If, say a few years ago, you told me that one day the Sox would have a 5-6-7 of Drew, Bay, Lowell I'd have thought you were crazy...that's damn solid, almost Yankee-ish (You know, those early decade teams that managed to win...uhhh...nothing?) However, I'm more concerned about our #1 and #3.
Even in Ells' rookie year, including the playoffs where he put up some nice numbers, I've always thought he looks a little vulnerable at the plate. If he mans the spot well, it'll be huge for this offense, allowing Pedrioa to hit with guys on. If not, it changes the entire dynamic of the offense.
As for Ortiz? My gut says we've seen the best of him, but I'm optimistically expecting something around a .270/27/100 campaign, with him playing 130 games or so and being banged up a bit by year's end. That's a decent #3 guy for some teams, not the kind of hitter I'd like to see in the 3-hole for the Sox though. I should say that I am partial, always have been, to having my best all around HITTER bat 3rd...that ain't Ortiz.
