  1. if indeed we are preparing for the future then i say we take lester out of the rotation today and move him into a middle role put either hansen into the starters roll or perhaps we can put paples in that roll and use hansen as the closer that was their original intent i believe wasnt it?? i fear that in persuit of keeping payroll intact and trying to be competetive they may indeed blow one of these kids arms or heads away in the last 6 weks of the season and that my friends would be unforgivable
  2. god help me but i do enjoy his rage when damon comes to the plate and the joy he has in his eyes when manny and papi succeed hey its the girl i worry about more i wager a bit on nascar in our clubs pool and my 9 yr old daughter enjoys the races immensely which i find eery in its own behalf i took jjohnson over tonystewart yesterday and when jj slowed in the last 25 laps and tony was running 3rd she put a piece of left over steak in her tony stewart teddy bear that she won in the crane game and tossed the teddy bear outside into the dogs pen and walked away there was nothing left
  3. bill campbell in the pen the best 1-9 lineup since this edition of the yankees as well that teams 9 hitter was butch hobson and he hit 30hrs the only difference was that yankee team had much better pitching than we did despite the above mentioned starters our 06 sox arent to be mentioned with the collassal failures of 78 that team had more courage
  4. i had tix friday nite and sat afternoon the sox give up 7 runs in the 7th friday and the stadium breaks out into the wave in the 8th saturday after the yanks blew it open in the 6th 2 fukin queers with their pinky fingers in each others pockets, were doing the slow bump to journeys ""dont stop believin"" ive been to perhaps 250-300 sox games in my life ive left early maybe 4-5 times, once my wife collapsed from the heat.once she was covered in blankets in the cold and rain of april(shes out, never again to be invited) saturday i left in the 7th rather than maiming the 2 **********s who were dancing in front of me or commiting jihad in the press box which was my real intent on behalf of real fans everywhere and my 10 year old son i apologize, making my kid a sox fan is like forcing him to watch a violent R rated movie with an unhappy ending (except for those 10days in 04) faaaaaaaaaaaak what the faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak
  5. is this your retort?? have you seen his #s since he was 5-0 and this thread was created?? do you actually watch these games or do you read about them in the morning i never miss a chance to watch him pitch he WAS the most dominating athlete ive seen since marvin hagler retired the key word is WAS he is now very very beatable and has gotten his clock cleaned religiously since he went 5-0 out of the gate 95mph?? ha i didnt see him hit 90 in his last 5 starts and now hes shelved again sure they may be resting him but i doubt it very much hes hurting badly...very badly he's gone 7 innings once since june... once and it was in sandiego he hasnt pitched 30 total innings in 2 months hows that for value?? as far as wins go schilling and halliday were both hurt last season or we wouldnt be discussing this he came out this season like a house of fire but has gone 7 innings twice since may ended he had similiar problems in boston which would be magnified in the al east my friends http://sportsline.com/mlb/players/player/gamelogs/2006/7855 i love the guy but hes done as a stopper
  6. We need to cancel our season tickets and stop going to the games to get them moving faster. Of course no one will do that, so we will get jerked around like the closed-sale that we are. __________________ ha as long as the 16 year old girls from everett can replace their #19 pink shirts with paplebon pink shirts and the other sheep continue to buy into the ""poor mouth"" ******** thats being stuffed up their asses then the front office is safe economically
  7. tito used curtis leskanic in game 4,2004 down 0-3 against the yanks in xtra innings do we grasp how close we came to never hearing about a bloody sock becuase of titos quirky moves?? f*** him too
  8. brownie is a texan something very funny in the water down there, could be the pollution from mexico thats got him all f***ed up
  9. as long as 2,400,000 tickets are sold before xmas day?? the 19 different investors who make up this ownership group have won this is the bottom line jimma and its something i dont think many of our younger friends on board here understand from a competetive standpoint dare i say that the sox winning it all in 04 may indeed be the worst thing to happen to them?? as ryan said it gave the front office a free pass for years hence instead of getting a starter or a reliever or a bench player they went out and did nothing 3 men who were involved this weekend snyder johnson and vanburen all were waived by last place teams we(theo) however, deem them essential to our pennant run? did you hear ryan on sports reporters yesterday?? when asked how the ""fans"" would respond to a rebuilding year he immediatly went into a tirade about the ""fans"" "dont get me started"" he screamed at lupica ""these fans are there to be seen, fenway is like disneyland,if they cant wait for another winner then too bad""...did you see these ""fans"" friday nite, was that the wave i saw after the yanks hung 7 in the 7th inning"" indeed bobby indeed and this guy is another unofficial front office ballwasher as its their duty because the sox are owned by a division of the ny times which is also owns the globe but i did love the way he attacked the posers if our future is directly tied into lester hansen beckett and delcarmen then i think we have a bleak future indeed meanwhile 56 year old bloodied sock curt schilling and the older, more banged up david wells are pitching their balls off in the hope of getting another shot at october which i can honestly say is now a pipe dream
  10. i think petey is toast he cant break 90 on the gun his 692% translated into the al east would be .500 or worse the year he left he got beaten like a drum during the stretch run when was the last time he beat the yankees as a member of the sox?? for 15M per we need a guy who can beat them he couldnt in 04 and hes gotten worse since, not better meanwhile over in flushing meadows the mets are relying on maine orlando hernandez and stevie trachsel to get to october while glavine may be gone forever and petey rests his (1)toe (2)hip (3)calf (4)what next?? i love martinez,i despise what the front office stuffed up our asses in july but not paying petey was a good move
  11. whats this? no ellsburys murphys and pedroias on the above lists??
