  1. We will never know the full extent of their exposure to Madoff, but they were hurt very badly. Prior to Madoff, they were very big spenders. After Madoff, they came dangerously close to losing the franchise. Selig probably would have forced their sale if he wasn't wading through the debacle of the Dodgers at the same time. It would not have been good for the game to force the sale of two teams in the 2 biggest markets. The Mets twice had to borrow money from MLB to meet payroll. I think they borrowed a total of $50 million. They were in distress. They still don't have any capital. I read that they will not dig out of their debt for 20-30 years. Fred Wilpon will be taking a dirt nap long before that.
  2. At the game mojo today! Sunny and warm right now. The weathermen had it wrong.
  3. I honestly don't even think one of those names gets it done. They are all closer to free agency and big $ than Syndegard, and pitching is just at such a premium.
  4. Yep, and DD had better have a contingency plan. Buch is always 1 pitch away from ending his season.
  5. Also, it is a long season. It is just my opinion that as of today, the Nats and Mets are better than the Cubs. It is also colored by my dislike of the Cubs. There is no allure there for me.
  6. And with all that hitting and good fielding, we do not have the best record in baseball and we can't overtake the O's. The hitting will not continue at this pace, so we need to improve our pitching to win the division.
  7. Syndegard is such a pipe dream that he is not even worth discussing. Any GM that calls the Mets and mentions his name will hear a click on the other end.
  8. The Cubs will not get past the Mets or the Nats in the post season. I am okay with Tito winning it all if the Red Sox don't win.
  9. I watched the game even though I was not on the game thread. Kelly looked great. He got a little out of sync that inning where he loaded the bases and got out of it with a great defensive play, a brain fart throwing home and a great defensive player by Hannigan making the put out. The only upsetting thing during the game was Bradley getting intentionally walked in his first plate appearance.
  10. They will not get 11 hits every game. They will have to win some 3-2 and 4-3 games.
  11. If he hits well his value should go up. I noticed that Allen Craig is playing again for Pawtucket. Maybe he gets a shot?
  12. Nice play by Swihart on Napoli's liner.
  13. Let all the excuses Clay begin -- just one bad inning, one bad pitch. Puhlease!
  14. Hand is part of the ball in basketball. I am not sure that there is a similar rule with the hand and bat.
  15. Big out getting Uribe to pop up with one out and a man on third base. Good job getting out of the inning.
  16. He needs to avoid bad innings, and he will be okay.
  17. Good Buchholz is a distant fond memory. He gives up too many multiple run bombs.
  18. Nice play by Pedroia to end the inning. Holy Cow, Bradley with a CF Home Run!
  19. You don't know what you are missing.
  20. My 5th round pick, Kyle Schwarber played 1 game before getting injured for the entire season.
  21. Is the manager covered under the mandatory concussion protocols? It might be useful down the road.
  22. Met fans were pissed when he was signed, because it looked like they weren't going to resign Cespedes.
  23. He lost his job to utility infielder and now a catcher gets the call ahead of him to play LF. Maybe he doesn't care. He escaped the hell hole of Cuba and has more money than he ever dreamed of. Maybe he is just enjoying a better life. He gets paid for the next 6 1/2 years.
  24. 6 inning Baldelli
