  1. Two pitchers with bad win/loss records, but I would take Quintana over Porcello if I were betting. I am not betting, and we got destroyed two nights in a row, so maybe their hitters are tired.
  2. Speak with respect about Red Sox Champions
  3. It looks like he is headed to the 7 Day Concussion DL, but it is not official.
  4. From what we have seen thus far, he is not worth more money than Abreu or Puig. Right now, I am hoping that he can handle a platoon role and not get injured. I am not convinced that they couldn't have found his caliber of player without spending all the dough. I really don't care much about the $ as the team has plenty of it. I just expected more from him. I didn't expect him to be an All Star, but so far we have gotten nect to nothing out of him.
  5. I can understand Papelbon making the trade conditional on closing. He is concerned about his career. The Nats could have said no and pursued another arm. The Nats agreed after speaking with Storen, but I could see Storen being resentful. He has done the job and earned the spot. If Papelbon does the job, there should be no problem, but if he blows one or 2 there could be grumblings. I was surprised to read that Papelbon is the career saves leader for the Phillies as well as for the Red Sox.
  6. I agreed with you in another thread too. This team has forced Red Sox fans to unite.
  7. When I heard about the play on the radio on the drive home last night, I thought the same thing. If a player carries the ball out of bounds, there is a ground rule. I though it was two bases. Very surprising ruling. I have never heard of that rule prior to last night.
  8. Maybe a bit too optimistic. LOL!
  9. I heard the explanation that on a play in the outfield it is not considered to be a catch until the fielder attempts to take the ball out of the glove. I had never heard that before. Control is not enough.
  10. They were both past their primes, but having Pedro and Schilling at the top of our rotation in 2004 was pretty enjoyable.
  11. He was a treat. I saw a lot of the greats from the Mid-60's on. I never saw Koufax in person and I don't remember seeing him on TV. He retired when I was 7 years old. Pedro was an event. The whole town buzzed on days he pitched.
  12. I heard on the radio on the way home that he is having concussion symptoms.
  13. Betts? Did he run into a wall?
  14. MVP should have made the thread. It was the best shot we had on Pedro's night. Glad that I am at the Mers game watching two good pitchers-- Syndegard and Shields. Remember, if you take away Miley's bad starts, he's a #3. I was going to check in occasionally, but I don't think so. Have a nice night.
  15. Good point. He is an icon for a generation of Sox. It would be a PR nightmare of he hit # 500 for another team. Not to mention the loss of revenue.
  16. I agree. That is the conundrum. If he stays healthy he is productive and the team wants to keep him. If he gets injured, they wan to trade him but they can't.
  17. DO you think Ortiz would waive the 10-5 rights?
  18. This is following the Omar Minaya theory of building a bullpen which was get relievers that had a good track record after they have had an off year. It really never worked for the Mets. The most significant piece of news in this is that Buchholz has been moved to the 60 day DL meaning that his earliest return date is now September 9th.
  19. The scouting department probably needs to be upgraded and that is also the GM's resposibility. There are probably some exceutives out there tht had been GMs that would take the job.
  20. I am pretty sure that we can finish last 3 out of 4 years without him.
  21. Yes but we beat them out for Josh Rutledge. We are building for the future.
  22. he recently said that he was going to finish his career in Boston when asked about the possibility of being traded. I took that to mean that he would veto a trade.
  23. Ortiz has a 10 and 5 veto.
  24. What is with this last place stuff. Why are we having to get used to finishing last like that should be a normal occurrence? I have been a fan since 1967 and before these three last place finishes, I think there was one last place finish under coke-head Hobson. Finishing last with regularity is not something that should occur with this franchise. Ben got two mulligans -- one for the blame it on Theo and Bobby V year in 2012 and another in 2014 for winning the Championship in 2013. He is out of mulligans. It is time to count his strokes and he doesn't make the cut.
  25. I just don't think that Ben has clue with regard to building sustainable success. He has wasted a ton of money. We could have finished last with a $70 million payroll. It cost him $200 million/year to stay in last place 2 years in a row. That is astounding. On what planet do you do the Porcello contract? Planet Ben in the outer reaches of the Universe. How is Castillo deserving of a bigger contract than Jose Abreu or Yasiel Puig? He isn't. What the heck was he thinking about giving away a solid proven starter in Lackey getting paid the minimum wage for Joe Car Wreck Kelly and AAAlan Craig? Who pays a human meatball $95 million to play third base for their team? Who pays $100 million to an infield to play the OF for you when he has never played there before? The answers to all these questions are the same, and yes, this is bitching, but there is a lot to bitch about.
