He has no track record of being anything more than a #4/5 starter in 7 full major league seasons. To expect him to turn into a top of the rotation guy at this juncture is laughable.

In any regard, signing Porcello early was no coup, and it really had very little possibility of being a big coup. His stuff just isn't there to be anything more than a #4/5 guy. It just isn't there.

They didn't get hm at a discount. They actually set a new pay level for #4 starters. A number of similar pitchers, who had better years than Porcello in 2015, signed for less money than Porcello's extension.

Kimmi, you can't play the game as a third baseman at 295 lbs. when you are under 6' tall. You can't. He needs to take off at least 20 lbs. There is no chance that needs to be given. You can't perform at that weight.

I see no change of philosophy other than playing the best players regardless of contract size, which is the way it should be. Playing the big contract guys despite subpar performance is not patience. It is stubbornly clinging to a hope that they will justify the money you gave them -- a way of saving face. I see no other change of philosophy. There have been no aging pitchers given huge contracts. DD has spent far less than the amount squandered by Ben (around $351 million on Hanley, Pablo, Porcello, Castillo and Craig). I see no evidence of a 180 degree change of philosophy. There is no evidence of that.

This confirms what I thought -- that even if he went top shelf for the whole thing, it would be chump change compared to his contract. He has no excuses. He just didn't care enough to get in shape. It is that simple. Kimmi would have us believe that he was held down and force fed, but the reality is that he has no excuses. The blame is all his.

The agent was following orders. The agent doesn't care if he is playing in year 2 of his contract. He just wants pablo to keep cashing his check and paying the agent his cut. He just doesn't want Pablo to die of a fat embolism before the contract runs out.
