  1. He's 24. He has hit 27 homers in under 3/4 of a season. He can play both 3rd and 1st. And he is hitting for more power thus far this yr. Guys like that do not come cheap. Thing between him and Buchholz is that Davis has proven he can be a middle of the order bat for the big squad. Buchholz has proven he handles minor leaguers but has had trouble in the bigs. We arent talking about a one yr rental in his mid 30s.
  2. He was sitting 92+. They didnt give a max. He typically sits in the 92-94 range and maxes at 96.
  3. there have been rumors, especially in the off season that the Sox asked about the price for Salty. The Rangers GM named 3 players of which he'd take one. You know the three. Theo hung up the phone.
  4. he was maxing out at 91 in those starts. Something obviously was off.
  5. So, breaking it down Salty for Bowden --- check How bout Buchholz and MDC for Davis Those two are value for value deals.
  6. According to Rotoworld, Wang is set for a return to the bigs for his next start. If you march it out, Friday would be the date of return. That would push Burnett, Pettitte and CC back a day and likely move Hughes down. No confirmation out of yankee camp and as of right now, Burnett is still labelled as Friday's starter. Velocity reports on Wang had him consistently in the 92+ range, which would make one believe that the weakness in his lower extremities has been fixed.
  7. it would be a solid trade for the sox. There is no way in God's green earth that Davis for MDC/Penny/1 other prospect not names Lars is enough for Davis. No way. You undervalue him significantly.
  8. I would have picked him earlier, but I didnt check and assumed he was picked. He's good. Reminds me of Radke. Great control, has the FB if he wants it and can pinpoint some good offspeed offerings. If he throws like he did last game and Gardenhire doesnt leave him out there to the wolves in the 7th and 8th innings, he has an outside chance at 20 wins. He was impressive against a good lineup.
  9. That would be quite a package, but I still wouldnt think it was enough. Think about it this way. The catcher spot has become the holy grail of prospect-dom over the past few yrs. It used to be SS's, then it was CFer's for a short while, then it was pitchers, and now its catchers. It always seems to follow wherever the dearth of talent at the MLB level is. And right now, there just arent enough quality catchers to tip the scales in favor of that position. That being said, Teagarden and Salty are probably two of the three most highly touted MLB ready catching prospects in baseball (Wieters being the other). Getting either of them will cost a Bowden, Buchholz or Masterson. Thats a given. Then onto Chris Davis, who is a 1b/3b who is 23 and hits the ball a mile. He's already had a solid MLB season last yr with his .880OPS and he's showing more power this yr with 10 homers already. So you are talking about Penny and MDC plus another prospect for him? That's not enough unless that other prospect was Lars, especially since Penny has next to no worth and he cannot be dealt until June 15th anyway since he was a FA signee.
  10. While thought of writing off Kottaras may be premature at this juncture, there is a very real possibility that he could be DFAd within the next few months. Why's that? Because the sox are gonna need to bring in a catcher that can hit to supplant Vtek. If not this season, then shortly into the offseason. Vtek started off pretty well. April line of .250/.348/.533 was what the doctor ordered. But most of that OPS was generated off SLG and 7 of Vteks first 11 hits went for extra bases. Since May 1, though, Vtek has come back to earth. .208/.273/.354. If he has another month like this one, then the sox are going to need to replace him. And they'd do that by trading for one of the Ranger's catchers or nabbing Montero from the swooning DBacks. That would DFA Kottaras, ensure Vtek was splitting time with the newly acquired and then eschew Vtek into free agency again after this yr. This is clear. The sox dont have an in house candidate able to handle the starting catching duties in 2010. They will have to look outside of the org. And with Bowden, Masterson, and Buchholz pitching well, they have the correct currency to make such a swap.
  11. Kila is a AAAA player if I ever saw one.
  12. Once he starts showing you something, Bowden wont be enough for him. Thats the issue. Nobody knows if Bowden will translate that dominance into dominance at the MLB level. Just like nobody is certain that Salty will start connecting for power and further a history of patience into true production on the field. This is what you get when you deal a prospect for a prospect.
  13. The sox will have to make a decision soon. Buchholz, Masterson and Bowden are all ready for the big time. After this yr, 2 rotation slots open and one big fish is out there in Lackey. The question is, do they ship one of them to Texas for Saltalamacchia or Teagarden now before their stock drops, or do they keep all 3 and see if they can settle into the rotation. As we saw with the yankees, giving two spots in one offseason to relatively unproven young starters could be devastating. It will be an interesting dilemma for the sox.
  14. and nobody is beating Cleveland IMO
  15. Minus Garnett and Powe, the C's did not have the size to match up with Howard in the middle. They had game 6, they let it get away and finally the real Magic showed up. Turkoglu was lights out tonight. Add to that the poor shooting and this team was done. Good season. Next yr, they need to focus on playoffs from day 1 and make sure they have a healthy squad. Cause with Garnett, this series was over in 6.
  16. Thats the rumor set by rotoworld. That would likely move Masterson to the pen, a guy who had been the sox second most reliable starter.
  17. I dont think he overmanaged anything. As a matter of fact, his moves worked like a charm in the 8th, when we should have taken the lead. His team couldnt come through vs Brett Tomko in a bases loaded, 1 out spot. They deserved to lose.
  18. Stephon Marbury, the embedded knick, destroys the C's hopes
  19. Mark Reynolds 3B Diamondbacks
  20. You cannot put it all on Green. The sox had the bases loaded and no outs and a few other leadoff batters in scoring position. They sucked on this road trip. Their rotation had been inconsistent, the pen continues to be gold, but when the offense slows, the sox cannot win. This is why you need to get more out of your rotation. The last 2 games have been good in that capacity. But when you continually hand a deficit to your pen and ask your lineup to score and your pen to hold them scoreless, eventually, you will lose.
