  1. If we had any degree of competence in the final 2 rotation spots, we would be blowing the doors of the division. The offense in the first half has been phenomenal. The top 4 batters in our lineup are hitting over .300 -- .304, .304. .329 and .332. I think it would be reasonable to expect that these numbers will fall back a little bit, and if they do people will jump to blame them -- the strongest part of the team. The problems with the team are obvious. The only question is whether DD can fix it. Yet people will look to blame our best pitcher, a 2 week batting slump or a couple of blown saves from our All Star closer. Ridiculous.
  2. He wasn't the problem in the first half of the season even though he didn't pitch like he usually does. As I have said before, even UN's one-eyed cat can see see that we have no #4 or 5.
  3. He slammed the door on the Mets twice this weekend. His velocity has been down for years. He is still at 92-93. People don't give him the credit for knowing how to pitch. Everyone just thinks he is a thrower. He is not. He hasn't been for a long time.
  4. But he stinks. He is the reason why we are not in first place ... no? Even if you lose the 3.50 bet, the guy is still a #1 stud and he will not be part of the problem if this team fails.
  5. Oh Boy RBI worms all over the place!!!
  6. Price is the problem!!!
  7. Price is a huge problem. Something has to be done about him.
  8. Or we would have signed someone else. If you want to go down the where we would be without Porcello, we could go down the road of how much better off they would be if they had saved money on Castillo, Sandoval and Craig and used it to keep Lester and Lackey.
  9. And despite my criticism of the contract, I wish we had a couple of more guys pitching as well as Porcello.
  10. It wasn't about guessing. It was about seeing the product before you commit big bucks -- just sound business. Ben and Theo are not good businessmen imo. Neither could run a candy store in Brooklyn. They would be out of business in 6 months.
  11. I said on day one looking forward that there was no need to rush into that deal until we saw how his stuff played at Fenway. I was right about that.
  12. I am sick of it.
  13. But he didn't. They didn't have to wait long to see that he was dogshit last year. April proved that. If he had this year's April last year, his value was not going to skyrocket $20 million. Ben never knew how to negotiate. He and Theo way overpaid whenever they made acquisitions.
  14. But if they had waited to sign him, they probably save at least $20 million on that contract.
  15. I think that there would be more time saved each game by cutting out all the holdups waiting for the teams decision based on its internal video feed and any challenges based on the manager's naked eye would be more clear cut and thus decided more quickly in NY.
  16. Cubbies lose again.
  17. I am loving Porcello. He is getting it done.
  18. Worms everywhere.
  19. How do you get there? The manager should have 5 -10 seconds to determine whether to challenge. If they can get electronic video help in that time, good for them, but I don't think they can. They would have to rely more on their eyes. Other than that the rules would be the same -- one challenge per team. How would that slow up things? It would also do away with all these challenges where they are splitting hairs on tag plays.
  20. Pedroia with another key hit to spark the offense. MVP...thoughts? Porcello has been as solid as I could have hoped. I know that wins are not the best way to judge a pitcher, but they do mean something for me, and Porcello is doing a good job in that regard.
  21. I am sick of replay. Managers should not be able to stall until their replay people give them a thumbs up, thumbs down. If the call on the field is going to be challenged, it should only be in cases where the manager with his naked eye sees it differently. This has become just another delay of the game. There are already too many delays. If the manager doesn't trust his own eyes, screw it, the call should stand.
  22. I am a fan. I don't work for the FO, but if they brought him up, I would be interested in seeing him. I also would expect the FO to do its job and not bring him up until he was ready so he didn't get all screwed up. But then again after the unethical, borderline criminal activity engaged in by the FO in the DR, I guess you can't count on them to do the right thing.
  23. The acquisition of Ziegler is going to be very important. DD got it done before the injury to Kimbrel had been announced. That might have driven up the price.
  24. I think Bill Mueller had a meniscus procedure when we had him and missed only 4 weeks.
  25. DL for Kimbrel -- meniscus tear. I got the alert on my phone, but can't find it now to get a source.
