  1. Garland will be fine if Scioscia and pitching coach Mike Butcher (had to go to the Angels' website to look that one up) leave him alone. His first few years with the White Sox, manager Jerry Manuel and pitching coach Nardi Contreras jerked him around. They had a very quick hook with him, almost always pulling him in the 6th or 7th if a runner was on. Ozzie Guillen and Don Cooper were more willing to let him try to get out of late inning jams.
  2. My brackets are crap. I counted on the usually reliable second round exit of a Bill Self-coached team, Duke making it past the second round and a couple of Catholic schools that got into the tournament by winning their conference tournaments.
  3. Link The Rangers must be desperate for arms to sign this guy.
  4. He's as good defensively as half the SSs in the league. And half the SSs in the league are serviceable. Like I've said before, most of the guys my age grew up watching Ozzie Smith, so he's our gold standard at SS defensively.
  5. Welcome!
  6. Link We need an Ivy Leaguer to tell us this?
  7. Also, they wouldn't have needed to get Swisher if Kenny and Ozzie Guillen would be willing enough to give Brian Anderson another chance. They're just too pigheaded to do it.
  8. They're sunk, particularly pitching-wise, if they have any injuries. The guys they have left in the minors are career minor leaguers like Brett Prinz and Dewon Day. There's a reason why they've spent most of their careers in the minors: they're bad.
  9. This is a boom-or-bust trade for Kenny. If Swisher is any good and my Sox do well in the playoffs, Kenny will look like a genius. If they don't and they guys they traded (I'm PO'd they traded Gio, their top pitching prospect) are any good, Kenny will probably be updating his resume next offseason.
  10. IMO, John Paxson is looking to make some deals at the trading deadline to improve the team through the draft. I'm a Bulls fan and I love seeing this group of grinders. But that is their problem. They don't have any superstars to command a double team. They have a chance to win when their jumpers are going in and hitting their foul shots. Unfortunately, some nights the basket has a lid on it. Ben Gordon and Luol Deng would be the 6th man on about half of the teams in the league. Kirk Heinrich would be a backup on several teams. Unfortunately, they're starters because the Bulls don't have anything better.
  11. Frank Thomas. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a White Sox fan. He didn't cheat.
  12. Don Cherry defends this guy
  13. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2007/12/19/simon-suspension.html If ever someone needs to be blacklisted from the league, this guy would be it.
  14. They're bolstering their bullpen with LaTroy Hawkins? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Good luck with that. As an objective outsider (aka a White Sox fan), I watched the Cubs try the LaTroy Hawkins experiment. It was just like the old comedy shorts: you hear a loud boom and an old guy in a lab coat comes out with his hair on end and covered in soot.
  15. You want a lefty who can't even get righties out?
  16. I heard it was my Sox that were interested.
  17. I'll give Cubs GM Jim Hendry a $25 gift card to his favorite store (Krispy Kreme) if he gets rid of him.
  18. Right now, they're still running with the burglary story. I got suckered in by the first Chris Benoit stories, that everyone thought it was a gas leak, so I'll wait and see if the burglary story is true.
  19. Someone please remove him from Chicago. I'm a White Sox fan and even I'm tired of hearing of his ailment of the day.
  20. My thoughts and prayers for him and his family & friends.
