guy. This is what the twins need. The only way the sox trump that is to completely wipe out their prospect bank (Buchholz, Lester, Ellsbury, +) or going to DPed or Paps which they wont move. My worry is that we offer Horne, Tabata, and another prospect and watch the sox toss Buchholz and Ellsbury and watch him, Beckett, and DMats lead the way to 4 or 5 WS championships.
  21. Pitching isnt a strenuous exercise? It is the most strenuous thing you can do on a baseball field.
  22. I'd be alright with a deal centered around Cano, but they should expect another MLBer if they get him. Maybe Tabata and Horne.
