  1. If, say a few years ago, you told me that one day the Sox would have a 5-6-7 of Drew, Bay, Lowell I'd have thought you were crazy...that's damn solid, almost Yankee-ish (You know, those early decade teams that managed to win...uhhh...nothing?) However, I'm more concerned about our #1 and #3. Even in Ells' rookie year, including the playoffs where he put up some nice numbers, I've always thought he looks a little vulnerable at the plate. If he mans the spot well, it'll be huge for this offense, allowing Pedrioa to hit with guys on. If not, it changes the entire dynamic of the offense. As for Ortiz? My gut says we've seen the best of him, but I'm optimistically expecting something around a .270/27/100 campaign, with him playing 130 games or so and being banged up a bit by year's end. That's a decent #3 guy for some teams, not the kind of hitter I'd like to see in the 3-hole for the Sox though. I should say that I am partial, always have been, to having my best all around HITTER bat 3rd...that ain't Ortiz.
  2. I was talking to a friend who is a coach for a minor league team and who played in college in the early 80's. He's been around guys who've been in baseball since the 60's and says the general thought is that 'roids were being used in baseball throughout the 70's, then picked up steam in the late 80's and today there's just more high-tech stuff being used. I wouldn't doubt Brett could have dabbled, I've always suspected Ortiz, and I really don't care.
  3. Yeah awesome....I'm losing bad. Fkn Brodeur...9 goals in the last 2 games. I'm cooked.
  4. Stallworth could be majorly f***ed here.
  5. I'd say it's well within the realm of possibility, if not probability...I feel Tek will bring a whole lotta suck to the Sox this year.
  6. WTF, April Fools jokes? Do we have 3rd graders in this forum?
  7. Anyone see the Rangers-Devils the other night? Avery was up to his usual stuff, although I must admit he did play a good overall game. Anyway, he's doing the usual...poking guys after the whistle and jabbering all game...but somehow ducking a fight. Then he hammers someone who was very vulnerable and the Devils took the number. Later a Devil (Clarkson???) challenges him and Avery drops a glove but then won't fight..the Devil throws him down, picks him up, whips him down again, picks him up again, Avery is flying around like a rag doll, but won't fight...it was hilarious.
  8. Nice game by the B's, but TB just plain sucked last night. Couple interesting bouts last night...Lucic hits a guy once and the guy was like "no mas"...pretty funny.
  9. What the f***...why'd they choose Curt Schilling's body as the model for those pants?
  10. Dude, I hear you...the playoff format is a touch unfair, one bad week (after months of dominance) and you're out. Also, you could have a lot of your guys not playing (because their teams are inactive) while your opponent is loaded. Then again...tough s***. just kidding.
  11. Not at that price. I wonder if he had a NTC? Otherwise I'd have suggested they move him for a bag of balls and eat, say, $9m instead of $14m.
  12. "ARE YOU NOT VAGINALLY CLEANSED?"
  13. My team was built on goalies and last week I lucked out that brodeur's poor performance didn't kill me. This week, off to a good start. Good luck to ya...but not too much.
  14. Our league results did not tally last night. Hope it gets rectified, I've got a shoutout and 1.5GAA that'll be key to winning this week.
  15. By the way, is it just me or does Jeter look a lot skinnier this year...f***, one clip I saw made him look like he was 170 lbs...does this kid have the virus or something?
  16. WMP just plain sucks...let's not overanalyze him.
  17. In the championsip round...by default I think. I tied and because (I'm assuming) I had the higher seed I move on. Yet my opponent didn't start a couple of guys yesterday that might have made a difference. A somewhat hollow victory...but I'll take it.
  18. The boy's name Lars is of Scandinavian origin. Variant of Lawrence. Lars has 3 variant forms: Larsen, Larson and Larsson. Lars is a very rare male first name and a popular surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census). Hope that helps. By the way...Carsten Charles Sabathia? What the hell kinda name is "Carsten?" Luckily he can pitch otherwise I'm thinking the poor f***er ends up on the back of a milk carton with a name like Carsten.
  19. Right? WTF Hater? How could this be happening? Was supposed to be you and me for all the marbles, no???
  20. Ellsbury is HUGE to this team this year. If the Sox pitch well and get production out of the 1-slot, they've got a very legit shot. Wouldn't it be sweet to win a 3rd title this decade?
  21. Fkg Rangers sat Lundquist last night...that may have been the nail in my coffin. After running second all year, I'm not too psyched about the prospect of playing for 3rd next week.
  22. Munson only hit 20 Hrs once in his career, and in 1978 only had 6...and through July of 1979 he only had 3. I think the lack of power would have kept him from ever being considered in that upper echelon of catchers. That said , he was a good player. From 75 to 78 he averaged about 185 hits per season with about a .310 average. Very hard nosed, competitive guy, who I hated back in the day, but respected. He was slow as hell, though, I guess you could say he couldn't fly.
