  1. I need a strong week against Puck Yeah and maybe some help from Sumos to hold off the Red Wings and get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. I hope Brodeur's 6 goal performance last week was a fluke, goalies are the key to my team, that's what I built them around. I think last week I scored 4 or 5 goals...none by Savard, none for Getlaf, time to light the lamp, boys.
  2. Both probably juicers....anyone see a trend here?
  3. Jeez, is it genetics? Or could there be some other factor that makes ARod so superior in terms of being in shape?
  4. Missed the game. How bad was Fernandez? And anyone see the Thornton-Orr fight? I did pass by a tv when Drury scrapped with Krejci....Drury? Came over, dropped the gloves and was down on the ice in 2 seconds.
  5. It does make sense, and I kind of wondered myself if they'd go that route. Hell it's "only" $12m. On another note, Jacko's comment that the Yankees will fill holes internally (in the post hwere he mentions Matsui and Posada coming off the books in the next year or two) seems wrong to me. IMO, Matsui will likely be replaced by a big FA signing with Holliday (or Bay?) and I highly suspect that the Yankees will try and get Joe Mauer when he becomes available Why wouldn't they continue to flex their FA muscle?
  6. So if we look at the FA list for 2010 we can probably pencil in the Yankees new purchases to replace these players. Spending is something they'll always do, but you're right, the difference is that before they spent $$ no one else could, or would, to fill in holes with vets on teams that had a lot of homegrown talent...now they're building the core of the team on younger FA's and might fill in some holes with home grown guys...either way it's a mix of the two...and either way the formula is spend more than anyone else can.
  7. I am very confident that Albert Pujols has used.
  8. You know, that 6-3 final coulda been worse, there were a few categories that you just edged me in. But, that said.... I'm loising to fkn Pomenville this week...it's Friday and I'm down big time which means I'll likely lose 2nd and miss out on a bye in the playoffs. Not very f***ing happy right now, bro.
  9. Random thoughts and comments: HGH. Yeah, I said it, they don't test for it and it supposedly helps guys heal, could provide him enough benefit to get through the year. Hell, he's gonna use it anyway, so just up the dose. Can I ask someone to please tell me (a) how much Matsui makes per year and ( how it is that the Yankees can have these guys (Matsui and Damon, im particular) that even their own fans view as liabilities in the field, making over $10m per year? Jeeezus what the f*** is going on down there? I don't think the Yankees will have any trouble filling the hole...if they can get by till trade deadline time, they have the $$ to take someone's salary dump, while offering little in return in terms of prospects. Whoever they get won't be ARod of course.
  10. torn labia? that explains a lot.
  11. Beginning of the post-roid breakdown, a la Nomar?
  12. no he's going to start taking it in the ass instead of the mouth.
  13. Hope it's just a cyst. Cuz if he's growing another cock out of his hip from all the juice he did, that could be a more extensive surgery. Actually, now that I think of it...10 weeks? For a cyst? Wonder if something more is going on...s*** the Yanks don't even know what's happening yet. Is it just a cyst? Is it more serious? Was he tipped off about an upcoming test and maybe this gets him out of it? (don't know if anything like that prohibits a guy from being tested). I really can't believe anything I hear coming from this liar's camp, he's lost all credibility with 75% of MLB's fandom.
  14. Hughes making changes....BFD. Let me know when he's ready for more than a cup of coffee in the bigs. Didn't Yankee fans already slobber and drool over this kid enough last year and then see him fall apart?
  15. Carcillo is supposed to add some more toughness to the Flyers. Beyond the toughness he doesn't bring much. Not to say he can't play...they all can play to some extent or they would be in the NHL...but apparently the attraction to him is that he's a pest and he'll fight anyone. A couple of years ago he had something like 325 PIMs, most since Peter Worrell had in or around 2001. I just don't see that as a Flyers need, they play tough to begin with and they're in the top 3 teams in PIMs already.
