  1. Bells, I think the stench permeates the organization. They need a housecleaning and new leadership.
  2. What is sad was my stupid optimism at the beginning of the season. At least, I can admit it. That shouldn't insult you.
  3. no one is being singled out, and I include myself in that group to an extent as I also fell prey somewhat to those distorted lenses. So chill.
  4. This is very odd timing since Hutchinson has had two very solid outings including a very strong 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees yesterday giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk.
  5. Agreed. They have the unfortunate luxury of having 6 weeks to make these determinations. If they wait until the offseason, and then tell us that hanley should be able to play 1B because he is athletic and is by trade an infielder that would be ridiculous. Similarly, they need to figure out if Kelly has any useful role on the 2016 staff. Starting is out. No way no how can he be a starter, so let's see him work out of the pen.
  6. FG is clearly a field goal. B-R ... ? Bedroom?
  7. I wanted to be hopeful. I looked at their stats and their advanced stats. I found nothing encouraging. I asked the board of they had any advanced metrics that would give us hope. All I got back was explanations and theories about how the move to hitter friendly Fenway backed by the Red Sox superior defense would improve this group. I wasn't encouraged. I was told that Masrerson would return to effectiveness as he was healthy again. I watched him hitting 83-88 on the gun in spring training. I was not encouraged. I was told that Porcello was young and his best years were ahead. After 6 full seasons and a 4.40 ERA, I was dubious. What were the hopeful metrics that I missed? I would still like to know. It appears to me that there was a lot of baseless hope compounded by a really really stupid contract.
  8. Everyone gets hopeful at the beginning of the season, because we are fans and we want our team to have a chance, but any optimism over this staff at the beginning of the season was not through rose colored glasses but rather through stupid spectacles. Knowledge and sound judgment were disregarded.
  9. All the signs were there about the 2015 starting rotation except an actual neon stadium sign that said they suck.
  10. Shhh! We don't want to start a war (small "w") with those who think those of us who watch all the games don't also look at or understand stats inluding W.A.R.
  11. Sometimes the most logical explanation is the most obvious one. This group had done terribly in the prior year. Any assumptions that they would improve were clearly erroneous.
  12. And how did that deeper digging work out? LOL!! They dug in the wrong spots.
  13. Here is an inconvenient fact for those who thought that our current team ERA of 4.63 was completely unforeseeable. The combined ERA of Miley, Porcello, Buchholz, Kelly and Masterson in 2014 was 4.55. This year's 4.63 was probably within the margin of error. It was not unforeseeable. It was in fact predictable.
  14. I wanted to understand whether you thought it was a significant point in explaining why he would stink at 1B. In my mind, whether his air headedness is deliberate or not really has no significance at all with regard to why he will stink at 1B.
  15. I am not saying Manny hould have won a gold glove, but he was much better than Hanley.
  16. The offense is #3 in the league. The pitching stinks. There is no enigma.
  17. BTW, you have stated that but for the poor offense in May, that the Red Sox would have been in first place at the All Star break.
  18. He is a power hitter and he said that he wanted to play for us.
  19. So, you no longer maintain the position that our last place position is enigmatic? BTW, you have stated that but for the poor offense in May, that the Red Sox would have been in first place at the All Star break.
  20. No, it is not about that. Manny played shallow and got to a lot of balls that since he left have fallen in as base hits. He also had a pretty good idea of how to play caroms off the wall, and while he had only average arm strength, he got rid of the ball very quickly and he was pretty accurate. He was far better than Hanley.
  21. Manny was Yaz compare to Hanley. But I do agree that his offense does not justify or make up for his defensive shortcomings, which is why I think they need to shed him.
  22. The discussion was regarding whether he could play 1B. I say give it a shot in 2015 to see if it is a possibility. You were skeptical because of his lack of focus, which you stated was not intentional. No one else brought up either his lack of focus and whether or not it is deliberate. I asked you why intent was important. That is how it started.
  23. No one ever accused him of deliberately being a malcontent, so why bring it up?
