  1. Sorry, it was the AL. Colorado is the only team with a higher percentage http://zellspinstripeblog.com/2009/08/02/the-yanks-have-homegrown-players/
  2. BTW, does anyone know that the Yankees of 2009 had the most home-grown players on it than any other team?
  3. I believe Jackson has been a 4 star prospect across the board. Also, Jackson didnt have an abysmal season. Good BA, pretty good OBP, solid speed, but his power disappeared. Like I said, a lot can happen to top notch prospects across levels and he fits into that category.
  4. I am just messing with you bosox
  5. I disagree. I think Lowell's worth has made a lateral move. He proved that offensively, he isnt phased by the hip. But defensively, he is a statue. He's proven that he can be a DH
  6. I have already said that he isnt ready. There is a reason why there are lots of minor league levels. They are all proving grounds. Westmoreland looks great right now, but we all saw what can happen as players cross levels (see Anderson, Lars). And one stalled season drops your stock so damn much. I still think Lars is gonna be really good. But it is funny how he went from being a 5 star prospect to a 3 star prospect after one poor season
  7. Westmoreland is a hell of a prospect. But hold onto your shorts for a second. He hasnt even played long season yet. I am surprised BP is hyping a kid like him so much seeing as he didnt play any long season ball ever. He sounds like he has a hell of a skillset. But skillset and application are two different things. Lets see if he can continue to hit and stay healthy in A ball this yr before he's annointed as the next big CFer for Boston
  8. Robertson is sneaky. He throws a FB in the 91-94 range but guys swing like its 100 and his curve is filthy. I liked seeing a change from him this yr. I think he can do it. He doesnt need to be Hughes good. He just needs to provide enough of a bridge to get the ball to Mo with any sort of lead
  9. Is that a problem? I think moving Youkilis to 3b improves his value and opens a hole at a more easily replaceable position that typically has better offensive potential. Having a 3b who can OPS over .900 and play good D is better than a 1b who plays very good D and can OPS over .900.
  10. If you actually read what I wrote instead of just slamming it constantly, you can see exactly what I am talking about. I have consistently stated that a good rotation has 3 reliable pitchers on it. You need to have 3 guys who you can count on to throw 30+ times a yr. The other two spots can be a combination of dependability, injury liability, promise, etc. Right now, NY has two reliable guys in it with CC, and AJ. The Red Sox have Lester and Beckett. I am absolutely positive that we get one reliable pitcher for our 3 hole, either Lackey or Pettitte. I am not sure that the sox are making any improvements in the rotation. If they get a guy who is reliable to slot into that 3 hole, then I think they'll be fine. If they dont then its a crap shoot.
  11. He may or may not be. I bet you that Robertson gets the chance IMO. He looked really good this yr. Really frickin good.
  12. In terms of who we get for the bullpen, I am okay with who we already have. Mariano closing Aceves in the swing role. Robertson slides to setup. Marte, if he is healthy can be a setup man. He was lights out in the post season Bruney will be an option Mark Melancon will end up having an important role with the team by the end of the yr, IMO. Phil Coke will be an option, but I dont know if he makes the team if his stuff doesnt come back Then there's the standard retreads of Ramirez, Albaladejo, etc. Then there are the other young bucks who could be an option in Duff, Dunn, Kennedy, McAllister, etc. There are going to be options. I dont have a problem with an improvement here or there. But I do think we have enough talent internally to have a good pen. The question is, how long will it take to secure a good pen. Last yr, it took a month to find the right combo. Will it be the same this yr?
  13. I am okay with Hughes' rules as long as nobody else is on any innings limit. And, Hughes needs to be the #5 by default due to the innings limits. The strength of our rotation will be the top 3 IMO. CC, AJ and either Pettitte or Lackey. And we need to make a decision for good on Chamberlain. I think he ends up as our #4 starter with no innings limits. People seem to think he was a complete and total bust as a starter in NY. But look at the numbers from Joba prior to when they started monkeying with him. Before: 126.2IP 123H 56ER 62BB 109K 3.97ERA 1.46WHIP After: 30.2IP 44H 27ER 14BB 24K 7.92ERA 1.89WHIP The before numbers actually look a lot like Burnett. ERA around 4, WHIP in the 1.4 range, and K/9 close to 8 or higher. Now, Burnett was a lot more durable, but Joba was also in his first full yr of starting in the AL East. I did notice the stuff difference, but at the same time, he never "lost" the heat. He just seemed to save it for a little later. So NY has to make their decision. Joba has a good start and a terrible finish. Was he just tired? Maybe. Is he better as a reliever? Well, all young players fare better in shorter stints, so that isnt really a good barometer since we probably expect to see Joba around in pinstripes for awhile.
  14. If you go into the yr with that pitching staff, your bullpen will be the strength of the staff and you better make some sacrifices to God, Allah or whomever you believe in that the rotation stays intact and effective.
  15. I agree. I hate Scutaro as a long term option. He sucked up until this past yr and he's gonna be looking for 3 yrs 18 mil or so. He reminds me of Lugo. Meh career until right before free agency.
  16. You might be the most belligerent poster I have ever seen. And you wonder why everyone fights with you? What I meant was, he was overpaid in the long haul. He wont be worth 23 mil per season every season. He was this yr. He probably wont be when he's 36.
  17. I have proposed Hawpe. That being said, if NY re-signs Hideki and lets Johnny walk, we could just re-sign Nady. Or, worst case, we could hand it to Jackson, who isnt ready IMO. Our LF situation isnt as dire as it is 200 miles northeast since the middle of our order is based off our 1b, 3b, DH, C, 2b. That being said, I think it would be shortsighted of Cashman not to address our corner OF slot when spending so much on the rest of the crew.
  18. There were questions about his elbow when the trade went down. They were valid. Also, you dont think the Yankees would have ridden him in 2008? He would have been in the same quandry
  19. The money involved is a given. All big market clubs would be in on him. The money wont be an issue unless a team like KC wants in, which I doubt.
  20. And crunchy, you are wrong. Babe Ruth won 7 world series titles. 1915, 1916, and 1918 with Boston 1923, 1927, 1928, and 1932 with the Yankees
  21. I dunno Crunchy. If we made that deal for Santana, we dont win the WS in 2009. Because I agree with y228. No way do we pay 2 pitchers $50 mil per yr total. Just doesnt make sense with how often pitchers get injured. If we got Santana, we pass on CC and probably do sign AJ and re-up Pettitte. And we would have been bounced in the first round since Santana went down with the elbow issue.
  22. Tex is certainly overpaid, but he definitely was worth the money in yr 1. He and ARod formed quite the formidable duo