  16. Aren't you all leaving out Andrue Jones in this discussion? I jest, sort of.
  17. As the dust settle on the deadline activity, did any team help themselves immensely in the pursuit of the 2009 Cup? I'm not blown away. Among the teams with better records in the league... Bruins - they appear to be better now than yesterday, but was it enough? I'm thinking the moves have a marginal impact on the team, maybe the emotion of the trades and the character of the guys they got are good for a few wins, but I don't think their a ton better than they were. Jersey - Nice pick up with Havelid...beyond that why tinker, they've been on fire. Brodeur still one of if not the best, they'll be tough to beat in the East. Caps - did they do anything? I believe they win a series or two then goaltending brings them down. Flyers - didn't improve themselves, IMO...just brought in a lunk. They're already one of the toughest teams, why they needed Carcillo, not sure...maybe to punch out Sean Avery? Sharks - not sure what their moves mean, but I still see them as a contender Detroit - quiet at the deadline and for good reason..they're still one of the best. Calgary - Adding Jokinen and Leopold was big. They improved the team, at least on paper, as much as any contender this year.
  18. Rangers pick up Morris for Prucha, Dawes and something else...if Morris is a FA after this year, I've got to question this move as they're a ways away from contending, IMO. Rangers also got Antropov for a couple of picks. Meanwhile, the Fyers, among the league leaders in fighting majors and PIMs picked up none other than Daniel Carcillo. He's got 3 goals, 7 assists this year...and 174 PIMs...and a -13 rating, which shouldn't be an issue because he'll probably be used sparingly...you knwo go out, start a fight, sit for 5 minuts in the box, head back to the bench. Don't understand that move, they're a tough team to begin with.
  19. I agree with your analysis...Karsums wasnt' going to be an impact player in Boston so it's Lashoff for Recchi and a 2 rounder. I like it. Both moves today scream CHARACTER. Recchi is a standup guy that does whatever his team needs him to do and always plays hard, often with a chip. Montador is the same way, always has his teammates' backs. Seems to me the B's still have chips to make a bigger splash.
  20. Nokie came over from the Isles in a trade that sent Ben Walter and a conditional 2nd round pick 2009 to the Island. So essentially what we've got here is Steve Montador for a second round pick this year. Monty has 125 PIMs this year, to go along with 4 goals, 16 assists. He's not the puck moving D-man the B's supposedly were seeking, but he is a tough player. I think this makes someone expendable...Hnidy or Hunwick? I hope the B's aren't done, would love to see some size upfront...they've been getting pushed around by the bigger teams (SJ, Philly).
  21. Agreed, but you have to find someone to take his salary. Krejci's performance of late has actually knocked his value down a bit, he continues on this path and he'll be a little cheaper to resign than he would have been based on his first half performance. The Leafs didn't play Nik Antropov in recent games, signaling that he may be moved today. I believe Kaberle is another guy set to move. I have no problem of the B's move Bergeron orAxelsson and perhaps one of their D-men if it means settign them up for a strong playoff push. s***, trade Fernandez too, I'm of the opinion that Rask will do just as well. Wouldn't midn seeing Neidermayer wearing the spoked B, he can still flat out fly and will play with a little chip sometimes too. B's need a puck moving D-man and some size and strength up front.
  22. Jeez...spending an awful lot of time and effort arguing against what you've declared is a dumbass prediction. Why?
  23. I know that this story has died down but I came across something not exactly related to ARod, but to the PED issue itself, and this was the most recent thread discussing PED's. Anyway, I'm talking to a guy at work, a big bastard, strong as an ox. I know him well and know he's used stuff in the past (he used to compete) so I kidded him saying I wondered if he was using the same sh*t as ARod. No he says, "I just go to this website and buy designer pro-hormones, they're legal and they work." So he says look here and pulls up a website where you can buy all of these pseudo-steroids. Remember Mark McGwire and the whole andro deal? Well apparently andro is illegal, but scientists have come out with a bunch of other steroid precursors that are stronger than andro but which have a slightly different chemical make-up so they're not outlawed yet. This guy swears by them. Now I have no idea if these "supplements" would trip an MLB drug test or not but if not, there is a ton of crap out there that can still be bought OTC and which would require nothing more than a PO box and a credit card. The reviews of this stuff sound like they're legit...shrunken nuts, bitch tits, acne experienced by some users...classic 'roid signs. The fact that this stuff is so openly available and that MLB still can't test for HGH tells me there are still going to be a lot of players using, staying one step ahead of the drug policy. I suspect ARod will be one of them.
