  1. An improvement in pitching definitely addressed the issue in part, maybe more maybe less, but what was done to address the remaining deficit was inadequate imo.
  2. The bottom 4 in our lineup are horrible, maybe the bottom 5.
  3. LOL! My agreeing with you would be bad for your image -- your self image.
  4. Spud can turn a phrase with the best of them.
  5. I was just responding to what I assumed was sarcasm on your part and sarcasm with which I agree.
  6. I am glad that you have clarified that the current coaching staff has no responsibility for this.
  7. He didn't ask me.
  8. That they suck is your opinion. That Sale was the last piece. Of the puzzle is DD's opinion. I think you are both wrong.
  9. And I agree that there have been other problems. We had a season last year where the offense hit on almost all cylinders. If Ortiz had stayed, there was likely to be some regression, but his leaving has really exacerbated the downturn. It is DD's job to anticipate this. I did.
  10. We have all heard the saying that hitting is contagious. Statheads probably have studies disproving it, but imo there is a cascading effect of adding or subtracting a big bat to a lineup. A big hitter in our lineup would make pitchers work harder and approach the rest of the lineup differently. A pitcher has only so many high caliber bullets to deliver. A big hitter would waste a lot of those on a pitches.
  11. And let's not make this argument a referendum on whether Napoli is through, because on my list of 4, he was my 4th choice. The list might be longer than 4. I just threw them out off the top of my head. I stand by larger point -- that DD flubbed by not addressing the gaping hole left by Big Papi. On the positive side of the ledger for DD, he is not Ben who would have brought us more last place finishes.
  12. A lot of people thought he was through when we traded him and then he had his best career year last season.
  13. Some have been distracted by print journalists.
  14. I meant after June, but you are right that he has had a lot of PA in the last 2 seasons. He has been an everyday player through June and then due to a fall off in his performance he starts to sit periodically. Check his career splits. There is a noticeable fall off in the second half and his career numbers in July are very bad. Edit: If we are going to roll him out there every game for the rest of the season, there will be a lot more crying about lack of run production.
  15. Check the game logs. Come June each year he is not an every day player. Don't ever pick him up for your fantasy teams. he doesn't get regular ABs
  16. Take it up with SoxHop. Come June each year he is not an every day player. Don't ever pick him up for your fantasy teams. he doesn't get regular ABs
  17. And sometimes the starter has to take one for the team, but it is frustrating to watch, and it is amusing that 7 seems to be the magic number.
  18. I would agree that he was the best in my lifetime. He was also my favorite. He doesn't get a free pass from second guessing or criticism. No one does. As far as being smarter than someone, it has nothing to do with how many years one has watched baseball
  19. That is because of his shoulder issues. It wasn't the intent going into the season. And he had better be able to play 1B soon, because Moreland has a history of slumping and getting benched. SoxHop confirmed that has been the script when he was in Texas.
  20. SSS, and he has a career OPS of .824. and .349 OBP versus .755 and .317 for Moreland
  21. I get that the starting pitching has been improved. I have never said otherwise. IMO, the team is unbalanced and DD didn't adequately address the needs of the offense because imo he didn't want a dedicated DH. If he traded our top prospect to get Sale, because he viewed Sale as the final piece of the puzzle, he was wrong. There was huge missing piece on the offense. If you are going to go for it all now, you need to do a better job to fill the holes.
  22. The 7 run rule was an unwritten Francona rule. I pointed it out and coined the phrase and it was confirmed time and again. I had only been watching baseball for 40 years when we got Francona. As far as second guessing Francona or any manager, it doesn't take a lot high voltage brain activity to realize that some of what they do is not very smart.
  23. We don't. I love hate speech especially about baseball.
  24. SSS all. And $5.5 million would have been saved on Moreland. Were we only $7 1/2 million from the luxury tax? Napoli is getting $6 million.
