  1. We definitely are on a hot streak right now, which is great. We obviously wont stay this hot. That being said, the pen is coming together really nicely, something that is allowing these leads to remain and our starters are starting to give more depth. Since the ASB, Mitre is the only guy not to go through 6 even though he did get into the 6th. The offense is providing timely hits as well. And the cool thing is, the first 3 were vs Detroit, so at least we handled a good team.
  2. 2 for 5 a double, 2 RBI. This guy gets white hot, then ice cold, then white hot again. Streaky at 19 in AA.
  3. I dont think so Dojji. Lowell needs another procedure. He has something in that hip causing inflammation ie fluid. My guess is that he played with that hip injury for quite some time and may have arthritis. Rest doesnt make that go away
  4. Scutaro will not be a type A. He'd be lucky to be a type B. Remember, it is based on the last TWO yrs, and his 2008 had an OPS under .700
  5. Just heard him say it on WEEI. The question was based upon an article written by Nick Cafardo talking about the sox state of affairs after their 1-2 combo of Beckett and Lester. Lucchino agreed, saying that the sox are looking for pitching upgrades, especially in the wake of Timmy going to the DL. He also said that the Blue Jays are absolutely reluctant to deal Halladay in division and that their asking price to do so is significantly higher than it is for teams outside the division. Just food for thought on the Cafardo article. Outside of Beckett and Lester, here are the sox rotation numbers.... 56GS 313IP 371H 179ER 107BB 216K 5.15ERA 1.53WHIP and a 6.2K/9IP He uses the ERA as a figure and then subtracts out Wakefield, which brings that ERA closer to 6. Regardless, the stats have confounders, like DiceK's early performance, but they also include Masterson's efforts which lower the above numbers significantly.
  6. sox are now 2.5 games up on the Rangers for the WC
  7. It is obvious the sox offense wont stay this cold. And it is obvious the sox offense was not as good as they were in April. The question is, what kind of offensive team are they? Well, Ellsbury is sitting at a BA of .290, Youkilis at .303 and Pedroia at .301. Everyone else is under .290. Lowell is at .289, Bay at .254, Drew at .236, Lowrie under .200, Vtek and Papi in the .230 range. Something would have to give.
  8. 5 straight games, the sox mustered a total of 6 runs in 3 games at Texas. The offense is ice cold.
  9. you know thats how its gonna happen
  10. Dustin Nippert, really? Wow, the sox have hit rock bottom, no matter what they do vs the Rangers pen
  11. That lineup is full of win right there. The bottom three are priceless and Drew in the 6 hole has been just nasty lately /sarcasm. Nippert sucks and has faced the sox before. I expect this to be a bloodbath
  12. you may not like him and you may not want him. That is your opinion and I respect that. But dont try to take that innate dislike and try to paint him as anything but the player he is. He is a really good player. I understand not being a fan of Nady as he has been a fringe guy until 2007. I thought he was going to have an impact on 2009 while you thought he was gonna be terrible. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to prove either of us right, cause nobody could predict that he'd blow out his UCL throwing a ball in from the OF.
  13. Duncan has followed the path of his brother. Too powerful for AAA, too useless for MLB
  14. So once Dutchy got banned, you decided to take the dumbass title of the forum. Jeez. Bay is a good to great offensive player, period. He's a middle of the order bat. Just cause he is mired in a ridiculous slump does not mean you can make conclusions based on that one small stretch of his career.
  15. Well, it is an armchair move because you cannot be proven right or wrong. Nobody knew he'd blow out his UCL and need Tommy John. Its not like he's here and underachieving.
  16. Right now they do, thats for sure. But I will say this. The O's of 3 yrs ago would be trying to sign every scrap heap veteran around to pitch. This yr, they decided to do things right. Bergeson, Berken, and David Hernandez will all be useful major league pitchers. Tillman and Matusz in the minors are future studs. And currently, they have Guthrie and Hill trying to iron things out, two guys who could be very useful when they are on. The O's are embracing a full out rebuild, which is something they havent done in a long time. They were the team who would trade a top player for 3 rookies, then sign 2 veterans to big money when it was obvious the team was way behind in terms of contention in this division. If they play their cards right and get some solid prospects for Huff, Scott, and Sherrill this trade deadline, they could be a Tampa Bay Ray redux in 3-5 yrs.
  17. you wont need mojo. Padilla is exactly what the doctor ordered as in a straight fastball guy and Buchholz is new to the Rangers so he should give them some trouble. I bet the sox win tonight
  18. Thats the thing about LaRoche. He's 29, so its not like he's going to break out and be a 1.000OPS guy. Hell, he isnt even average when it comes to his position. But, getting a guy who will likely have an OPS from .770 and .850 is useful however you slice it. Especially when LaRoche has a history of being better in the second half and Lowell has an injury and a history of sucking in the second half. I would disagree with someone who calls this an over the top move. This is not, because LaRoche is not starting off the bat and is not an upgrade over Lowell offensively. But it is a good contingency move if Lowell goes down. Cause the downgrade from Lowell to LaRoche is a hell of a lot less than the downgrade from Lowell to Bates
  19. Hughes-Rivera then ballgame. Great combo
