  1. In an interview before the game, Duncan said: "Everything I said, we're still going to go out there and we're going to play the game hard. Just like I said before. They showed us what is acceptable. We're just going to go play the game." Contrast this to Jeter and Posada's comments: Jeter: "I don't see why anything would carry over. Why would it carry over? I think it makes for a good story but . . . we're in spring training. I don't see the reason why something should carry over." Posada: "Spring training game, guys. Spring training game. Happens. It's a freak accident. Move on. Be able to move on." I guess Duncan can only garner the MLB spotlight by using his mouth and cleats...sadly, to date he's been unable to do so with his baseball ability.
  2. Let me see if I have this right... Heath Phillips evens the score/sends a message (retaliation for the CLEAN Johnson/Cervelli play) by hitting Longoria.... But that's not enough, and Shelly "The Red Sox Suck" Duncan goes in high and hard on Iwamura? Did Girardi issue a statement saying Duncan's play was inappropriate for a spring training game?
  3. i think it was Ieatchercum-itis and was contracted from that sumo wrestler you spoke of. Shoulda spit, Jason.
  4. Did I mention Billy Crystal throws like a girl?
  5. Billy Crystal throws like a girl. Yeah, that's right, I said it. Funny how some actors find themselves in baseball-related movies and look as bad as the worst kid on my little league team. Kevin Costner can throw. Redford looked good in The Natural. Tim Robbins and Tony Danza can not throw, nor can Corbin Bernsen. I'd suggets Robbins stick to films where he gets but-ravaged as a child and as an adult admits to murders he didn't commit...that's his strength.
  6. Yesterday's game reminded me how much I despise the Rangers.
  7. Dave Solomon, who writes for the New Haven Register, blasted the Sox for not giving Paps what he was asking for. He says how can they quibble over $100k or so and insinuates that this will lead to a rift. Solomon, mind you, is a Yankees fan. He blasts the Sox FO every chance he gets. More than that, apparently he doesn't understand that a FO sets a precedent that can burn them down the road if they you just give in. What a tool.
  8. The editor of this story must have been sleeping on the job: "Ponson joins several internal candidates as possibilities to replace Ponson in the rotation." Uhhh, yeah, nice work.
  9. The B's should lure Don Cherry back to the helm and just beat the crap outta everyone.
  10. A prostitute once said things were so tough, she slept with a guy for free just to stay warm in her bed. "That's nothing," said her fellow streetwalker. "I just blew a guy for free to get a warm meal."
  11. Another blow out loss for the B's. There sucking wind right now and need a quick turnaround. Saturday they play the Caps (who beat 'em 10-2 last time out). Someone better put a body on Ovechkin.
  12. Yeah, but how did he pitch?
  13. haven't looked at the box score but did I hear right that Mussina got knocked around a bit yesterday?
  14. Totally, totally, totally laid an egg.
  15. No, it was $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  16. Or from "Tight End" to "Wide Receiver"?
  17. I've said the same in the past...the Democrats should look within and kick their own collective asses for not being able to come up with a candidate who could defeat the former 'C' student. The only thing more embarrassing than Bush himself is, well, the clowns the Dems sent to bat against him. Good god, Gore and Kerry? Disgraceful.
  18. Then maybe this your year to make some coin on the tourney...I find the little bit of success I might have in these sort of things comes when I have no emotional attachment to any teams and could almost care less.
  19. Frankly this "purity" of the game ******** is annoying. When has the game ever been truly "pure"? If laws are broken, there should be consequences. If MLB rules are broken there should be consequences as well. But personally I've had it with the "purity" rhetoric. In terms of PED's or any other immoral, illegal or just plain "not nice" behavior, is anything pure? Is football pure? Basketball? Cycling? Doubt it. There are much more important "impurities" to be concerned about...for instance: Are politics pure? Is our court system pure? Is Corporate America pure? The impurities within those systems mean a hell of a lot more than baseball's ills, IMO, but aren't necessarily viewed that way by much of our society. The thought that baseball should be held to some higher standard than other walks of life is ridiculous. If fans don't like the impurity, don't attend/watch or purchase anything baseball related.
  20. Although not directed at me I'll chime in. I have no illusions about the purity of the Red Sox versus any other team, nor do I care. I was watching a bit of a replay of a Sox game from the mid to late 90's, not sure what year. Canseco was on the team. Either that year or in subsequent years certain Sox players HR totals grew as did their shirt sizes...Johnny Valentin, Troy O'Leary come to mind. Nixon's neck-size soon grew and his HR totals rose. Brian Daubach was hitting the mid-20's in HRs, Garciaparra became a beast. I suspected many of these players back then as I suspect some of the current squad. I don't care and I don't blame them either.
  21. looks a little bit like Khadafi, sans mole: http://eldib.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/mouammar-khadafi-1.jpg
