  1. I think that you are missing my point. I am not arguing that Shields has been pitching better than Porcello at this point of the season. My point is that Porcello is getting a lot of positive reviews of his performance and Shield has been doing poorly and getting criticism for it, but the difference is just not that big. Unless father time is claiming Shields, regression should reverse any numerical advantage that Porcello is enjoying. IMO, they are both crap so far this season.
  2. Shields might be hitting the end of the road. He is up there in age. He should hit the end of the road before Porcello. That being said, until fairly recently Shield has been the better pitcher. Comerica Park is a pretty pitcher friendly environment, and Shields pitched a lot of years in Tampa which wasn't kind to pitchers. Shields trajectory may be pointing sharply down at this point. We will see, because his new ballpark is a bit of a launching pad. Up till now, I would still pick Shields to hand the ball or Porcello. Just my opinion.
  3. Oh, I didn't remember anyone else going public about it. Their baserunning was glaringly stupid. Head shaking stuff. Omar caught some heat for commenting on it. They tried to make him look disloyal, but that was just BS. Vizquel's baseball IQ is off the charts compared to Farrell's. Vizquel was a great player in every facet of the game.
  4. Not quite sure what you are saying about Vizquel.
  5. 4.28 ERA to 4.04 ERA-- we are not talking about different tier pitchers. LOL!! I didn't say that Porcello hasn't done better to this point, but you are the one being ridiculous if you think Porcello is at a different level. They have 60-70 inning under their belt -- regression to their norms will take care of any superior results that Porcello is currently enjoying.
  6. If Porcello and Shields regress to their norms as the stat people like to say, Shields should have the better numbers this season.
  7. For as bad as people are saying that Shields has been, his performance has been pretty much in line with Porcello who has been drawing rave reviews. The difference is not as big as you are making it out to be.
  8. Right, overall ERA was 3.73. That is not close to 4.
  9. As bad as Shields has been this season, he has been about the same as Porcello, but with less long balls.
  10. I would imagine that it would be a 15 day DL. It has been reported that he had a setback, where he felt a pull in a BP session.
  11. Your offense has to be a big powerhouse to get to the playoffs with an ERA over 4.
  12. Argue with Omar Vizquel. He was on a Farrell team in Toronto and he made an issue of it in the press, but what would he know without the numbers. I'll rely on the opinion of a 20 year MLB SS and perennial All Star if it conflicts with some new-fangled base running metric, especially since he was on the team.
  13. He had a good stretch or 2 last year too. Then he would blow up-- right around the time I would pick him up for my fantasy team.
  14. Lackey's career ERA against the Red Sox is 5.25, and I would rather hand him the ball than Porcello.
  15. If he played for the Red Sox, he wouldn't have to face them. Lackey i think also had some terrible Fenway #'s before joining the Red Sox.
  16. Sure he is in decline. I never said that he wasn't, but he did always give up a lot of Home Runs even in his bet season. And last year, he was still better than Porcello, imo.
  17. Shields always gave up a lot of Home Runs, but was still very successful. Porcello is supposed to be a sinker ball pitcher. His Home Run rate spike is a new development, and he has not been successful with his new approach.
  18. He was much better than Porcello last season. You don't have to go back 3 years. This year Shield has had some problems, but if I had to hand someone the ball, I would rely on Shields track record and hand it to him instead of Porcello, who should be worshiping at the altar of of BC.
  19. Shields has had a much better career than Porcello, and I would still rather hand the ball to him than Porcello.
  20. Even the 1977-78 teams hit slumps with 3 Hall of Famers in the lineup as well as Lynn, Evans, Boomer.
  21. I just realized that Michael Fulmer of the Tigers was acquired from the Mets for 2 months of Cespedes. Fulmer is looking like an ace in the making and he is playing for the league minimum and is under team control. For a full year of Cespedes, we got Porcello for one year and then threw an $82 million extension at him. Yet, people want me to believe that BC got the best return that he could for Cespedes, Lester and Lackey. Puhlease, BC was a fool.
