  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3647638 Finally, they got it right. Dont f*** with this kid or you risk losing one of the best young pitching talents in all of baseball. Groom him to start, build up the arm and skip some starts down the stretch or convert him to pen work for the postseason. Dont flop back and forth
  2. we booed him in 05 when he blew a few saves vs the sox
  3. Talent, some experience, and health are three things that will win the Rays the AL banner this yr. Take a look at the team the sox and yankees could put together with players who missed significant time, disappointed or clearly were injured. C- Posada- labrum 1B- Casey- neck 2B- Cano- underachieved SS- Lugo- quad 3B- Lowell- hip LF- Matsui- knee CF- Ellsbury/Melky platoon- underachieved RF- Drew- back DH- Ortiz- wrist and knee SP- Beckett- elbow, back and oblique SP- Wang- foot SP- Buchholz- underachieved SP- Hughes- rib fracture SP- Chamberlain- shoulder RP- Albaladejo- elbow fracture RP- Bruney- Foot injury RP- Timlin- underachieved that team would win a playoff spot with a closer and with some health.
  4. I played with Pena's cousin out of Haverhill. Similar swings, except his cousin missed a whole lot more than Pena does.
  5. Kazmir is gonna have to be a magician tonight. His control is non existant and his slider is still suspect
  6. I agree. The SS market has the same reruns with the only big name being Furcal, who is coming off an injury filled yr. AND, the sox have Lugo under contract who has zero trade value. I think you'll see Lugo and Lowrie split time. The catching pool is even worse. IRod is the best C on the market and he's awful.
  7. The late 70s yankees hated each other and hated Reggie, but his bat was a big factor in their winning 2 WS
  8. Ellsbury gets into ruts where he starts to think he's a power hitter. When he puts the ball on the ground and takes some pitches, he's not only effective, but deadly. You hope that a player like him will learn with age that his job is to get on base, not to drive in runs. Once he figures that out, he'll be good. And using Melky as a comparison is a poor choice. They both sucked this yr, thats about the only parallel. Gardner and Ellsbury are better comps.
  9. He's a greedy prick, but he once again showed that when he is on, there arent too many better than him. I remember his numbers when he was traded and they were solid, but not spectacular. His overall #s for this yr were sick and his playoff #s were ridiculous. He's a greedy prick, but he is one hell of an offensive force and I would love to see him in a yankee uniform. Whomever signs him will likely get a few yrs of solid production. His bat hasnt slowed down one bit.
  10. I am okay with Pettitte coming back under the following conditions. The medicals work out. IE, a physical, another MRI, etc. His uncharacteristic explosion post ASB has me concerned about an injury. But if they are certain that is not the case, then sign him. And Pettitte cannot go into the yr in our top 3. We have seen the sox and the rays pass us by in the division mostly based upon the strength of their rotation and the fact that their guys took the bump a lot more than ours did. We need to have 4 reliable starters while leaving that 5 slot to Joba or Hughes. If we resign Moose and Pettitte on 1 yr deals, then I am perfectly fine with one more signing. And maybe it isnt CC, and that's okay. But we cannot afford to go into the yr with Wang, Moose, Pettitte and then having the last 2 slots settled by rooks. It just cannot happen for a second yr in a row
  11. not forever. Just for the rest of the post season. That oblique isnt going to heal without a good 6 weeks of rest
  12. Here's what I think of the swap. With Beckett being awful and injured, teaming him up with Kazmir is a great way to ensure that there is a slugfest at hand. By moving Kaz to game 5, I think Maddon is actually conceding the game knowing that Kazmir isnt right at this point.
  13. have a good night all, time to go to work
  14. Mike Timlin http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/graphics/info/shared/BG_baseball_pitching_machine.gif
  15. Carl Crawford is en fuego
  16. Timlin is just plain awful
  17. this is true. But Price being around kinda negates that. I do agree though, they got a TON of innings out of their top 5, and that wont happen again
  18. yes I do. It would be one hell of a story. And I think they'll snap back to mediocrity next yr, so this is their run.
  19. Until the sox are good and dead, you cannot count them out. Although this team does not look like a team with any sort of life
  20. without the trophy, all you get is a participation certificate
  21. 3 for 3 this season with Papi, Schilling and Lowell.
  22. the rays are considering moving Kazmir up to game 5. That would set up a Shields -Beckett matchup which would be a massive mismatch
  23. One of the things we are taught is that the tendon sheath in the wrist and hand is very closely approximated to the tendon and it is very unlikely that you have an isolated sheath injury without having damaged the tendon. I have said before that with surgery, these things do pretty well. Its getting the timing and the confidence in the wrist back that is the biggest factor. I have always said that his knees will be his undoing. I expect the wrist to be near 100% by the start of ST.
