  1. Pomeranz is pitching against Kershaw today. An added bonus is that you get to listen to Vin Scully.
  2. The ALE in those last place years was not all that. The West division and Central division was kicking our ass.
  3. I disagree. Last place seasons are like a living hell. You can't make the playoffs every year, but you want to watch competitive meaningful baseball into August and hopefully September. In those last place years, there was no competitive meaningful baseball throughout most of the season.
  4. The Boston weather forecast looks very bad. I don't think they can get this game in.
  5. i think Cherington will continue to be a dead horse topic, because he presided over a very bizarre period in Red Sox history -- a cherished World Championship sandwiched between 3 disastrous s*** show last place finishes in which there were no meaningful August games.
  6. I have 7 Great Nephews and 3 Great Nieces, but no grand children yet.
  7. The bogey was a 4 ERA. I am not taking that bet again. He is pitching very well, but hoping for an ERA under 4 is probably too much to hope for. I would be extremely happy with an ERA around 4 and 200 innings. That would be very solid production.
  8. What do people think about Logan Verrett on the Mets? Mets fans that I know like him a lot. I wonder what his price tag would be. He's 25 years old, so the Mets will not be looking for him to wait to step in as their top 4 leave for free agency in a couple of years.
  9. When Joe Morgan started off as an announcer, he had excellent insights into the game. He would often be able to analyze the game spot on several innings in advance. He had a great sense of the game, but those skills eroded rapidly at some point and his broadcasts were very subpar.
  10. Hanley has pulled a one or two rocks on the bases, but he has made things happen on the bases too. I like his base running. I think that his speed is still a useful weapon.
  11. It will be disappointing if this game gets rained out especially since this is a very good time to be playing the Yankees. In another month or so, they may be playing much better.
  12. Why should he admit anything? He made a clean sweep on his Porcello bets last year, including one against me. With regard to my bet, does anyone know a legal way to send American beer to Mexico? I also noticed that iortiz has not been offering Porcello bets this year. What was the Bogey on those bets -- a 4 ERA?
  13. And for a major league player, they have to do a tremendous amount of physical drudgery to stay ready to play.
  14. I think Hanley is still capable of premier offensive production, and he looks just fine at 1B. Also, he is in exellent condition and is quicker than last year. He is stealing bases and running the bases very well. If he gets injured, we have various depth options like Sam Travis, Holt, and even Panda.
  15. LOL! And it requires long arms.
  16. Bradley is kicking Tris Speaker's ass too.
  17. Pedroia and Ortiz are still the heart and soul of the Red Sox, imo. I think the rest of the guys look at how they do their business and how they conduct themselves. Both have plenty in the tank. I think Pedroia has a good 2-3 top years left, and Papi is definitely going out while he is still an elite offensive force.
  18. LOL! I didn't dig up the dead horse. Sk did that. I just gave him a few more whacks. I agree that it needs to be put to rest, but if others want to resurrect and revise his record, I will stab him a few more times. I have no love for FO types, especially last place finishers.
  19. The Mets radio announcers are excellent -- a very informative and entertaining listen. The Yankee radio broadcast is atrocious.
  20. I generally do not enjoy National Broadcasts, because I know more about the Red Sox than they do. I even find this to be true when teams other than the Red Sox are playing. In general, they need to do more homework.
  21. I agree 100% with your comments about Costas. He is so impressed with himself that he forgot that people are watching the event and not listening to him. The Yankees had a big teary goodbye for Kaat a few years ago. I thought he was retiring.
  22. Fans of Cherington would exonerate him for the last place finishes and the lack of quality pitching throughout the organization. Giving him a pass on big money acquisitions that need owner approval is one thing, but roster management throughout the organization is another. The GM alone is responsible for who gets promoted and for identifying which are trade chips, etc. He is responsible for maximizing the value of the assets in the organization. No one else can be blamed for that. IMO, the big $ acquisitions get approval at the highest level, but the recommendations for those moves usually do not. Certainly, Ben had input, and he either acquiesced or failed to persuade. Either way, he gets an F.
  23. Maybe Porcello can re-teach Buchholz how to throw the change up. It used to be Buch's out pitch.
