  1. corked bats have never been proven to actually hit the ball any harder or farther
  2. Oh absolutely. No Yankee fan would doubt that the money is an advantage. Although lately, there has been somewhat of a shift in philosophy in NY. You are seeing players come up and stick like Gardner, Hughes, Joba, and Cano with other guys filling in off the bench like Cervelli, Russo and Pena as well as in the pen like Aceves, Robertson and others. Thing is, this massive payroll is necessitated by the Yankees dearth of drafting from the late 90s through 2003. They started drafting high price tag guys again in 2004 (Hughes) and have done pretty well ever since. Once the home grown talent starts sprining up all over the place, you'll see the price tag come down. Either that, or they'll focus their price tags on only the elite players knowing that the other holes can be filled admirably from within. Meaning they may not drop their salary, but they'll get better bang for their buck
  3. Not so sure there a700. Jason Donald is probably a franchise SS, IMO. Those are worth a lot more than a guy who, even if he reaches his full potential, is a #2 or #3 starter.
  4. BTW, next yrs draft is f***ing LOADED. So even if Ranaudo proves to be completely healthy, he still might slip down due to the ridiculous amount of prospects coming due, mostly from a college standpoint. There were a TON of prep guys selected because the college guys were one of the worst classes in awhile
  5. Ranaudo is counselled by Boras. We know two things.... A. If he signs, he won't sign until mid August B. If he signs, it will definitely be for over-slot money Boras has always gotten the most money for his clients with the caveat that yrs of eligibility are worth their weight in gold for the purposes of leverage. You are talking about a guy who has had at least 3 (Crow, Hochevar, and Drew) of his clients forgo multi-million dollar signing bonuses to play indy ball after their eligibility was gone. He's gonna bilk the sox like he always does. The question is, whether Ranaudo thinks he could get lottery pick money next yr or if he thinks he's stay in this range next season. Regardless, I am willing to bet you guys that he signs for at least $1.5 million and the likelihood is that his bonus will exceed $2 million.
  6. Exactly, he couldnt locate. But he generated enough strength to throw 90+mph without a ligament most people consider crucial to arm stability. That is why I think up-bringing and base strength are more important than this kinesiology s***. Mathematically, if the force applied is less than the force needed to overcome the obstacle (ie the UCL) then the obstacle stays in place. There may be more theoretical unmeasured effort put into the delivery, but if you dont know A. how much force is being applied, and B. how much force would be required to tear said ligament, then any argument is filled with doubt and uncertainty
  7. YZ, suns is a fun guy to have around. His antics may turn things off course, but at least the game threads are interesting
  8. VMart is probably the third or fourth best behind Posada, Mauer and maybe McCann (probably not, though). That being said, this deal was from a significant strength that the red sox had (young pitching) for something their system was pretty barren on which was catching. It made sense from the sox perspective. And they have gotten A+ production from the catcher's position ever since, at least offensively. It's a win-win IMO. You get a yr and a half of elite offensive production from the catcher's spot for a pitcher who would have started out the yr 7th on the SP depth chart and would graduate to a max of 6 next season. It was a no-brainer. The Guardians have the chance to make out better on the deal depending on how Hagadone and Price turn out. But that is how all prospect for all-star deals work. The team dealing the all-star typically gets one solid prospect and a bunch of guys with talent who havent graduated to the elite level yet.
  9. Lassiter, if the yankees dont know emerging talent if it bit them in the azz, then how did they win a championship with a team that had the most home grown players on it in the league?
  10. hell of a game. I usually start tuning in for the playoffs, but this yr has been different. Regardless, the passion is there
  11. So, the sox werent irrelevant prior to 2004? Maybe in 1986, but the Yankees werent that good back then. The last time the sox were relevant to the Yankees was in 1978. I wasnt around in 1978, so I cannot give you true testimony, but my dad said that most Yankee fans in the metro area didnt care about the sox any more than they did any other team. Nowadays, obviously, the sox have a bullseye on their backs when they come to NY.
  12. YANKEES WIN, THAAAAAAA YANKEES WIN!!
  13. Then you must be happy as a pig in slop
  14. Joba is throwing batting practice. 95mph down the middle
  15. I recommend you put your helmet back on. This much actual conversation might trigger a seizure.
  16. We typically cannot read what you type, or cannot understand it. We dont speak retard
  17. He's hilarious. A running redneck joke. I love having him around
  18. Remember, the confederates never lost and a shotgun is actually secured to the body before underwear and teeth
  19. Because the Guardians eventually need to return to their last place ways.
  20. That didnt really fit there. Kinda like teeth in your family portrait
  21. You dont have the qualifications to gloat against the red sox.
  22. yssc78, that all changed in 2004. We didnt care about the red sox prior to that since the sox really were irrelevant. Once they became relevant, they came onto our radar. Prior to that, the Royals were our biggest AL rival in the late 70s, early 80s and the O's prior to that. Most yankee fans in that time hated the Royals and the O's more than they hated the Red Sox (my dad being one of those yankee fans who hated those teams). Once the sox proved their worth and made history, they came square into our sights and hence why I hate them anyway. But it is a different kind of hate than we are all accustomed to. It's a hatred that wants them to lose every game, but I do respect them. Until the sox become irrelevant (and they are showing no signs of doing that with their recent drafts) then we wont care about them like the Royals and the O's of now.
