  1. Didnt see a thread here, but I must say, Jordan was probably the most dominant player in any sport that I will ever see. His ability to rise up at any time and just take over a game on the offensive or defensive side was epic. And the fact that he retired and then came back to win 3 more titles is a testament to his ability. He had the flash, the speed, the shot, the hands, everything. If any of you were too young to really enjoy his efforts, then I hope you get a chance to watch a few of his best performances in their entirety. Cause he was something else. And this is all coming from someone who rooted against him for the most part. That being said, it is sad that he is no longer part of the game. And he definitely deserves the honor of being inducted into the HOF as quite possibly the best that has ever played. Thoughts?
  2. not initially, and not this yr. For a 3 yr span he was a statue
  3. Cmon now. Lets all be serious. It isnt all about OPS. Its the entire package. And only a very few players outshone Jeter in the total package.
  4. Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Berra, Ford.
  5. I agree Jaybay
  6. But right now, they need to get to the playoffs. They are only two games up in the WC.
  7. There will be pandemonium when he breaks the record. They wont get off their feet for 5-10 mins. This is a pretty significant record. Being the all time hits leader in the best franchise in the history of sports is a pretty big deal.
  8. Magic Number to win the division = 14
  9. Wake is getting another cortisone shot tomorrow
  10. This yankee team is amazing
  11. Pena also has 37 homers and 100 RBI to go along with a higher OBP and a much better defender.
  12. Jeter has tied the record. This guy is awesome
  13. why is ramirez facing Markakis with wagner ready?
  14. Swisher walks off. 90-50. This team is ridiculous
  15. The trend is definitely down and should be expected to be down. This is Joba's first exclusively starting season since his time in college. He will surpass all innings marks he has ever seen. And, he will build off this season. He has been exactly what I predicted and expected him to be. A rookie, dealing with the grind of a full season. He's had runs where he's been lights out. He's had runs (and is currently enduring one) of having no control. This is expected and I expect him to improve off of it in 2010. That being said, for 2009, Joba can slip into the background for a bit since Pettitte is pitching so damn well. The Yankees will likely get the choice of the 8 or 7 game setup for the ALDS. In the 8 game setup, the yankees could start everyone on full rest until game 5, where Burnett or Pettitte would be asked to go on 3 days rest with the full complement of pitchers at the ready should he fail. The only games that Joba would be absolutely pencilled in for would be the Game 4's in the ALCS and WS should we get that far. That means, that these petty "rules" are really designed to get Joba ready for 2010 and beyond rather than this season. And I am on board with that.
  16. I think this is a good deal for the franchise overall, but a tough deal to swallow for a team with SB aspirations in 2009.
  17. Greinke has been the best and in a world that is just and fair, he would win it. But remember, we are talking about the same people who voted Rafael Palmeiro as a gold glover when he played 32 games in the field in one season. Voters like to pick guys from relevant teams, and Greinke is on the most irrelevant team in the AL.
  18. I agree. It is difficult to vote for a guy on the worst team in the AL even if he is the one with the best peripherals. CC and Verlander should get a lot of votes, but neither have been that head and shoulders dominant throughout the yr. This is the kind of yr that opens the door for a reliever. And when you consider the career of Mo, the fact that NYY is the best team in baseball and how lights out the yanks have been this yr when leading after 7 innings (especially since May) you gotta think Mo will get a lot of votes. 39/40 Sv/SvOp, 35 saves in a row since April 24th, 1.74ERA 0.90WHIP and 61K in 55IP should garner a lot of votes. That being said, the yankees will likely be on cruise control in a week or two and Mo might not get to 50 saves, something he likely would have if there was a fight for the division.
  19. Might be time to start putting Mariano in that conversation since nobody is head and shoulders above the field a la Cliff Lee last yr or the two headed race of CC and Beckett in 2007. Mariano's 2008 was even better, but the team sucked. This yr, he's blown one save (f'ing Bay) in April and has been perfect since.
  20. Burnett's stuff looks really good as usual, and when he's missing, he seems to be just off the plate. Even though there are more baserunners than I'd like, the worm may be turning in terms of AJ. Now, all he has to do is pitch with a lead. 8-1 on an 8 run inning in the 3rd. This team is just rolling. If we finish this off, we'd be 89-50, 39 games over, which would be a high water mark, and we'd only need to go 11-12 to finish at 100 wins. And, with a win tonight, the magic number drops to 15
  21. I just read a short segment on Lowrie potentially staying in the minors for September and not being activated. Dont have the link though. But I really think that Lowrie's chances are running short in Boston
