  1. More Roger banter:http://blogs.houstonpress.com/ballz/2008/04/steroids_and_roger_clemens_loo.php http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/04/29/2008-04-29_source_roger_clemens_had_several_women_f.html http://news.bostonherald.com/track/inside_track/view.bg?articleid=1090645&srvc=home&position=rated I do love this part: “Whenever he came into the Hard Rock, they had to play ‘Rocket Man,’ ” recalled another ex-employee. What a tool. Wonder what news will come out tomorrow and the next day. I used to root for his demise...now he's just a fkn embarassment.
  2. Lat night it almost seemed as though the Pens could score whenever they wanted. Lundquist looked very average, although his D-men left guys open in the slot at the wrong time. George Larocque looked like a sniper on his goal...but two guys were near him and no one put the body on him. I'm hoping for a 4-0 second period lead for the Pens in the next game, followed by a stupid, bush-league play by Avery at the beginning of the 3rd period that leads to Avery getting his face punched in by George Larocque in what may well be Avery's last game as a Ranger. Then a nice mellow remainder of the game so that the Pens can relax and ease into the conference finals.
  3. I think that is a big part of it. The media attention these guys get, particularly the focus on their screwups and indiscretions, is much more intense than years ago. The internet, too, offers easy access to this information. Fans in general are much more aware of what's going on behind the scenes and it likely leads to them viewing athletes much more critically, decreasing the level of respect they have for the pros.
  4. I don't know. My kids seem to have more respect for teachers, law enforcement employees, doctors, their Mom and Dad, their friends' parents (with some exceptions),etc. than they do professional athletes. My 12 yr old plays ball and loves the game, and while he admires certain players abilities (Manny's swing, Bucholz curve, etc.) he in no way idolizes any player and to tell the truth, I think a lot of that is based on what he's been exposed to in his years as a fan - - with steroids clearly at the forefront.
  5. in both directions
  6. I wasn't referring to her age...or even to her, specifically...my point was that, in general, I don't give a s*** what these guys do, because I don't look up to them for the most part, and I don't hold them to a higher standard than anyone else. For the record, IMO, it is absolutely fkn reprehensible that he'd screw around with a girl of that age, assuming all this is true. I guess I'm just not surprised in the least at these revelations. I've never liked, admired or trusted the guy.
  7. Loved watching the Habs lose last night. Things got a little tighter than they shoulda last night after Hatcher decided to ram a guys face into the boards. Philly seems ot do a lot of this, no? I hate what was done to Bergeron, but I'm still pulling for Philly because, after all, we're talking about the Habs here. Price looks pedestrian at this point. If he had played this way consistently versus the B's, it would be a Philly-Bruins series we'd be watching.
  8. That's the problem with "so many people." They worship these guys blindly. Any fan who is "hurt" by his downfall needs to fkn wake up and realize that these guys are not only as susceptible to bad decisions as the rest of society, their egos and money often make them more susceptible...and all the while they think they are above our contempt? Said it a million times.. These guys ain't my heroes, role models or friends... they're adults lucky enough to have been blessed with athletic ability that allows them to play a kid's game for ridiculous salaries... they're playing a game most of us would gladly play for a fraction of their pay and fame. f*** 'em.
  9. A little much? Nah. I just read the full article on it and see those other items JBH mentioned. Personally I don't care what he did with whom...assuming the allegations are true, though, the lying routine is old. Just fkn admit it and move on, dude.
  10. Reportedly, Mccready has a checkered past herself. Drug abuse, an abusive relationship, an arrest....check out this mug shot: http://www.mugshots.com/IMAGES/Mugshot__Mindy_McCready.jpg
  11. I put this in the off-topic thread for obvious reasons....who knows if this latest stuff is true. Anyway, here's a link to a NYDN story regarding the Rocket and an alleged affair: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/04/27/2008-04-27_sources_roger_clemens_had_10year_fling_w.html
  12. Claude's career: 379 goals 406 assists 1756 PIMs Playoffs: 233 Games 80 goals 78 assists 529 PIMs 4 Stanley Cups and one Conn Smthe trophy He was clutch...he was an annoying bastard, but was tough. I will give him that after turtling once against McCarty (after a cheap shot sent him down) he redeemed himself to some extent by taking on McCarty 3 seconds into a game. What I remember and still dislike though was the way he went after our Cam Neely with cheap shots but refused to fight. I don't care what he did to any non-Bruin, but against the B's, and particularly Cammer, he pissed me off big time.
