  1. It is a steep wager.
  2. If he isn't already using a brace, theyshould fit him with a knee brace pronto.
  3. He could never beat the dog out of B.J. Upton. He never played hard for him. That is on B.J. not Maddon. Longo was going to choke him in the dugout one time. I don't put much stock in the "players' manager" thing.
  4. I like that "pulled victory from the grasp of stupidity." I will give you credit for it when I use it.
  5. I think he is overrated and he is annoying because he obviously believes his own press clippings.
  6. And I think they are all night games.
  7. if Kelly is throwing strikes, I would try to get 2 innings out of him in each outing.
  8. I don't see Moose signing ahead of going to free agency. If it happened, it would solve our 3B problem for a few years, but I don't see it happening.
  9. i didn't know that midnight meals were common there. Full meals or just snacks?
  10. Much better. Kendrick is a known bum who is past a very meh prime.
  11. You should look up iortiz while you are there. I am not sure if he still lives there.
  12. This signing was a zero.
  13. Again, I agree. They need to swap roles.
  14. Agreed. They all follow a script. It is the easy thing to do.
  15. I thought I heard that part of it was lasting effects from that really bad flu that went around the clubhouse early in the season.
  16. Howie Kendrick should be very cheap and he is an excellent professional hitter.
  17. It looks like a pattern to me.
  18. Farrell surprisingly completely outmanaged Matheny in that World Series. I have acknowledged that previously. His use of the pen in that post season was excellent. Maybe Francona learned from him, and Farrell re-learned it from Francona. He certainly forgot how to do it last year as he never did it with Kimbrel.
  19. They had a lot of talent. It is not like he took a bunch of journeymen to the playoffs. That is my only point. The Yankees fell apart that season as they changed managers, and the Red Sox played a big chunk of the stretch drive without Beckett who then got injured in the playoffs. It was a best case scenario for Maddon's young squad. He deserves credit for keeping that young group together and engaged. I think he helped them believe in themselves, but there was a lot of talent on that squad and his subsequent teams. After going to the WS, they developed a cockiness as a squad with Longo as the leader.
  20. He had Kimbrel last year, but never gave it a thought to use him in the 8th inning until he saw Francona's success last year. Managers are great at copycat-ing success being whether it be going to 1 inning dedicated closers, using shifts etc.
  21. Certainly they would not have been a favorite to go to the WS, but they were a very talented team. And they would not have gone to the WS if Beckett didn't get injured in the playoffs.
  22. I am going to lower my expectations of what he will contribute. I remember eagerly anticipating John Smoltz joining our staff and having setback after setback and then he was a complete failure.
  23. He does seem to have a good rapport with his teams. Also, the teams in TB that overperformed had some very good talent. Check out the rosters starting in 2008. They had a lot of talent. In 2006 and 2007, when they had no talent, his teams were miserable losing 101 games and 86 games.
  24. Didnt Smith have another setback?
  25. Francona also used Allen for more than one inning several times last post season and he flip flopped Allen and Miller at least once that I can recollect. Francona didn't do this with the Red Sox because he had startersthat could go deep into games in the post season, so he didn't need to do it very much. The 2016 Guardians had one reliable starter so he had to improvise.
