  1. True, I should have made that a caveat. Now, they could cheat the system and alternate them on DL stints, skip a start and then have them throw a "rehab" start in AAA before being activated. But that gets murky and would be a very easy way for the union and the commish to get angry at the team.
  2. prior to 07, you are right. But 07-08 he has shown a significant dropoff in power and patience making him less desireable. Consider this, in his last 3 full yrs in Philly, his IsoPatience was .119, .127, .109. FOr 07 and 08, his IsoPatience was .086 and .079. His last 3 full yrs in Philly, his IsoPower was .168, .243, and .188. In NY for 07 and 08, .162 and .175. His 2 OPS's in NY for 07 and 08 of .814 and .842 were the 2 lowest totals of his entire career. Abreu was a great addition to this team and I loved what he did for us out of the 3 hole. But he was not the same player in NY as he was in Philly. If he was, we wouldnt have let him walk for nothing. Nady, OTOH, put up an .867 OPS last yr. And while most of that was due to a power surge, he did out slug and out OPS Abreu. And Swisher, who comes off an abysmal 2008 in CWS, consistently showed the power and patience of his time in Oakland. His BABIP was much lower than it should have been (.249) and potentially points to an unlucky season. When he is on, Swisher is a .120 IsoPatience guy and a .200 IsoPower guy. I think we'll be able to replace him.
  3. I am more optimistic about Hughes than most. He has very good stuff and when he is on his game, he strikes out a ton of hitters and has solid control. We rushed him, though, and that is not what he needed. I hope he spends almost all of 09 in AAA. Works on perfecting the changeup and the location for the tighter curveball and then wins the competition for the last 2010 rotation slot
  4. I thought you hated Tony Mazz?
  5. its a posting style
  6. How would you work that though? Would you skip starts? Would you intersperse starts between Hughes and Chamberlain? Once sent down, you cannot call that same player up again for 15 days. So, you go three MLB starts, then send him down to skip a start and throw 2 starts, then bring him up? I doubt it. I expect the yankees to skip Chamberlain every chance they get. They already moved him back so CC could start. But they only have 4 off days in the first two months, so moving him back is gonna be tough to do. But I am sure they could do it. I bet they could have a low pitch count for the first month and then work his way up.
  7. The offensive prospects have started out well sans a couple Taylor Grote 3/7 with a double Ray Kruml 5/12 with 2 steals Almonte 4/11 a triple and a steal Angelini 4/13 2 doubles Adams and Lassiter (3/18 total) have started slowly DJ Mitchell was dominant and he shouldnt stay in Charleston long 6IP 1H 0ER 0BB 6K Andrew Brackman had a solid first 3 innings, but fell apart in the 4th. Overall, his line was poor 5IP 5H 5ER 3BB 5K Manny Banuelos, the highly touted lefty INTL signee from Mexico, who is one of the youngest players in the league had a hell of a debut. BTW, he just turned 18 in March. 4.2IP 3H 1ER 6K 0BB as he ramps up his IP
  8. good to see it isnt serious
  9. 3 games in Hilligoss, Fryer, and Laird start out well Hilligoss 3/8 with a double Fryer 4/12 triple, walk Laird 4/13 and a double Montero has been mediocre. 3/12 a homer and 2 walks Romine, Maruszak, Sublett and Krum have started slowly As for the pitching... Dellin Betances continues to show his improved control 6IP 3H 1ER 2BB 7K Jeremy Bleich had an ok debut for Tampa, but he'll need to improve on it 4.2IP 6H 2ER 2BB 4K Wilkins de la Rosa is due to start either Sunday or Monday. Jairo Heredia is on the DL
  10. 3 games in Chris Malec starts out on fire, 5/8 3BB Eduardo Nunez also played well. 6/16 1BB 1SB Colin Curtis has started slowly. 3/13 a double and 2 walks Reegie Corona and Francisco Cervelli have started slowly (combined 2/22) Hacker, McCallister and Kontos started strongly Hacker 5.1IP 6H 1ER 1BB 2K McCallister 5IP 4H 1ER 2BB 2K Kontos 5IP 7H 1ER 1BB 8K Michael Dunn in relief 2IP 4H 1ER 5K
  11. 3 games in, here are some highlights Juan Miranda is on fire. 6/13 2 doubles, 2 homers, 2 walks, 9RBI Austin Jackson is hitting well. 6/13 triple and a walk Ian Kennedy threw a gem yesterday. 6IP 4H 1ER 11K 0BB SWB relief has been spotless. Melancon 2 perfect innings with 3K Claggett 4.1IP 4H 0ER 0BB 6K Robertson, 2IP 1H 3K Cox, Jackson, and Kroenke combined for 5 scoreless innings. Aceves had a rough outing today Hughes is supposed to go tomorrow
  12. remember, he has a lot of wear on the tires over the past few yrs. If you dont need to have him throw an extra 1.2IP in a game that is well in hand, then you let him sit.
  13. Girardi needs to be able to say no
  14. THe only way I could explain it is pitch count. Thats it. It otherwise makes no sense this early in the yr
  15. his pitch count must have been 110
  16. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING GIRARDI!!!!
  17. his changeup was completely nasty today
  18. 7IP 6H 0ER 0BB 2HBP 6K Solid, solid performance for CC
  19. I love this swisher guy
  20. I wouldnt be opposed to Pena at SS and Jeter at 3b
  21. Nady's bat looks a little slow
  22. Do I need to specify absolutely everything. Its a hell of a lot easier to say he's keeping the ball down. Obviously, if he's throwing 98 over the letters when ahead in the count, thats good. But 98 over the plate belt high doesnt get the job done. Thats leaving the ball too high in the zone. So yes, CC is hitting the corners more with his fastball and is not leaving it down the middle as much. But I say that a ball down the middle is too high IMO. Live at the knees, go up when you want to. Dont leave the ball up, read as dont leave the ball down the middle
  23. look at the amount of pitches right down the middle in the second chart and compare it to the one from today
  24. See ORS, maybe I just need to point things out to you more often. I was implying that he isnt leaving every ball up like he was in his last start
