    back in the late 70s the yanks had a psuedo closer by committee that they adopted from the reds who used rawley eastwick and will mcenearney in sparkey andersons bullpen the yanks would use lyle and gossage depending on the scenario i recall lyle pitching against righties and gossage against lefties late in games did i mention the sox used calvin schiraldi in 1986 and got within 1 strike of winning it all??

    I like watching nl baseball as well despite the talent level being about the same as american legion baseball i find it fascinating to watch the pirates play the rockies in september in front of 1400 people who were given tickets. seriously the national league is a f***ing joke,dh or no dh the dodgers would be battling the drays if they were in the al east

    agreed and heres another example of why you cant rush these guys along sure he throws 100 but he needs to develop some off speed stuff,learn to pitch inside and maybe shave a couple times before he comes back up to the show

    well mr crespo the last images i have of game 6 were the pictures that NBC showed of schiraldis wife and the woman?? who i can only describe as a bastard offspring of the fabulous sports babe and marty feldmans daughter who sat behind homeplate and was rolling her arms real fast i havent s*** solid since nor has my ex who i hung out a 4story window by her ankles as she laffed in my face when buckner blew the play at 1st....i think my father was disappointed i didnt drop her there isnt a judge or jury between stamford ct and ft kent maine that wouldve convicted me

    jackson as an astute man as yourself knows we had calvin schiraldi close for us 1 summer and we ended up with a 2 run lead with 2 out 2 strikes and nobody on base in the 10th inning up 3-2 in game 6.

    anyone remember lachelle tarver?? how about michael""prime time"" coleman?? these men were cant miss centerfielders with blinding speed in tarvers case i believe he went 22/23 steals in pawtucket coleman,by all accounts was a 5 tool monster i dont think they had 100abs combined in the majors as far as the jake having issues with running he will learn to read pitchers better as he gets older he probably never had any teaching on the subject of base stealing as he relied on his wheels to get it done,pro ball is a different level of speed that this guy hasnt gotten accustomed to yet.

    y'all could be right or he could go 3-58 in rhode island and find himself shucking long neck clams in beales island maine by july 4th wondering why he cant catch up to the AAA fastballs. we got crisp on the cheap and we got him for a while coco wont be going anywhere if he performs like hes capable and should if he dont?? then the jake gets a pop along with wily mo however the jake maybe a tasty treat along with one the young arms for a team looking for some speed and prospects in the pitching department too early to tell i do like the depth,especially in this injury prone outfield which figures to occupy the trainers room for long stretches at some point this summer if im gambling i say crisp is here playing full time this summer and the jake is in the weight room just north of providence trying to bench press his way into the big show

    the nl west is what i refer to as AAAA ball of the 4 nl west teams,all would have a hard time getting by tampa bay to finish out of the al east cellar

    from what ive read stat wise about ellsbury he has all the power of....david eckstein that said those #s will improve as he climbs the ladder i find it overly optimistic to have him in centerfield next year coco will bounce back this year its hard swinging a bat with a finger thats dislocated and needs surgery what was unsettling about crisp was his glove work and more specifically how he broke on hard liners i look for good things from him this year and i think the jake will be in pawtucket early in 07 then will be brought up when the rosters hit 40 for the run of course seeing that our outfield missed a collective?? i dunno,seems like 300 f***ing games anyways last year?? the jake may indeed be patrolling centerfield before we know it i do like the depth

    after watching lidge meltdown then finally lose his job in houston i dont think hes mentally capable of pitching here in the al east unless its in tampa. i would trade pena for him in a minute however i do think he can get people out,just not consistant enuff 2b a closer

