  1. Couple of ways to handle the issue if a FO is that concerned about it. - Don't pitch him in NL parks. - Tell him to run very carefully, regardless of the situation BTW, is the rumor true that Hank now wants all of his players wrapped in bubble wrap whenever they're not playing so they don't get a boo-boo?
  2. The frustration is completely understandable, as the injury took place while he was performing an activity that he doesn't perform in the A.L. The reaction, on the other hand is ridiculous and comical. Wang could have just as easily gotten injured covering first base on a grounder that pulled the 1B off the bag...in fact I'd argue that that particular play is more strenuous. It is very unfortunate for the Yankees and Wang, but it is part of the game. You'd think a grown man in his FO position would be able to temper his frustration and conduct himself with more professionalism, self-respect and self-control. Then again the s*** doesn't fall far from the horse's ass, does it.
  3. Interesting. Is it plausible that the next time he closes vs. TB, a batter might be thinking about what he's going to do if he gets plunked, as opposed to what he needs to do to get on base?
  4. What about opponents total runs? So the Sox of 2000 were a high scoring team...what about the teams Pedro pitched against as compared to those Koufax pitched against? Was Pedro pitching in a higher-scoring environment overall?
  5. Pat Healy: Really, it's only a side thing for my true passion. Mary: And what's that? Pat Healy: I work with retards. Mary: Isn't that a little politically incorrect? Pat Healy: Yeah, maybe, but hell, no one's gonna tell me who I can and can't work with. "Those goofy bastards are about the best thing I've got going."
  6. I predict we'll hate them soon enough.
  7. I looked at the video of the fight a few times...there's a point where Manny is in there trying to drag someone out or restore peace or something...I couldn't find Youk though.
  8. Video of Coco interview: http://www.bugsandcranks.com/site-information/video-coco-crisps-post-fight-crazy-talk/ And one TB fans reply...hilarious. Love this part: "This is one of the high points of the season, if not the high point. Yes, we were swept. And yet, we’re still tied for first in the loss column. And we proved that we are men. That we are true Devil Rays. And Devil Rays ain’t nuthin’ to be f***ed with."
  9. I've heard nothing but posted elsewhere that perhaps (purely speculation) Youk rode him about the tweaked hammy or something. Youk is a competitor and I think he expects everyone else to approach the game the same way. Again, simply a theory, who knows.
  10. I understand the logistics of this series are an issue, but the 2-3-2 format is a joke. Why should the team with home court play less home games after 5 total games are played than the visitng team? If the Lakers win 1 in Boston they could close the series out at home. How does that make sense?
  11. I give Crisp credit for recognizing that Shields threw at his thigh...that's professional. The rest was hilarious. As for Manny vs. Youk, did this perhaps take place after Manny tweaked his hammy? Maybe Manny was opting out of the remainder of the game and Youk called him on it? Just a theory.
  12. Very good game last night. I wish Sid the Kid could have snuck that backhander by Osgood so we'd get some OT excitement, but good ending nonetheless. The key may have been the Pens inability to make Detroit pay for Draper's stupid, stupid penalty when the Wings were already down a man. He follows a guy into the boards and although he didn't hit him real hard, puts his glove on the back of the guys head and shoves it into the glass...basically the same crap he's been doing for years and getting away with. In the end, the better team won.
  13. That Yale education will likely become important sooner rather than later.
  14. nice! I guess the nickname is starting to stick a bit...it was last September when I first posted the following: The private got himself into a pyle of s*** early yesterday, and there weren't even any bugs to blame it on.
  15. IIRC, and I apologize for not trying to dig up any support, there was a point prior to that trade where some members of the Red Sox FO and scouting corps were dissapointed with Hanley Ramirez's development and that this played into him being moved. If one believe's that this sentiment existed, than perhaps the trade was less of a case of accepting less long-term value for Ramirez than it was an error in judgement regarding just how good Hanley would become.
  16. Nice, Sean. It is a business where day to day activities result in hilarious stories. And I hear you on the sidearms...though I never carried, some of the projects we visitied were dreadful. The aptly named "Father Panik Village" in Bridgeport was about as bad as it gets here in CT. The question I always asked myself while going in there was "eye contact or no eye contact." I opted for eye contact...if I'm getting shot or stabbed I want it to be because I was a threat...not because I was a wus. Generally, in cheap suit and tie we were viewed as cops anyway and that kept us relatively safe, although despised.
  17. So true. I spent my first few years out of college in such a position and patience was a bad word. Never forget, we're in the office on a Saturday at month's end. We're trying to collect this one account that was about to go belly-up and in walks the borrower, out of the blue. This was when customer's actually still had account cards, so the receptionist asks "Does anyone have Bob Miller's card" (made up that name). One of my co-workers, not knowing the guy was in the office, stands up and says "Bob Miller? I have his card. That guy is a f***ing stiff." Bob Miller hears this and walks out saying "you'll never get another dime from me you *******s." The collection rep was soon after terminated. Classic.
  18. But of course I'm not bitter. Have a good weekend, 26.
  19. SCM, I would tend to agree with the assessment regarding the offense. I think they're too good not to break out in the heat of June, July, and August...that's my gut talking anyway.
  20. Adjust. The key word. Pitchers have adjusted to him, he needs to adjust to them. It's a bit like the circle of life, in fact I think that little cubby that Musafa held up at the cliff's edge was Dustin Pedroia. I can hear Elton John breaking into song now. OK, no I can't and I've gone too far, but it's Friday.
  21. I can't let this go. Just can't, it pains me so. Embree and Timlin were setting up Williamson come playoff time, And that fkn bullpen was lights out...unreal...IIRC their post-season stats up to that game were astounding. So here you sit, up 5-2, with that bullpen ready to go. Pedro had been hit fairly hard in the 6th and 7th. He was toast, and Little ingnores his bullpen. After the 7th, Nomar went to Petey and hugged him...he appeared to be all done. The body language exhibited by Pedro and his teammates said so. Then he takes the mound for the eighth and I'm screaming at the TV. I call a couple friends, they're reacting the same way. The network shows the Sox FO group and THEY TOO were shaking their heads and couldn't believe what they were seeing. The manager makes that call...not the pitcher. No way he should listen to his pitcher in that case when he can see with his own eyes that it's time to go to the 'pen. And this "go with your ace" ******** is a cop out. You go with the winning formula you've developed. That formula was Embree and Timlin, then Williamson. Not Pedro for the 8th and having him throw 110+ pitches. I've never heard that Little had been instructed to limit Pedro to 100 pitches. Little didn't need to be told, though, because everything that unfolded that evening (and that season for that matter) told him to go to the 'pen. Why he did not is anyone's guess. Is he that stupid? Did his pitching coach convince him to stick with Pedro, even as things fell apart in the 8th? Was it blind loyalty to his player? Was he tired of being f***ed with by the FO and said I'll show them by winning without adhering to their demands? Who knows. Still, hands down, the worst managerial move I've seen by a Sox manager and the most dissapointing and gut-wrenching game result I've ever experienced in all my years. f*** Grady Little and his apologists.
  22. Maybe part of the equation is that opposing pitchers/coaches have more info on how to pitch to him now?
