  1. Players typically recover fully in 2-3 months. He'll be fine by ST with likely no ill effects.
  2. either that or you are an apologist for Lowrie. But lets not consider that you could be wrong.
  3. Teagarden for Pauley. I can see it now, lol. Why would anyone want Pauley?
  4. I dont think they can until June 1.
  5. there is a difference between throwing a pitch and considering it useful in an arsenal. Masterson has the perfect 1-2 punch for relief. The sox dont have the holes in the rotation for Masterson, yet they dont want to waste his arm. What does that leave you? With Masterson in the pen in 09. That is where he will be and where he projects to be.
  6. You also have to look at what he projects as, though. Masterson is a short arsenal pitcher who hit a huge wall late. Dont get me wrong, his short arsenal sounds solid, but he has setup/MR written all over him. You dont deal the guy you gave up Tex + 2 others for, to get a light hitting CFer and a prospect who projects to middle relief.
  7. and that "other prospect" would have to be named Buchholz. It isnt that I think Salty is worth all that much. But looking at what he was acquired for makes the Rangers morons for even considering moving him. I for one think Salty projects as an average to below average defender with major power. We havent seen a catcher hit for 40 homer power in a long time (Piazza or Hundley as Mets were last if I remember correctly) and he has it stamped on his forehead.
  8. Kilo, most scouts and baseball pundits agree with talies here and I agree also. Cabrera is a terrible 3b to start with. He is also a terrible LFer. And will probably be a poor 1b. That being said, there is no doubting Miguel Cabrera's been a disruption this past season. He was nearly suspended for showing up late. And can anyone doubt the weight this guy has put on? He's 23, so this isnt like Jeter or ARod putting on muscle over their yrs as their age creeps into the thirties. And in looking at him, the guy has put on a ton of fat. http://images.art.com/images/products/large/10131000/10131165.jpg http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2007/06/02/AikPXRdh.jpg At the rate he is going, he will be a 1b or DH.
  9. Lowrie doesnt grade out as a MLB SS. He could fill in in a pinch, but I highly doubt the sox have him pegged as their future SS. My guess is that the sox are putting out feelers on him and to a lesser extent, Pedroia. If they could land Miguel Cabrera with a package centered around Pedroia, then you might be seeing Lowrie start the yr as the sox 2b. But I dont see the sox going that route after seeing how vital that kid was to the team.
  10. I am very surprised this is all it took. If that was the case, hell I would have loved to have taken a flier.
  11. Girardi wants him. The problem has been with management this past yr. He apparently showed up late or skipped meetings. And then, he has put on 60-70 pounds since breaking into the league. That sounds like a work ethic problem that will become tougher to overcome once his body slows down.
  12. Salty was a major piece used to acquire Teixeira. I have a hard time believing the Rangers deal him without getting something significant. Coco and Masterson arent nearly enough.
  13. THE HAMMER RETURNS. Long time no speak Ham the Man, how are ya?
  14. If youk didnt get it, someone should be sued. He had solid range and made zero errors. No brainer.
  15. Bedard has 2 yrs left. Kazmir has 3. These guys are hitting the market now because both have controllable yrs left. And just like Santana, lefty aces are hard to come by. That being said, with 2+ years left, they have a ton of value. While Santana's one yr has less. It is much easier for a team that is one piece away to wait one season to open the bidding with solely money.
  16. and Kazmir wont?
  17. Example. Seriously buddy, chill out a bit. If I was going totally off hype, I'd be telling you that my teams rotation was set to be AWESOME RIGHT NOW, LOOK AT THESE ROOKIES BAH!!! I am excited for them, but know that they wont make a seamless transition. No rookie does. Their first full yr is usually filled with injury, inconsistency, some solid outings and some miserable ones. Not necessarily the stalwart performances that scream success early on. And for every pitching prospect who meets the hype, 1 has his career decimated by injury and another disappoints. But in my situation, the yankees rotation is so shallow that watching these rookies develop seems like the most prudent idea since we dont have an ace and one of these three kids MIGHT be one for yrs to come. But you guys already have an ace. And if you could deal Buchholz for ANOTHER one, you do it every day of the week. Beckett, Santana, DiceK, Schilling, Lester? Talk about a top 4 with current and future success. That would be dominant.
  18. The Papi Manny combo is the best 3-4 punch since Ruth and Gehrig. It will be nearly impossible to replace their production when they are done. And yes, the window is closing on them. But a better way to keep that window open is to even out the lineup and add Santana to the rotation.
  19. that gets a couple snickers and a dial tone when you propose that to Minny.
  20. I liked the SNL skit on ARod. For any team with money to burn and no interest in winning.
  21. That "was" their mantra. Chamberlain, Hughes and Kennedy are proof that there has been a change of philosophy.
  22. If Santana goes to the FA market, there is absolutely ZERO way he dons a uniform other than a yankee one unless he absolutely has no interest in NY. You can bet the yankees would offer 25mil a yr for him. I'd take him over Peavy any day of the week.
  23. example, I guess the point is that there is a window for multiple championships. You can walk right past it and be set up for long term success, but still be close enough to the rest of the league to get knocked off. Or you can open it right up and burn a bit of long term success to make yourselves the FAR AND AWAY favorites for the next 3-4 yrs. Getting Santana would guarantee you guys 2-3 more championships based solely on the young 3 headed monster you could throw out there every 5 days and then to start off a playoff series. Not getting him and keeping status quo only guarantees you success, with a good shot at anoter ring.