  12. the yankees are a soft ball team that will be happy to get to the playoffs but we all know theyre not going anywhere they beat up suck pitching everyone does but teams like anaheim shut them down all the time because they pitch well we dont thats why we're not going anywhere the yanks dont pitch well either thats why they aint going anywhere as well
  13. theos future team was out in full force under the brite lites this weekend in the immortal words of ty webb ""be...be your future"" see,see your future impressive display by the not ready for prime time youngsters jon ""cher"" lester maybe ruined forever,he hasnt thrown a breaking ball for strike in 3 weeks hansen isnt ready,he may never be if i wanted to watch arms develop i wouldnt pay 125.00 face value for a seat i'd instead move my tickets to pawtucket all of you who cant wait for next year....... congradulations its a bit early but its here and for the rest of us who thought we had a chance?? tuff s*** the bottom line mattered more than a pennant run i have to laff down 14-10 on friday evening the ""fans"", most of whom were wearing pink hats were intensley involved in doing the wave hopefully they tank bad enuff where these f***ing posers will stay away from the park forever but at least we got wily mo
  14. what is so hard to grasp?? they have a limited payroll and they did well drafting pitchers y'all think this s*** is rocket science? hes in the hunt now what does he do to improve his team?? put zito on the market?? that oughta pack em in that oughta get the season ticket holders beating down the door for next year ""HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT UNDERSTAND"" ya put randy velarde and matt stairs types behind cy young winners and you'll win a few no s*** eh put me and 8 of my beer buddies behind cy young winners and you'll win almost as many gimme a call when billy beane wins something outside the al west until then dont bust my balls about billy beanes genious the man hasnt done anything that hasnt been done before except lose in the 1st round with 3 cy young candidates starting for him have you taken this into consideration or do i fail to understand this as well?? im not arguing about their small market status but heres some #s jason kendall is making 11.4 mill this year chavez 9.5 esteban loaiza is making 6 kotsay 7 everybodys friend jay payton makes 4 5,000,000 tied up in mark ellis and joe kennedy theyre payroll is well over 60M i think they had room to at least try and keep tejada at least insult him with a low ball offer for chissakes before you build the billy beane wing in cooperstown shouldnt he at least win a f***in playoff series that hes a 4-1 favorite in as he was in 02??
  15. when billy beane wins something in his life i'll buy it until then its useless fiction i mean really do AL WEST DIVISION CHAMPION banners impress you that much or was it scott hattebergs success in oakland that did it?? i maitain and reiterate again billy beanes success is based on his pitchers being healthy when they spoke of the big 3 i dont recall frank menechino and randy vellarde on the list nor do i believe i'd build a team around matt stairs if i were a gm i wouldve found a way to keep tejada on my team for 12M a year i dont dispute the mans ability to judge talent,or is it value,or whatever you choose to call it i do think hes underachieved based on the players hes had over the years
  16. the season is 6 mos long not 4 if it was 4 he'd be considered for cy young rookie of the year etc if he crashes and burns due to mental fatigue or injury in the next 50 days?? he dont earn s*** liriano will be watched closely by the twins for the rest of the year verlander got scratched his last time out as well jenks meanwhile has kept plugging along and he saved the whitesox last summer in case anyone forgot they were using dustin hermanson as a closer for a while there
  17. fair enough i enjoy the back and forth sir and certainly dont think i invented the game i do watch almost every inning the sox play and am a big fan of my local high school and american legion teams i watch most of their home games with my kids. i like the nl speed game better than the old sox style of softball like teams. speed never slumps and its a valuable offensive asset when facing stud pitchers so is bunting, hit and running etc.... i love to put pressure on the other teams defense and pitching staff and thats a quality i dont find in the money ball style of the game. hey 6 in 1 1/2 dozen in the other when the sox win i rarely bitch about anything when they lose 2 in kc i want to stab my secretary i rarely get involved in the petty ******** squabbles with fellow sox fans nor does my esteemed collegue and very accomplished ball player in his own right mr rician im 40 years old ive havent witnessed many teams win without a deep pitching staff including the bullpen i believe pitching wins in baseball above and beyond all else and i dont believe in dealing it under any circumstances for anything other than other pitching.
