  1. did you notice the scoring change in our football matchup? It was so close that the slight adjustment changed a win to a loss for me.
  2. You got that right.
  3. Ratings were near zero. That's all MLB cares about. A Pittsburgh-KC Series would be a nightmare for MLB. LOL!! Therefore, I am rooting for that.
  4. Lmao @ A's! I hate Oakland and I have always hated the A's. I am also glad that Lester will not be working deep into the post season and wearing out his arm for next season. I want him to be in top form when we face him with the Yankees. LOL!
  5. Barnes, Craig, and Middlebrooks might get you Jason Hamel, not Cole, even if Owens isw part of the package. The Phillies have 2 young third basemen that are better than WMB. Craig stinks, and Barnes meh.
  6. The more payroll we take the less we would have to pay in talent. From what I have been reading is that the Phillies are more interested in getting a haul of talent than in salary relief.
  7. True, good point. But I don't think we have 2 guys to net us Hamels outside of Betts and either Owens or Swihart.
  8. Maybe you get Hamels for all 4 of them. Take Swihart out of that mix, and you have to add in Owens or Betts to go with 2 of the other 3. A blue chipper in my mind is a guy who can get you a starting major leaguer without adding to the deal. That is my definition. An example of what I am talking about is Wil Myers for James Shields. We don't have anyone other than Betts or Owens who can get us someone of that caliber. If we don't want to part with either of them, don't expect any big trades unless guys are included from our major league roster.
  9. Trading Victorino for pennies on the dollar would be silly since he is the best OFer on the team when healthy. If healthy, making him a 4th OFer is even silier.
  10. Clearly, I do follow their prospects. If you want to net Cole Hamels, it will cost Betts or Owens and a handful of the others. The others are not blue-chippers. They would be second or third pieces in a larger package. Cole Hamels is not Heathcliff Slocumb.
  11. Unfortunately, the FO has put themselves in a position where they have very few trade chips. Betts and Owens are about all we have. No one is going to call and inquire about Bradleyor Middlebrools. And any offers that we get for XB will be lowball offers. I wouldn't espxpect much help through trades unless Betts or Owens are part of it. I like Betts too, but I think we are so excited about him because of the contrast between his play and the other guys who were busts this year. I don't know if Betts 2014 was any more impressive than XB 2013, so I will temper my enthusiasm and I will not be too upset if he nets us Cole Hamels.
  12. The Rays got beaten like a drum again this season. Toronto waited years for their young talent to develop. It never did as they sat at the bottom of the standings. I like Betts, but HOF aspirations might be a little premature. Bag well was traded for a middle reliever, Larry Anderson who pitched for us for a month. We didn't get a couple of years out of a top starter.
  13. Others will argue with you for the sake of arguing or out of sheer stupidity, but you are right. I saw a big downturn coming but not this kind of debacle, simply because I didn't think Cherrie s would let Bradley, XB and Middlebrooks have so much rope. I thought that he would have done something to stop the bleeding early on. In 2013, everything went right. Even that bum Buchholz came out of the box with an 11-0 record. We were in first place with our best hitter on the DL throughout April. It was a storybook season. You leave out the fact that the World Series opposing manager continued to pitch to the insanely hot Ortiz even though no one else in the lineup was producing. He beat them singlehandedly. When Matheny finally stopped pitching to Ortiz, the others started to hit. I guess that Cherries thought he found some sort of secret for success. He did not.
  14. ALDS Tigers over A's A's over Angels NLDS Dodgers over Cards Nationals over Giants ALCS Tigers over A's NLCS Dodgers over Nationals World Series Dodgers over Tigers
  15. There will be a lot of competition for the premium arms and the prices will be very high. After the record breaking debacle of 2014, there is no appetite for whining excuses about cost. Cherrington needs to re-establish the team's competitiveness and he needs to maintain consistent competitiveness. Cherrington's extreme inconsistency from year to year calls into question his ability to do the job. Like major leaguers have to be consistent performers to stick in the majors, the same goes for GMs. Another last place finish by Cherries and he will be the GM in the Independent League. 2014 was embarrassing and shameful, especially in light of their bloated payroll.
  16. He has no shaot at playing second base, and they did not give him an audition at 3rd base, so he is either slated for the OF or a trade. The OF is starting to get overcrowded with Cespedes, Castillo, Victorino, Craig, Betts, and Nava. Nava will be the first casualty, and Craig and Victorino will be trade bait. Personally, I would hate to see Victorino go and Craig looks like a shot player.
  17. I was hoping that Buchholz would have a healthy succesful season in 2014 and that the FO would capitalize on his renewed value and traded him. He is too inconsistent and he periods of good performance are too infrequent. After this season, he has little trade value. They should pencil him in as a 4th or 5th starter and hope they get lucky with him in 2015.
  18. There are plenty of upscale suburban communities within reasonable driving distance of Yankee Stadium.
  19. When I last looked, I was leading by less than a point. Sometimes there are scoring changes that can move the numbers a little bit, so I wasn't sure if it was official. I have 2 fantasy teams in Football. Before yesterday, one was 3-0 and the other 0-3. I liked my 0-3 roster better than the other team. Football fantasy is much harder to predict than baseball. You really did a great job in baseball from the draft right through your weekly management of your roster. I usually do better at the ongoing management than at the draft.
  20. in 36 plate appearances he matched the HR power output of Middlestinks in 234 plate appearances and he hit more Home Runs than Automatic Out Jr in 423 plate appearances. Those 2 bums combined for 3 homers in 657 PAs and they both hit under .200 with OPS around .530. That would kill any teams' offense. Neither of them will be around Fenway next season. They both exhausted their many chances.
  21. The 2013 team was without Ortiz for the month of April and Pedroia played that whole season with an injured thumb. They also lost Buchholz for half of the season after starting out 11-0. Injuries were not really a factor in 2014.
  22. The owners need to take a good hard look at the FO. This was the worst fall off by a World Championship team except for the 1998 Marlins who systematically sold off all the players from the 1997 championship team. What the marlins management did was universally thought to have been a travesty. Our FO fielded pretty much the same team as the 2013 team, but without Ellsbury. They can't blame injuries. Other than Victorino, they didn't have a tough time with injuries. They rolled the dice with too many rookies and young players and they stuck it out too long with them as they were crashing and burning. The result was that they blew up the 2014 team. The did a terrible job with the roster this year.
  23. Its an undignified casdh grab that detracts from the purpose of the team.
