  1. River: no dead horse here...this is a point that needs to be reinforced as it reminds all that the Sox are operating in a different manner than the Yanks...and in a more similar manner to most of MLB's teams.
  2. that was the key to the deal...i read somewhere that there were other teams pursuing Abreu as part of a package but all deals fell apart once the Yankees agreed to eat Abreau's salary. no could...or would...match that facet of the deal.
  3. While it is precautionary and way too early to think the worst, that wouldn't stop the site's resident "expert" from going into great detail to explain the possibilities...if he were not banned. BBDoc would go into a bit where he says it could be Hodgkins, which is a cancer that starts in lymphatic tissue, or the tissue which includes the lymph nodes and related organs that are part of the body's immune and blood-forming systems and that Hodgkin's is among the most treatable forms of cancer and that Mairo Lemieux had Hodgkin's and recovered to play in the NHL again after treatment. He'd then go on to tell us that if it were Non-Hodgkins lymphoma the situation would be much worse and that these 2 types of lymphoma can usually be distinguished from each other by examining the cancerous tissue under a microscope and we'd have to await the results of a biopsy. (FYI, my Dad had both, thus my familiarity with the diseases...not making light of the situation, but shedding light). He'd then close the "WebMD" website and post some annoying response to someone's post. All ball-busting aside, I sincerely do hope that Mr. Lester is ok....baseball don't mean sh*t when it comes to issues like this.
  4. true, so I guess you could pick it apart, being very specific, and say if the Red Sox had this or that things might have been different. The end to 2003 was just an absolute joke because the Red Sox had found themselves in the very "un-Red Sock" position of having two great set-up men and a closer (Embree/Timlin and Williamson) who were virtually untouchable in the playoffs. So in the biggest game of the year...no, wait..the biggest game of most of these guys lives...a decision was made to go away from the proven recipe for success. That was unconsciounable, IMO. At any rate, I think we agree...you can never have enough pitching. So ya gotta load up on arms and allow the team some options and flexibility, then ride who is hot. This year shows clearly what happens when those options are too few or simply not viable.
  5. I don't necessarily get mad that the Sox lost Damon because I think the truth is that unless the Sox grossly overpaid for him, the Yankees were going to trump the Sox offer and he was going to grab the $$$. I do get frustrated that the best the Red Sox could get in terms of a replacement was Coco...the FO did a great job of pumping this guy...I know I was sold...but even given the injury, and given a little slack for a transitional year, Coco doesn't look like a player who's going to have a tremendous impact on this squad.
  6. it's all relative bro...there isn't much out there to be had in terms of SPs and Meche is decent. How he'd handle Boston I don't know, but if he can essentailly BE Arroyo, I'd be pretty pleased. Christ he's gotta be better than the sh*t we've thrown out there in the 4 and 5 spots.
  7. possible. in fact in 2003 the Sox were good enough to win it except for a Little mistake that occurred when a certain someone decided to forego a BP that had been developed in the last 1/2 of the season and which was incredibly successful in the playoffs.
  8. didn't' Alyssa Milano insinuate that he had a little package makes sense...this guy is sackless. pride of southington, ct. faaaaaaak.
  9. you may be right. with slim pickins though I suspect the Sox will look hard at him. Ya know who handled the Boston atmosphere pretty well...Arroyo. loosy goosy approach. oh s***, the board is going to come down on me for mentioning his name.
  10. I know the recent skid really skews things, but: excluding the Sox 16-2 record against the NL, they are a sub .500 team. They've underachieved tremendously this year sans the beating they threw in the NL. I really think they hinged their hopes on Beckett being dominant, Schilling being Schilling, Wells being healthy, Clement being the Apr-July pitcher he was last year, the young arms contributing strongly, and Foulke being the 2004 Foulke. they got only 2 of the 6 above ( 1.schilling and 2. I'll say Paps single-handedly fulfilled the young-arm expectation, while the other youngsters were so-so at best). My hunch is the Sox inability to get something done at the trade deadline was twofold. First its an admission that the team was flawed enough that the FO knew no moves were going to make them a strong WS title contender; yet at the same time they were still close enough in the playoff hunt that they could not become sellers, lest they pi$$ off the throngs. In some ways, it mighta been better of they fell out of the race earlier. The winds of change are blowing. So where do they go? What will the Sox look like next year? Some of our likely departing players or question marks: Foulke: FA...should be gone...there's a mutual option on him. Sox won't exercise that. Seanez: FA...team option..bwahahahahaha AGonz: FA...I like him. or should I say I DID like him? Loretta: FA Wakefield: FA...team option...Sox FO will exercise the option Crisp: the CF experiment failed. He is movable as his salary isn't huge and he is still young. I think he'd perform better out of the bright lights and if there are potential replacents (G. Matthews Jr, A. Jones? or Juan Pierre (was his ever extended after his trade? other options?) Kapler: FA ...please go away so Francona doesn't have an excuse to keep giving you playing time. Trot: FA..gone Other FAs: Cora, Mirabelli (i think is a FA) and Timlin...do the Sox make a push to resign any of these guys? Ramirez: You know he's on the block, its an offseason ritual and with his committed dollars decreasing he becomes a more and more viable part of a trade. I'd hate to see him go, but in the right deal the FO will move him and his remaining $. I expect the Sox to make a run at Gil Meche, the 27 yr old righty with Seattle. Any other SPs they should shoot for? By the way, I still haven't given up total hope....I mean they are only 6 outta the WC...hey ya never know....maybe...ahhhhh, faaaaaaak. so what do they look like next year?