  13. Oh, yes, what a rivalry that was. Claude Lemiuex running Chris Draper's face into the top of the boards...Lemieux was a tool, but Draper deserved a beating...although perhaps not a crushed face. McCarty jumping Lemieux and pounding him, and giving him the Neely treatment by slamming him into the boards. It wasn't until the following year that Lemieux actually willingly accepted a fight with McCarty. Roy vs Osgood a couple of times, with Roy bloodied in one bout. Someone actually wrote a book specifically about this rivalry a few years back.
  14. I'll go: Montreal 5 Rangers 6 Detroit 6 Dallas 7
  15. that it does. which is why i think it important to remember that our socialist friends to the north are NOT excluded from the mix, be it a riot or simply the audacity to come to Boston and act up. I don't go to Yankee Stadium and wear Red Sox gear and fire up the Yankee fans...not because I'm afraid, but because I think it's THEIR house, not mine. A combinaiton of self-respect and respect for other paying fans I guess. f*** the Habs and their arrogant fans, and I do hope Philly beats them or at the very least takes it to them physically. Hopefully the next dive by a Canadien player will be a dive onto the skewer that the Quebec media will have waiting for the goat of the series if and when they are eliminated. Kovalev would be a nice victim.
  16. Important post, Rules. I think that often Canadian media, and U.S. as well, portrays Montreal as being among the "upper crust" of North American society...or at least I've picked up on that notion myself through a variety of means. The article mentions 1993's disgusting display after the Habs won the Cup. Let us not forget the debacle that ensued after the Metallica/Guns and concert was cut short. Or the 1955 (?) "Rocket Richard" riot. OK, now I may be considered off base on the following, but hear me out. IMO, of the most obnoxious displays of fan behavior I saw this year was when thousands of Habs fans descend upon the B's home turf and, in generally large, tightly packed groups, taunt B's fans, boo Chara every time he touches the puck and conduct their usual home-ice chants. While they are certainly entitled to do so, I'd expect that such an allegedly classy and knowledgeable group of fans would, if they attended a game in Boston, show a little respect for the home crowd. They obviously realize they are upsetting a lot of local fans who plopped down THEIR hard earned money too. So they deliberately ruin the experience for the local fan. That is disrespectful. My cousin, who IS a Canadien's fan, saw game 3 in Boston and said some of the displays were so bad he was very surprised the individuals didn't get fukd up by the home crowd. He did say there were some altercations, but nothing too bad. Now I understand that they do this under the guise of being die hard Canadien fans, but you know what? I'll put my support of the Bruins over the last 35 years up against any and every one of them...I've blead black and gold for a long, long time...and I would never, ever, go up to Montreal, or to MSG or the Meadowlands or anywhere else and deliberately antagonize...and IMO, that is what many of these fans are all about. When in those situations, I dramatically curb my enthusiasm so as not to look like an ******* who's trying to get under anyone's skin. But hey, that's me.
  17. There has been some speculation that they're interested in Marion Hossa, former Senator/Thrasher and now with the Pens. Not sure if he's what they need. What they certainly do not need is Glen Murray, although I believe he's still under contract at 4+ mill for next year. Slow footed former snipers are not nearly as effective as they once were.
  18. I'm loving this. Girardi is an idiot. Mike Mussina needs to pitch like Jamie Moyer. Does this douchebag ever think before he talks?
  19. My only (slight) concern...too easy of a series sometimes breeds bad habits. I stress, though, slight concern, as I think the younger guys get good playing time in this opening series, which fosters depth and confidence...and I don't believe KG and other vets would allow complacency. Something about the combination of being a Boston Celtic AND having a chance to make a title run that keeps these things in check.
  20. Hey Bill. That was just my way of asking what the heck YMMV means, without saying "what does YMMV mean?" Wasn't in any way saying you do make me vomit...in fact, we may have had a rough stretch a while back, but I think my eyes have been opened to different ways of looking at things, statistically and otherwise...and for that I kinda thank you.
  21. Any disparity that great can NOT have come as a surprise. Teams that far apart in terms of ability should not be playing each other. Whoever scheduled that game deserves to be punched in the fkn face for humiliating a group of KIDS like that.
  22. Keeping with the "say something derogatory about the opposing team's player(s) theme in a limerick" which worked well last night: There once was a shortstop named Young, Like a field mouse this player was hung, He could take on a butt, tell he busted a nut, without ever coming close to the dung; holy crap, that's kinda sick and twisted, I know, but I'll let it sit.