    the yanks dumped contreras cause we owned his ass here in boston georgie felt like a fool watching this guy get annilihated every time he pitched against the sox... when he went to chicago and his family finally all made it out of castros gulag he didnt have the likes of little joel sherman and mike the puke lupica calling out his courage on a daily basis hence his recovery none of us here know what matsusaka will deliver to the table in a league where tuffy rhodes hits 50 hrs its impossible to predict a 20w 200k 2.50 era and in a league where gabe kapler and lou merloni couldnt hit kate holmes weight its impossible to say he will do an irabu or worse if he wins 15,pitches 200 innings and gives us a 4.00 era im pleased anything above is gravy anything less will be a let down but not totally unexpected either

    let me get this straight for a moment you dont like what the man says so rather than attack his words or debate him civily or privatley messaging your distaste to him you tell the moderators?? how exactly do you word this s***? ""he hurt my feelings please make this stop"" or like the snot nosed kid in school who needed a lot of attention ""she beat me repeatedly and called me a faggot"" do you have a hyphenated name or were you raised by 2 moms?? this is a redsox forum but the debate would be none if the yanks or other baseball fans weren't here to offer their opinions. i worry about the future of this nation

    i like delcarmen and i think he's going to be a good 7th inning guy i think timlin will be effective if he doesnt have to pitch daily he went into the WBC with a dead arm in march and w the lefty from japan may be a blessing in matchup situations but theres no closer as of yet and that as we know is the end all be all of the bullpen look for matt clement to have a riveraesque season with 68 saves

    how much blame should the bullpen hold when our 4-5 pitchers couldnt reach the 4th inning most of the time?? the pen was taxed ad nauseum due to the injury to wakefield and the arroyo deal thats 250 innings of 4.5 era that was lost then replaced by the kason gabbards and jj johnsons of the world say what you want about wake and arroyo but those men eat innings something that the lenny dinardos and dee snyders of the world fail to do this season our 4-5 starters should be able to perform at a much higher level than the scatine we threw out there last year making our pen stronger by less use

    as a young kid i liked the reds in the nl becuase they had several mvp's on that team and most resembled the sox uni's they had bench rose perez and morgan we had....yaz,kenny harrelson rico and joe foy in october 1975 i burnt all the reds baseball cards i had and my 2nd favorite team or my nl team if you will,scorned me to the point where i hate them all but boston

    if this guy goes back to japan without a contract it will be boras last man in the far east they have this cultural concept of shame and greed which doesnt apply here in america and it certainly dont apply to the agents after the seibu lions threw a going away party for this guy and he said all the right things about his future and his past he will look like a complete douchebag if he turns down a 40M deal that being said if the sox dont offer this guy decent money their reputation in the same land will be toast as well the sox need to get it together this is speculating that the sox will indeed make an offer thats more in line with the jd drews of the world than the matt clements i have no idea what the mindset is on yawkee way these days,none but i do need to think that they will offer this guy ""drew"" money before thursday

    pena wont get 250abs this season due to drew signing and manny staying put unless injury happens this is whats mind boggling we deemed wmp as the right fielder and traded a 200ip/15 win guy for him then we go and pull his playing time from under him at the cost of 70M for a guy who wont approach him power wise.... and any possible development with this kid is now going to be retarded unless hes dealt we couldve kept nixon and wmp and gotten another arm rather than dropping 14M per on drew... pena will outhomer drew in 1/2 the ab's for 10% of the money i dont understand the mindset

    well obrien had the ball on the nc state 30 with 2 to play,2nd and short he ran toal on a 2 dive 3xs in a row and failed then he went prevent defense with less than a minute to play 4 plays later nc state was celebrating miami didnt beat anyone of substance all year and thanksgiving they show up our guys didnt bc outweighed wakes dline by 40lbs a man ryan ended up throwing way too much in a game that was decided by 4 points and bc turning the ball over inside wakes 30? if i recall with less than a minute to go anyone of these 3 games bc couldve and shouldve won with a victory in any of these games they end up in the acc championship game against gtech and at least they play in the gator bowl now?? now they go to this s*** game against a service academy he is a good man a good recruiter but he plays not to lose rather than to win