  11. IMO, a better alternative would be a guy some of us have mentioned who isn't a big name... Gil Meche from Seattle, who is a free agent after this year
  12. my friend had an irregular heart beat so they took him to the hospital and they did some tests and everything was fine except they mistook him for another patient who was in for testicular cancer and they put him under and removed his left nut then realized the mistake and the Doc decided to try and hide the error so he inserted a walnut into his sack and no one was the wiser until my friend got suspicious when he found he was suddenly and attracted to the character on the Planter's Peanut can and he found himself inexplicably cringing and writhing in pain when attending the Nutracker at the Orpheum.
  13. nice throw...that's what I like to see, 'belli didn't have to budge.
  14. if i recall correctly when COmcast picked up YES here in central ct. our bills were impacted by $2 per month specific to the YES addition. not sure what the charge is now, if you could isolate it, but still YES represents a channel and an associated charge that I never asked for or wanted.
  15. Jeez, you all told me I was beating a dead horse so I made a final statement...I was not in favor of the trade...but I did say I hoped WMP would prove the trade to be a good one...but now who can't let it go? One more time for those struggling with the concept. I didn't like the trade, but I hope it pays off. I have nothing against WMP, and I will cheer him as you will. I do appreciate the pop he has shown...I do also have some concern about his plate discipline and ability to hit breaking balls, especially those away. Hopefully he works that out. last night he made a play I wouldn't expect from my 14 yr old and I called him out on it. And I'd have said the same thing if it was Manny or Lowell or Pedroia or anyone else. if you view the play objectively you can't possibly tell me it wasn't a major fuk up. As ORS suggests, let's stick to the point of my post, which was the play itself.
  16. let's be clear about a few things then move on...I didn't and still don't like the Wily Mo trade...I hope he ends up making the trade look great in the future. Yes I know Arroyo wasn't going to lead the Sox to a WS title, as I've said before he is what he is...an inning eating, serviceable 3rd or 4th starter. I just don't like trading a reasonably reliable starting pitcher, especially one who took a home town discount, for a potential future RF. Others disagree and think the trade is a good one? Fine, we all have our own points of view. OK, that's done. Now to answer your question: yes I would blast whomever got picked, because I understand the situation. No outs. Lead-off guy on first. 3-2 count, and your going to be running. You are not trying to steal the base...you are trying to stay out of a double play and potentially go to third on a hit or score on a double...so you don't need to get a tremendous jump. The baseball "law" on that play is DO NOT GET PICKED OFF. I can't make excuses for the guy or let him off the hook. He fkd up.
  17. you're welcome. and just think of the pain and horror. - can't go to the beach without spontaneuosly combusting. - get thrown out of the CF bleachers at ballgames because you're creating too much of a reflection in the hitter's eyes. - skiing and you fall in the snow and not even the St Bernard can find you - wearing the nickname "Casper" all your life. it's gotta be hell and I for one am mad as hell...the gov't spends billions on researching cancer, diabetes, AIDS, etc. yet ignores: immigration problems and albinism? its sickening.
  18. righto, Roy. just for the record, as I explained in my previous post, i didn't BLAME him for the loss. me thinks y'all need to read posts closer.
  19. You are right, putting the blame on him solely would not be smart...of course that's precisely why I did not blame him. Q: Did I state that the Red Sox lost because of that play? A: No! Don't over analyze statements and take them in a direction that they're clearly not going. All I said is way to get picked off...and that he's not making the trade look any better. Period.
  20. ??? I beg to differ. NOAH is the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation. It is an organization where people with albinism, their families and those that work with them can get information, ask questions and share their experiences.
  21. Damn, every time I see Wily Mo I feel better about the trade that brought him here...way to get picked off last night in a key spot...dumb ass.
  22. I have a feeling the Nosepicker is trying not to run the key pieces of the BP into the ground the way he did with Flash Gordon and Mike Stanton in the past.
  23. there is likely a lot of truth in this statement.
  24. wow, Pinstripes...you certainly bring a lot to the table. Keep on posting, as the manner in which you represent the Yankees does wonders for the image of their fans.
  25. sounds like it.
