Reddick was a different kind of hitter than Swihart at that age. Reddick always had tremendous power, much more than Swihart. The ball jumped off Reddick's bat. Swihart makes good contact and uses more of the field, but he doesn't scald the ball like Reddick.

Conversely, it doesn't matter how good your stuff is if you can't execute those 6 pitches. Buch is past the developmental stage of teaching him to execute.

Keeping him in AAA guarantees that they will never be able to trade him and he will have no value to the organization.

Allen Craig is back playing for Pawtucket. Is there any chance that they give him a shot in LF? They are giving him a big paycheck. it would be a good way for him to reestablish some trade value.

True, and I would prefer to use Swihart to bring back pitching.

The whole "he only made a few bad pitches and got burned" argument is misleading and disingenuous. Schilling always said that the difference between success and failure each start was about half a dozen pitches that you have to execute. If you can't execute those pitches, you will probably fail no matter how "electric" your stuff was in that outing.

The whining comes through the press. Cafardo and others are already saying that the cost of acquiring pitching will be very high during the season because so many teams competing for the post season need pitching. How would the press know the cost unless they are speaking to someone in the organization? It is possible they are just talking out of their asses. If so, they shouldn't be press members, they should be posting here. I think it is more likely that they are hearing these things from their sources. I am reading between the lines. The Boston press has a tendency to be a proxy for the FO. Edit: Plus, the whining happens every year. It is nothing new. Every FO puke makes the excuse when they can't help the team.

I think we have enough chips to avoid including one of them. We are not going to get Syndegard. That is out of thequestion even if you included one of those guys. But quality pitching imo could be acquired without moving one of those 3. They need to get Swihart back in the minors to catch. I think his value goes down playing LF. He just doesn't hit enough to be a top OF prospect. Get him to Pawtucket and let him catch everyday. He would be a key chip in acquiring a starter. I am baffled by his position change unless they think he has a low ceiling as a defensive catcher.

I would prefer that they build their rotation in the off season than to try to build it during the season. The cost is always higher during the season. The whining is already finding its way into the press about the cost of acquiring pitching at the trading deadline. They can't have it both ways. They don't fill out the rotation with quality during the off season, but tell us that they can address any holes during the season and then they feign surprise about the cost of addressing the pitching issue during the season. They need to take that BS elsewhere. I am not buying it. That type of BS is why I generally have a low opinion of all FO personnel.

Wins is obviously not a great stat because it depends on the offense producing for the pitcher, but if a pitcher is a leader in Wins and has a good ERA, he is probably a good pitcher. When evaluating a pitcher, there is no single stat that is definitive. If I look at IP, ERA, WHIP, at k/9, that is enough for me to gauge the quality of a pitcher. Quality Starts is useless to me.

Fans are having a blast watching Betts, Bogaerts and Bradley. No one wants to see them get traded. That guy will have to argue with himself about trading them.

I think it was Lou Merloni who said that a Quality Start meant that you just had to suck a little.

Citifield is a good place to watch a game. Let me know which game you will be going to see. I go to several games at CitiField.

I rarely miss a Red Sox game. If I can't see it live, I DVR it and watch it. I watch large portions of many other games, more Mets games than other teams.

LOL!!! I did say that it was my opinion and I did say that it was colored by my dislike of the Cubs, but i would be happy to make a sig bet with you if they face the Mets or the Nats in the post season.

Not a bad pick, but Bogaerts is right there with Betts. He will put up over 200 hits this season and he could win the batting title
