  1. I agree with you. After a ful season of watching Moreland, I don't see him as being at a much higher level than Hanley. He throws the ball much better, but fielding ground balls and throws ... there is little difference. Also, he pisses me off when he wanders so far off the base that he interferes with Pedroia's play and often is unsuccessful in getting the out at first for various reasons. It is very hard for a lumbering lefty like Moreland to turn his body and make the leading throw to the pitcher from that far toward 2nd base. Just GTF out of Pedroi's way and get your ass to the base to take the throw. He did that during ST, and I mentioned to Dewey that he shouldn't be wandering that far toward 2nd base... especially in the age of the shift where IF's are piled up on one side of the field.
  2. After 5 months of him working out of jams, I would have thought you would have developed a comfort level with him on the mound with men on base. He has been nothing short of extraordinary this season. You defend all sorts of bonehead plays, but Pomeranz worries you? Go figure. Your credibility is plummeting.
  3. Luckily that I was not eating or drinking when I read that or I would have choked and spit. LOL!!
  4. Must you always see blame being cast where none is being cast? read the posts. All I and CP said was that Moreland usually scoops that ball. No blame on him. It was a tough play, an players are not perfect. I was just not throwing Devers under the bus for the throw. He made a lot of plays last night and handled them flawlessly. The errant throw at the end was not overly concerning to me, because that ball usually gets picked. Keep in mind that when looking to defend against the unfair blame that you always perceive, there is no blame when we win. There is just analysis.
  5. What we have gotten from him between this year and last year for $3-4 million/ year has been worth it, even if Espinoza makes it to the majors in 2021.
  6. I thought about the late inning defensive replacement idea. Last night, I think he still had Marrero on the bench.
  7. I never thought there was any reason to regret the trade, because his ETA was so far out under even ideal circumstances and so much can go wrong in an extended period of time. Now, the trade looks like a one-sided coup.
  8. I'd prefer to go for a big bomber. I like the idea of J.D. Martinez. I have been watching a lot of Arizona's games the last couple of months. Goldy is a huge offensive force, but J.D. has scary power.
  9. We can use the spark to the lineup. It is great that the team has picked up for his absence and Pedroia's absence/slump with a winning streak. When they return and get back on track, we should put up runs more consistently.
  10. I thought the same thing. Moreland picks that ball more often than not -- maybe 8 times out of 10. It appeared to be a short hop not a mid hop that is harder to handle. And it seems to me that over the last 2-3 games that we are getting an inordinate number of plays at 3B. Maybe it just seems that way because I am a bit nervous about the kid's fielding. Last night, he got several plays and handled them all flawlessly except for the very minor miscommunication with Pom on a dribbler, but no one had a play on that.
  11. And an argument can be made that consistently good hitters don't exist. They all slump.
  12. He may be the best value in Baseball, and we got him for a kid with TJ surgery who will not get to MLB until 2020 or 2021 if ever.
  13. The problem in 2015 was the pitching. The mantra hear by me hear on TalkSox in discussions about the 2015 team was "It's the Pitching Stupid."
  14. But he can't hit either. I think his OPS is in the 500's
  15. Another Extra Inning win and Barnes didn't blow a 1 run lead!!! This team is a determined bunch of smurfs.
  16. They are available on every floor in every dorm building... right?
  17. You have to be kidding!!
  18. 1 run lead is not Barnes-proof.
  19. There were times that you were banned from making Game Threads.
  20. Pedroia still slumping.
  21. or the little hit.
  22. Todd Walker may be the best of the fill-ins for Remy.
  23. Oddly, Yankee fans are much better losers than winners. The opposite of us Sox fans.
