  1. we've now got "Manny and Who else", "Trading Manny", "Dodgers or Padres who gets Manny" and "Papelbon speaks against trading Manny" which all could be under one thread. maybe its a "name in lights" situaiton here, I don't know, but its fkn annoying as hell.
  2. wow, now this is perhaps the funniest thing GOM has ever posted!!!! this is a knee-slapper, a rib-tickler, a real gut-buster. the not-very-pc bagels and lochs comment? nahh, that doesn't compare. today's un-PC comment about starting the HFC? nope, this one has it by yards. thanks for the entertainment, GOM, and keep up the jocularity. I think you've cemented your legacy here.
  3. examples? not being a ballbuster, but give us some examples.
  4. I hear what you're saying but I wonder this...Did Dave Kingman get pitched around? Or Matt Williams? My fear would be that WMP remains a 'K' machine, in the mold of a Dave Kingman, and doesn't get pitched around nearly often enough to offer protection to whomever hits in front of him. And as a rather weak defensive player I think he needs to bring that sort of protection to the table to "earn his keep"
  5. And note that Lucchino was in Japan, and Lucchino made these comments...not Theo. Another indicator that Theo is not working autonomously.
  6. Personally I could not care less what he did because I'm of the mind that there's a lot of other guys who've done it in the past, are doing it now or are using HGH which is not presently tested for...and for one reason or another just fly under the radar. The present :Ryan Howard? Pujols? Soriano? Hafner? Thome? Delgado? Glaus? The 90's: Brady Anderson? Albert Belle? Juan Gonzalez? Jay Buehner? Sosa? Palmiero? What about the fringe players who only made it or hung on for a few years because they had that little extra help in the way of performance enhancing drugs. Why single out Barry Bonds? Because he used and ended up being better than anyone else who used? As far as him...or anyone else who has been implicated in the steroid scandal...wearing a Sox uniform, I root for the name on front and while I might not be overjoyed to have one of these guys on the Sox, my personal morality would not be insulted...cuz I don't really care what the fck they put in their bodies. They ain't my idols. They ain't my heroes. They ain't my friends. I don't really care what they do.
  7. The above passage contains at least one claim that I think deflated your thread before it really got any credibility. MOST Sox love Theo? I disagree. Some fans think Theo is responsible for 2004...and love him for that...that's their entitlement, fine, I think they're misguided, but whatever. Some Sox fans think Duquette and some luck had more to do with the title than Theo...fine. Some Sox fans think Lucchino had as much, if not more, to do with the teams success than did Theo...great. Some Sox fans think the FO discusses everything and no one man is totally responsible for teams good and/or bad personnel moves. Some are FO apologists, ball-washers if you will and will always give Theo credit for the good but no blame for the bad. Others will be overly critical of every move, the eternal pessimists, and never give Theo or anyone else in the FO enough credit. Every fan base is a mix of individuals, beliefs and loyalties and to ignore that fact under the guise of this thread is either an attempt to bait the Sox fans or it is a display of a lack of understanding regarding the variability among any team's fan attitudes.
  8. oh yeah? prove it...what street corner did she work on?
  9. Lugo's reported 'agreement' to play CF for the Cubs if they should pursue him may simply be posturing to draw more suitors/up the perceived demand for his services. My guess is he'd much rather play SS for the Sox, if he had a choice.
  10. I disagree in giving Theo sole credit for 2004. He may have helped, and obviously the Cabrera in, Nomar out situation was, in retrospect, a great move, but HE did not single-handedly build this team...I say Lucchino gets equal credit for the moves made around that time...i.e. Schilling, etc. I don't think Theo had autonomy. Meanwhile some credit also must go to Dan Duquette for bringing in some of the core of players.
  11. In Massarotti's article (link within the initial post of this thread) it is stated that: "With Drew signed, the Sox could go with an outfield of Drew, Coco Crisp and Wily Mo Pena. Ramirez could then be used as a bargaining chip to address a collection of smaller needs, be they in the bullpen or on the bench." That's not exactly an OF that warms my heart.
  12. LEt's not foget that after next season there are three CF's coming into free agency that might garner interest from the ed Sox...Wells, Hunter and Andrue Jones.
  13. well guess what then...don't be surprised if he starts to garner interest from the Sox again. Gee, if they were able to get another bat, say a Nick Johnson to play 1B for instance, ya just might see a platoon situation with WMP and Nixon in RF for far less $ than JD Drew would cost.
  14. I'm surprised we haven't heard of potential deals involving the Sox and Nick Johnson. My guess is the Sox FO has looked at/is looking at this option.
