They're 8-7 against Arizona this year already though, so if they win out, and tie the DBacks for the division, don't they get in that way?

    I dunno. I kinda felt like they'd be the WC regardless. Man, I would love to see the Mets collapse. That would make me ridiculously happy.

    When is it OK to start criticizing Jason Varitek? I'm just wondering, because he and Youkilis put on the worst situational hitting display ever in the 9th. But hey, I'm perfectly happy letting others sit back and knock JD Drew. And yes, I'm aware Tek hit a home run tonight. Does it excuse his .215 average since the break?

    Padres win, Phillies win, DBacks win, Mets lose. Unreal. Brewers and Cubs lose, Cubs closing in. Rockies currently lead 3-2 in LAA.

    You can't really say that Lowell has had a huge season and then turn around and say Ortiz carried the lineup by himself. Ortiz has had a great year, and I do think that he's the MVP, but defense counts too. Lowell has 5.5 Win Shares on defense, while Ortiz has 0.1. Seems to me Lowell's overall game has put him on par with Ortiz's overall game this year, IMO. The only thing Ortiz is down in this year is home runs. OBP, OPS, XBH, look to all be new career highs for Ortiz. But I tend to agree, I just think Lowell gets more consideration because he plays defense and is having such a consistent offensive season.

    He has the most defensive Win Shares out of any outfielder in the MLB, trailing only Troy Tulowitzki (9.2), Kenji Johjima (9.1), Russell Martin (9), and Chris Snyder (8.8) for all MLB players.

    FWIW the Red Sox were 5-2 against CLE this season, and they beat Sabathia.

    Mariners won the nightcap last night, beating Borowski again. There is now a tie for the best record in the AL, and we own the tiebreaker.

    I don't know why ANYONE would prefer to see CC and Carmona in a short series.
