  1. OK, some big off-season surprises that likely won't happen but would be eye-opening if they did: Pettite signs with the Red Sox Matsazuka DOES NOT sign with the Yankees (personally I think he's in the bag for them) Sheffield gets traded to the NL and doesn't complain (that would be a shocker) Red Sox sign Juan Pierre (nahhh, speed doesn't play in Boston, despite a certain SB in 2004) Jeff Weaver signs with Yanks, taking another shot at Big Apple success
  2. He might be "an option" but I'm not sure he's a "better" option than the FA market. Foulke's slide from a fastball that topped out at 91-92 in 2004 to one that rarely breaks 87 is not likely to be reversed (unless he uses some HGH or something). He may be crafty and he may get some guys out but IMO his days as a solid closer are gone.
  3. Agree Pep, even Theo so much as said that when 'belli was reacquired last year that the FO made a knee-jerk reaction and that had they taken a little more time there may have been another solution to the problem.
  4. i guess he probably does...it was just a fkn question, don't get yer panties in a bunch.
  5. "maybe he did" is not a problem in the clubhouse because the players know or have a good idea of who has or hasn't juiced. The percentage of players who have used performance enhancing drugs is probably so high that whether he used or didn't would not be an issue in ther clubhouse. it's not like he's the exception...he's more the rule.
  6. What no one is considering is does Mirabelli want to come back to Boston? Does he want to be viewed as a guy who is only there to catch for Wakefield? Maybe he's not even considering resigning. Anyone know if Wake has a no-trade clause?
  7. why not? he made 32 starts this year, pitched 186 innings, was 11-8 and was "fair" for the most part, oiutside of a horrible stretch in August where he lost command and was walking guys. But he is only 28, and almost Arroyo-ish in some ways, although Arroyo is better. He'd be a good back of the rotation candidate and I think we've learned you can't have too much pitching.
  8. That's the smart move by an agent, to say he's not going anywhere. If he indicates that ARod is moving, the trade value decreases, the Yankees are pi$$ed, and Boras KNOWS who has the most money to spend...he doesn't want any conflict with the cash cow, lest it somehow affect his own pocket down the line.
  9. riverside, ya missed a certain DH, I think.
  10. If the angels become big spenders they're going to make the FA picture interesting. Would they go after Zito...maybe he likes the West Coast. Or perhaps Schmidt? Is there any way they get a deal done for ARod (I hope he stays right where he is)? I suspect the Mets will go hard after Zito as well. My gut says the Sox are going to have to get better through trades...maybe they go after Schmidt, maybe Gil Meche, but assuming they don't land a FA pitching, a creative trade may be necessary...if they don't get that done I'd cal it a rebuilding year.
  11. No. but now every other pitcher's price tag goes up too. What's Gil Meche gonna cost? $6-7 m per year?
  12. Ease up, I wasn't talking to you in the first place. Now, with respect to your post above, with you stating that the Angels will be the exception what do you mean? Are they going to spend a lot more? or a lot less?
  13. 26, no not too much for me to comprehend. you stated that: It's funny how a bunch of people, especially Red Sox fans, make fun of A-Rod when he goes through those stretches and insist that he'll never be good again. Or if he's in a slump, criticize him or somethingI understand you completely[/b Especially=particularly, primarily, etc. Your statement just isn't accurate. The fans who are crucifying ARod the worst are YANKEE FANS, not Sox or Met or Jays or O's or any other fans. We're critical in a cynical way, yes, because his struggles are to the Sox benefit. But if you really pay attention you'll hear most Sox fans say they don't want him to wake up or snap out of it because he is so talented he could carry a team on his back. YANKEE FANS, however, are the ones treating him as if he's all done, booing him in the big spots, saying to trade him, etc. Don't try an project the actions of Yankee fans on the rest of us.
  14. ORS, I think its the $80m payroll advantage that has them automatically assume they'll be division champs. Hell, its been working for them that last few years, perhaps if they get up to $250m they can win a playoff series again.
  15. hear a discussion on the radio regarding Willie...does Willie Randolph = Grady Little? I say no. GRady had a 5-2 lead and left his starter in beyond the point where he woulda pulled him all year AND ignored the fact that he had a BP that hadn't given a run up in a long time (Embree, Timlin, Williamson).
  16. true...they haven't been seen in the post-season since October 16, 2004
  17. :wtf: Huh? Have I been imagining things? All this time I thought it was the YANKEE fans that were all over ARod, forgot that he was recently an MVP, viewed him as a pariah to the team and were practically running him out of the stadium and the town!
  18. the story leaves out the fact that Buckner was a key to the Red Sox even getting to the WS that year...likely wearing the same Cubs batting glove. If they want to carry on this curse crap, they should see if they can create an angle regarding Schiraldi and Stanley and how they were affected by the curse, cuz they're the ones that really blew the game.
  19. SCM: That lowlight is hilarious. I remember watching that game and thinking "did I just see what I thought I saw"? Talk about misjudging a fly ball.