  18. not once did i question billys ability to evaluate talent my only bone of contention with billy is hes being labeled a genious without winning s*** and has been blessed with an incredible amount of luck via the health thing i think i grasp the basic concept of moneyball and i do understand the limitations of small market baseball to a certain extent carl pohlad maybe the richest owner in baseball he owns the twins and cries poor who owns the a's?? mc hammer?? anyways i have a problem with computers and adding machines replacing men with vision when it comes to building a baseball team the little things get missed when it comes to money ball i fear intangibles arent a thing that can be used on a calculator
  19. chad bradford?? did you forget us fans here in boston had the misfortune of having him here last summer?? pay attention for a minute here billy beane drafts very very well, hes got an eye for talent or as you call it value. billy beane has had a remarkable run of drafting arms that have stayed healthy really i cant think of any catastrophic injuries occuring to mulder hudson or zito while they were in oakland, isringhausen was at his best while closing in oakland too. look at his picks and how durable theyve been thru the years its rather amazing and this in my opinion is the reason for the his success although you cant help but like the kotsays and the crosbys and the swishers of the league as well. based on this fact alone the a's have had a lot of regular season success playing in the american league west its no mystery its no epiphany of a new way to play to the game either it is what it is a theory that subscibes to low market ball clubs the a's have been succesful because they pitch very well sir this isnt a mystery its how its been done since abner doubleday invented the game their pitching has been healthy and they play in a pitchers ball park however once they see the big boy shows in boston ny or even st paul?? they fold their tents and go back to the bay with their asses handed to them the next time i get an urger to read the national enquirer i will pick up this money ball book that y'all consider your bible....i like good fiction from time to time bottom line billy boys a's have been successful because they pitch very well and have had a remarkable run of good health with their young arms over the years and this is due to a gm that is good in evaluating talent i wont take that away from him,,nobody can
  20. ha i never thought of that sir i'd prefer wily put about 500hrs and 1200rbi on the board before they give him his own chatroom full of nerds sissies and child molesters im not fond of that place
  21. phil plantier is the guy i'd compare to wily mo pena most him or sam horn
  22. are you testing me on my baseball knowledge?? money ball is a concept of using obp and ops rather than a stop watch and other pertinent stats like batting avg and rbi's which are dismissed money ball has no room for the dave roberts of the league kevin youkilis would be a prized possession in money ball it doesnt steal bases it doesnt bunt either it dont worry about strikeouts bill james and billy beane i believe are the premier architechts of the stats system that you call money ball to evaluate talent. the book was writtne by michael lewis essenially pontificating all thats billy beane i believe i didnt read it i knew enough of the great billy beane after the twins removed them from the 02 season as the a's were heavy favorites to win it all the next billy beane playoff series victory will be his 1st ya limited payroll ya hes in the barbed wire capitol of america ya oakland is the worst city in america not named newark i also didnt read HOW THE UFOS BROUGHT DOWN THE TOWERS either i find them both to be absurd i find money ball flawed and i think that billy beane and the a's,despite having tremendous regular season success just like the atlanta braves, have greatly underachieved every fall just like the atlanta braves with the exception of the 95 season and tommy glavines game 6 shut out the braves are the buffalo bills X14 moneyball does nothing for me i prefer small ball or the speed game personally and anyone who thinks the team with the 2nd highest payroll in the game is playing moneyball needs an education in arithmetic.
  23. never say never that being said so long as 20+ teams remain in the hunt at the allstar break there is interest in the game most teams are still in it few have a realistic shot of winning but as long as theres a glimmer of hope the people will come
  24. jon lester was beaten by the kc royals last nite sir we're 3-7 in tampa we were 1 bob wickman deal away from being swept by cleveland who came into fenway at a blistering 4-12 pace after the all star break the royals also shoudlve taken 2-3 against us. nobody is comparing arroyo to cy young he is what he is a usefeful inning eater who's cheap and infinitley more useful than jj johnson corey snyder and the lenny dinardos of the world
