    I would only worry about keeping the highest quality scouts. As to the rest of FO personnel, Jos A. Bank is always running BOGO sales on suits (2 for the price of 1). There is no shortage of mediocre business types, and they are all pretty much mediocre.

    2014 was not the result of having stripped the farm system without concern for the future, nor was 2015. Those years were just about very poor roster construction.

    To accuse a Red Sox fan of 50 years who didn't see a Championship until age 45 of engaging in instant gratification is just preposterous. Let's just say that DD will have a challenge to restock the farm, but we don't know how these moves will affect the future and whether the future is on a downward trajectory, there is no certainty in that regard, because we don't know what DD will do to restock the farm. There is a challenge for him in this regard, but he has time. What we do know for certain is that the 2017 team is stocked with talent which we will be able to enjoy in about 3 months. That is not instant gratification. It is just the present.

    That does not represent short sightedness nor a culture of instant gratification. I didn't say that there was no understanding on my part that the farm system has been weakened or that future teams could be weakened. I just don't let those worries ruin my enjoyment of the present especially when the present is so bright, and I have no control over any of it.

    I didn't say the words you were putting in my mouth about short-sightedness and a culture of instant gratification. I said the following: In other words, when I am having a lot of fun at a party, I am not worrying about the work involved in the cleanup. But I still have to clean up. So I am not shortsighted, nor is their a culture of instant gratification. I have been a fan for 50 years. The good times don't come that often, so I don't think about the crash afterward, because there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it and your worrying won't do any good either.

    You have attributed to me a mentality to which I never said that I ascribed. In other words, you are putting words in my mouth. I don't let worries about the future ruin enjoyment of a present with very bright possibilities.

    The longer that EE remains unsigned the greater I think are the chances of DD signing him, and that would be fantastic.
